Bedrooms: 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 5, Beds for 4-5
- The second bedroom has a twin bed with a trundle under. Both have real mattresses. There is a 3rd room upstairs which is now the TV/Family room, with a twin Murphy Bed that pulls out of the closet. We don't recommend using this as a third bedroom, since this is the TV room, but it can be used for a visitor/overflow as you wish. It does have a real mattress....moreless

Castine, Maine is one of the most historic and well preserved coastal villages on the entire US East Coast, originally settled in the 1600's.
The Castine area is host to theater, summer concerts at Kneisel Hall (30 min. away), quality shops, art galleries, antiques, Maine Maritime Academy and fine restaurants. Centrally located between Camden and Bar Harbor (1-1/4 hr. to each), the town offers a quiet and convenient place to stay.
In Castine, we have one of the oldest nine hole golf courses in the country, a tennis club (clay courts), yacht club, Dyce Head Lighthouse and many historic walking trails. Working fishing villages, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Camden, and Isle au Haut are all lovely day trips accessible from the town.
The local waters are favorite cruising spots for yachts and the Maine windjammer fleet. The area offers several excursion boats, hiking, and sea kayaking. There is a rocky beach just across the road, or 1/2 mile away is a sandy public beach.
Other Activities: Maine Maritime Academy pool and fitness rooms nearby, open on limited basis, with user fee.
Golf: The Castine Golf Course is a challenging and beautifully maintained 9-hole par 35 course. Scottish golf course designer, Willie Park Jr. laid out the current nine holes in 1921, which offers stunning views of Castine Harbor and Blue Hill.
Considered 'one of the greatest golf architects of all time;' Park said the Castine course was one of his best. Park's design presets nine holes on Windmill Hill across from the Revolutionary War era Fort George and overlooking Castine Harbor and Blue Hill in the distance. Not only was Willie a deft putter, but he was the man to beat in golf club and course design.
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: My wife and I both are professors at the Maine Maritime Academy here in Castine. I am a merchant mariner and professional sailor, my wife is an Oceanographer.
Why the Owner Chose Castine, ME, USA:
This is not a rental property. It is our home. We are fortunate to have a camp on an old piece of family property nearby where I summered as a child. We spend the summers there and make our home available to you.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We bought this house after renting in town for 7 years. When it became available we knew it was the perfect home, because it is in sight of the harbor, near the middle of the village, yet its location inside a corner of two streets makes it incredibly private. Sitting in the garden in summer, you can't actually see any of your neighbors or either street, as they are all hidden behind various hedges.
