About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This Tahoe Donner vacation Home is two stories, 1950 square feet, with three bedrooms, two and a half baths. Our home is on a quiet street within walking distance of the Tahoe Donner Ski Hill parking lot and shuttle and has a large, flat yard surrounded by trees that makes for excellent snow play in the winter and volleyball or croquet in the summer.

The home is very clean, well-maintained and decorated with newer furnishings, art and antiques; yet it is child safe. Those who cook will enjoy the large, well-equipped kitchen and adjoining dining area that seats ten. The covered deck off the dining room is a great place to leisurely enjoy the outdoors during the spring, summer and fall or stay dry during the winter. The living room comes equipped with a stereo, curved screen TV, DVD/CD player (and videos) and board games. There is a woodburning stove with an ample firewood supply.

The home sleeps up to eight. The large Master Suite has a king-size bed, comfortable recliner, flat screen television/DVD, jacuzzi bath, and private balcony. The second bedroom has a single/double bunkbed (and views of the ski hill!) The third bedroom is furnished with a queen-size bed. There is an attached two-car garage with kitchen access and a mudroom at the front entrance. Pets are NOT allowed, No Smoking please.

During the winter you are only a short drive from Tahoe Donner's terrific cross county skiing. North Lake Tahoe ski resorts (incl Northstar and Squaw Valley) are all within a 20-minute drive.

In the summer enjoy access to Tahoe Donner member facilities including the TD Golf Course, Tennis Center, Equestrian Center, Donner Lake private beach and marina, and Trout Creek Recreation Center and pools. See link below for more information on Tahoe Donner activities, amentities, and access fees.

Tahoe Donner is about 10 minutes from the mountain town of Truckee, which offers all major conveniences plus great restaurants and shops.

Really comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We have had the pleasure of staying in this house, one week each of the past couple of years, and find it really comfortable. It's laid out well, the heating system works well (and quietly, compared to other rentals we have had), the owners are very responsive, and frankly we just get to relax and enjoy our time. Our boys have a great time playing in the back yard and have made good use of the snow equipment. We come back even though we have never used the third bedroom. Our older kid read this review just now and said, "I love this house!" 'nough said.

Great comfortable place for families with kids!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed here twice now, and it's one of our favorite places to stay. The easy access without significant stairs, a large kitchen and dining area, and a large master bedroom are great! The flat yard and patio are also great for outdoor play and relaxing.

Perfect for two families with kids

  • 5 of 5

This was my second stay at Kathie and Mark's house this year. The first was in Feb 2017 and second was in July 2017 so I've had the opportunity to experience the house in both winter and summer, and each visit has been delightful.

The house layout is ideal with all 3 bedrooms upstairs, so in the evening after the kids were in bed the adults could relax in the living room downstairs and not worry about noise from our conversation traveling to an adjacent room. The beds are very comfortable and the temperature in the house was warm enough in the winter with the wood stove going and cool enough in the summer. Opening the porch doors in my recent visit allowed for a nice breeze in the house after the sun went down. There were more than enough pillows and blankets should you need extras.

The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, plates, cups and mugs as well as the standard appliances such as a coffee maker and 4 slice toaster. The kitchen is very spacious and allows for everyone to participate in meal prep or to just sit on the bar stools to chat with those in the kitchen. Having an 8 seat dining table was great for family mealtime without feeling crowded.

The driveway is flat, which was key in the winter months and the garage allowed for 2 cars to park inside. They have even provided a garage door opener for our use - so convenient! The two Tahoe Donner guest passes they provide has allowed us lift pass discounts for skiing in the winter and access to the TD pools in the summer (with a use fee).

Kathie and Mark have been very responsive for any questions I've had. I highly recommend their house for your next Tahoe trip!

Great house, location, amenities. Several upgrades since last season. Keeps getting nicer every year

  • 5 of 5

This is my 6th season staying at Kathie and Mark's property in Tahoe Donner. That should speak for itself.

The house is in a perfect location on a lovely quiet street close to Tahoe Donner ski lodge. That's where my daughter first learned to ski. Now we go to Boreal, but still stay at their house because it's such a comfortable place to stay the week. It's only 5 minutes drive to downtown Truckee; close to Safeway, stores and restaurants.

In addition to the amenities you'd expect in a rental house (appliances, wifi, cable, laundry, kitchen supplies...), they've upgraded the TV to an amazing large, HD, curved screen in the living which is next to wood burning stove/fireplace. So the evenings are relaxing watching Netflix, TV or a DVD with our microwave popcorn.

The 2-car garage is stocked with snow equipment which we used alot this year - shovels, sleighs, snowboard and snowball makers. There's also a supply of firewood and kindling.

If that's not enough, Kathie and Mark are great hosts. Extremely responsive and overall nice people.

I can't wait to go back again!

Cozy, comfortable, and well appointed

  • 5 of 5

This turned out to be one of our favorite places to stay in the Sierras. The home lived up to our expectations and was cozy, comfortable and well appointed. We were concerned at first that we wouldn't have enough snow but as it turned out we had too much...31" in 36 hours. The beds are very comfortable, the master suite was spacious and warm. We loved to cook and the kitchen had everything one could wish for and the large open space was a great gathering place. Mark and Kathie were very responsive and helpful. House instructions were clear and detailed. There was a new Smart, curved screen TV with a good stereo and lots of choices for entertainment. If I have one small recommendation it would be to have more information on the TV operation. We hope to return in the not too distant future. Many thanks to our hosts.

cozy snowy retreat

  • 4 of 5

We were a group of 7, toddler to grandparents, who endured an awful drive to Tahoe Donner, due to I-80 closures and detours, which took twice the usual time. So our initial impression was made in cranky, late night moods, trying to shovel our way in - but the rest of the time made up for that entrance. Very comfy beds, plenty of towels and blankets and pillows. Amply stocked kitchen with plates, glasses, mugs, all the pots and pans we needed. Well-working toaster and coffee maker, along with a coffee grinder. Responsive hosts. It is located perfectly to take advantage of the cross-country skiing we wanted (and some in the group easily drove off to Northstar for downhill skiing). If you want the latest in home furnishings or remodeled kitchen or baths, this is not the place for you - but if you want to feel at ease, in a place where its evident that many families have enjoyed holiday times together, then this is for you.

About The Owner

We reside in the SF Bay Area (Sonoma County). Mark is in the local wine business and Kathie works for a large Biotech firm. We've owned and enjoyed our Tahoe Donner property for several years and have successfully rented it over this time as well.

We made a decision some time ago that we don't expect rental income to cover the costs and therefore don't keep it rented all the time. We'd prefer to keep wear and tear to a minimum and therefore tend to shy away from very large groups, last minute discounts, etc. We always check to ensure our rates remain reasonable and amenities are competitive.

The Owner purchased this house in 2000

Why The Owner chose Truckee

We had stayed in various rentals around Tahoe Donner for many years. We love the area and wanted a home that would provide family time and memories. A place that was enjoyable in winter AND summer.

We wanted a home that was clean, comfortable, and not full of second hand furnishings. Lots of snow (house is at 6700' elevation), but without the wind of the homes on the hills or steep, winding, icy driveways.

Not only has this house has fit the bill for us in the above ways, we love the layout. Nice sized bedrooms, open kitchen to the large dining table, easy garage access, great covered deck off the back to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine.

An additional bonus is the Tahoe Donner location. Close to Truckee, Lake Tahoe and the big resorts, yet located off the 1st exit coming into Truckee. Saves us 30 minutes both in and out (and that's without weekend traffic!!) On a Friday night or Sunday afternoon this is a non-trivial benefit..

What makes this house unique

We have several favorite Tahoe Donner amenities. During the winter, the local ski and sled hills are fun and convenient.

In the summer, we enjoy walking and hiking the awesome trials, going to both pools, boating on Donner Lake at Tahoe Donner's private beach and Marina. While not golfers, this is one reason many owners buy and live here. Having a local Bar and Grill and a pizzaria is terrific as well.

We often go into Truckee for shopping and restaurants (favorite Mexican restaurant in N Cal is El Toro Bravo), drive around Lake Tahoe, or ski Northstar, Squaw or Sugar Bowl.
