Up a winding private driveway, flanked by maple trees lies this beautiful quiet and secluded mountainside post-and-beam home. Surrounded by 30 acres of forest, with views through the trees, the house sits high above the valley floor. The trees, birds and wildlife serenade you by day, while the quiet solitude lulls you to sleep at night. Large deck, living room and separate family room, plus private office with computer. Extensive private hiking/snowshoeing trails from just outside the back yard. All amenities, casually but tastefully furnished. Also includes the fastest internet in the US - with gigabit fiber delivering amazingly fast internet to all parts of the house!
More Details: The house is located about 1/3 of the way up and into a 30 acre property, which means you are deep in the woods with no one else around. The land slopes up reasonably steeply to where the house is, and then flattens out above it. You could walk out of the house, and hike for 10 miles without seeing another person or house (I've done this).
The house itself is a post and beam three level house. The first level has two bedrooms, laundry room, and a playroom that includes a couch, TV and DVD player, and a video game player as well.
We also have the FASTEST INTERNET in the US here. We have gigabit internet, delivered via an active fiber optic cable from VTEL. Cellphone service is spotty, but the internet is the best you can get!
The playroom opens up and out onto the hillside, and the driveway as it snakes down to the town road. A slate patio sits outside, along with a grassy hillside.
The second level has a bathroom with shower, an office (where the crib is). The rest of the second floor is wide open, the living room soars up 2 stories, the dining area is encased in glass above and on 2 sides, and the open kitchen is well equipped.
In the living room are a large couch, a second smaller couch, a 24' TV, and a fireplace.
On the second floor, a large deck wraps around the house. The deck overlooks the hills, the trees, and really makes you feel like you are living in a tree house. A table and chairs are there for outdoor dining, along with two other chairs and a gas weber grill.
On the third level - a master bedroom with king size bed, a full bathroom with tub, and another bedroom with a loft bed - queen size, and underneath a smaller couch, and room for either an inflatable bed, or the crib.
The house itself is all built in wood. Huge hand-hewn pine timbers are exposed in post and beam style. The floors are wide pine planks, while the walls and ceiling/sloping roof is painted white sheetrock.
Wildlife abounds. Birds chirp and flit about. Owls hoot and hunt at night. Turkey, deer, chipmunks and many other animals are all around. A nice hiking trail loops around from outside the back door.
Testimonials: Jim, thanks for a wonderful time in Vermont. The house was lovely. The snow was beautiful. Peace and solitude. .............and those alpacas were the best (there is a one week old baby now too!)

Sue and I just spent 5 wonderful, cool and relaxing weeks in this beautiful house. We were surrounded by woods and greeted daily by the songs of birds.
The house felt like home and our two sons could visit with their families and find spacious bedrooms - even toys for the grandchildren. Our young grandchildren loved the deck because they were able to go in and out of the house at will and play without getting into trouble or falling. Our sons want us to do this again next year.
I bought this land originally to camp on, but over time we decided to build a house. Then as soon as we finished it, the company I was working for moved us to California. So it was either sell or rent. We decided to rent! So we live in the San Francisco bay area, but have a house in Vermont! You can read more about me here - http://louderback.com/about/
Jim Louderback purchased this house in 1997
Vermont is amazing, and this area is some of the last truly wild southern vermont. Close to great food, hiking, and even not so far away from an airport. It's got everything.
We have a core group of renters that have been coming up for 15 years or more, so the house isn't always available. But when it is you should definitely come up!
It's got its very own hiking trails, is far away from neighbors and there's lots of wildlife. It's like living in a treehouse!
Jim- The house was great! Perfect location and size for our family. Thanks again-Linda
My wife and I have been coming to the Lilly Hill House in Pawlet since 2003. We spend all of August and leave the week-end after Labor Day. It is large enough to accommodate all our family when they visit from NH and CT. When you are in the midst of a 30 acre wood, you get quiet and peace. During the day hummingbirds visit the feeding stations on the deck and at night you hear the sometimes unworldly call of the Barred Owl.
We absolutely love this place.
We stayed during winter recess through New Year 2015-2016 in this beautiful home. It was clean, well provided for, and the perfect location for skiing and relaxation. The owners were extremely attentive and had the caretaker in touch with us to ensure our comfort.
Thank you for a fantastic family holiday break!
Pictures cannot do this property justice. It is beautiful, well maintained, clean and comfortable. The owner was a delight to work with. We hosted family here for our son's wedding. The wedding was only 10 mins away at The Barn. We look forward to returning to this wonderful property in the future!
We (myself, my Husband, and two daughers - ages 3 & 5) stayed in this lovely home for the week of Thanksgiving 2009. It was just perfect. We hiked everyday (up the hill and to locations close by), read, had fires, took naps, cooked, watched movies, etc. The house has a great layout and is very well kept. A few minute ride to The Barn (restaurant) with very good food (and inexpensive)! A 20 minute drive to Manchester and lots of shopping. This house had everything we needed and was close to many excursions. Our daughters loved the bunk bed! We look forward to coming back for future visits! Beautiful house surrounded by lovely property and country!
Jim- The house was great! Perfect location and size for our family.
Steve and I have been back home for a short while and settled into our old
routines and thought we would send you a quick note to thank you for the
opportunity to stay at your Vermont home.
We can't tell you enough how enjoyed our stay there.
We have been traveling to Vermont for over 12-Years. We never came home
before more relaxed and enjoying the trip as much as we did this time.
You have a very nice home and location!
We just can't wait until October!!
Have a great Summer.
Diane and Steve Kingston
Beautiful post and beam house sits high above the valley floor. The expansive porch and windows make it seem like you're in a tree fort in the summer, and on top of the world in the winter. Then step out of the front door and onto your very own private hiking/snowshoe trail that snakes through our 30 wooded acres. In the middle of rural southern Vermont, but close to great restaurants, outlet shopping and even Lake George. 35 minutes to Bromley, Killington and Stratton; 20 minutes to Manchester. 10 minutes to Lake St. Catherine and the shops and restaurants of historic Dorset. A perfect place for family and friends to get away and enjoy beautiful Vermont!
