Historic Tidewater Home with Gulf View

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

This unique renovated 1924 home was built by the Governor of Alabama as his summer residence. This historic 3400 square foot home maintains many of the original features that give the house its character. Walk out the double living room doors onto the large 12x40-foot pecky cypress screened porch. Relax and listen to the surf roll in while enjoying the view.

All rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished. There are two living rooms on the first floor, one for watching TV and one for conversation/reading. Using the etched glass and teak doors you can close off the upstairs, making the house cozy enough for two or large enough for the whole family.

This protected property is surrounded by trees and a wildlife preserve rich in rare plants. Migrating birds and butterflies pass through the area. Shore birds and song birds make an interesting combination. With an acre of land and surrounding undeveloped lots, there is a true feeling of privacy that many beach homes lack. Make yourself at home, have a good time and relax are the rules of the house. This affordable house is a paradise for all.

The Perfect House

  • 5 of 5

My family spent a wonderful week here this summer. After seven years of family beach trips, we finally found the house with the perfect set up for all of us! This wonderful old home has plenty of space for everyone to spread out, including a massive front porch. The little ones got a kick out of the two claw foot tubs and catching crabs in Money Bayou. Absolutely everything you need is in place - and even things you didn't realize you'd need! Definitely spend the extra money to rent the golf cart - it was a lifesaver.

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

The comfort, hospitality of the owner, and consideration for renter are unmatchable. I feel more at home at this rental than I do at my own home, and I LOVE my home.

I can not think of one thing that has been overlooked for the comfort of guests at this property.

I will return as often as possible.

Access to the beach couldn't be easier, beach is quiet and beautiful!

I was looking for a relaxing, stress free beach experience and I got that and more!

Perfection, Peace, Serenity

  • 5 of 5

There are many things to do here but this is also the perfect place to do nothing but relax. Every detail is taken care of but the owner operator who truly cares about your needs! I have never been anywhere (no matter how expensive) where there has been such genuine concern for my needs.

This is a treasure for seekers of peace and serenity, I have been coming for years and God willing, will continue to do so.

One Word! PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed so much being in this rental. Absolutely perfect with the front porch and the morning walks on the beach. I feel like we found a treasure among all treasures to find an affordable, clean, and wonderful destination. Thank you Linda for being such a great hostess and sharing your beach home with us!

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at The Front Porch last week with our dog, Pete, to celebrate him after he was diagnosed with bone cancer a year ago. This house is not to be missed. It is filled with character, lovely details in the décor and is definitely a stand-out from all the other houses nearby. Linda was beyond gracious and a real pleasure to work with. We have been looking for a house we can count on for our visits to Indian Pass each year, and we have found it! Thank you, Linda! We are coming back.

A Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We are from Tallahassee, FL and stayed here with my Brother-in-law and his family who came from Iowa. We have 4 girls between us, ages 11, 13, 14 and 15. Since they live in Iowa they don't get a lot of beach time, so we try to get together annually in beach rentals.

This house far exceeded our expectations and was much more charming and homey than any place we have stayed in before. The house is so well appointed--the owner has truly thought of *everything* her guests may need or want. It was nice to not have to pack beach gear and paper plates *just in case* there were not enough for everyone -- there were. There are little touches throughout the house that make you feel like a guest in someone's home and not a "renter". The house is tastefully decorated in a way that just oozes calm and relaxation. The fact that it is a historical home just makes it that much more interesting!

There are homes across the street but far enough away that is there were guests there we did not see them. There are homes to the right and left but they are not visible from this house due to the wooded buffer between. All kinds of florida wild life can be seen and heard--we enjoyed the call of a Chuck Will's Widow and Owls at night, and saw hummingbirds and mocking birds daily. The girls had a good time trying to figure out what night birds they were hearing.

We adults stayed on the main level and all 4 girls stayed upstairs in their own little hang out. Plenty of board games, video games and movies and CDs--they were never bored while we were inside. We loved family UNO and Skip Bo tournaments.

Everthing is here to cook just about anything, We cooked in a few nights and dined out. There is the dining room but also space on the porch for outdoor dining. The front porch rockers is where we spent most mornings chatting and waiting for the girls to finally wake up (giggling all night in their hide-away for sure).

The beach is vast, uncrowded with soft white sand. We spent many hours there this week and collected shells, cruised in the cart, splashed in the water, and soaked up the sun (a little too much for some--OOOPS!).

Fort those that enjoy fishing/boating, you will be very happy here. There are also horseback rides on the beach, kayaking, jet ski rentals, boat tours--you could never do it all!

We will definitely be back!

Thank you Linda for a truly wonderful stay.
