Tranquil Historic Carriage House Upper Residence (with serene deck in the trees)

Sleeps6
Bedrooms 3
Bathrooms1
Space 1,200 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 bath, sleeps 6 close to Boone, Banner Elk, Grandfather Mtn, etc.

This secluded property is roughly 5 miles from Boone and App State and 7 from Grandfather Mountain, 3 ski resorts, and Blowing Rock.

Our 90-year old Carriage House was completely restored in Feb 2017. Each floor of the house is a stand-alone residence, with private entrances and full kitchens.

Former guests proclaim, "Gorgeous, romantic, perfect location". "a porch that alone makes the stay worthwhile". "Would recommend the location, place, and host!". "Best Airbnb stay I've had to date."

The space

Located in historic Valle Crucis (between Boone and Banner Elk), this residence is the entire upper floor of our newly renovated Carriage House. Access to the floor is via a private staircase at the front of the building. The staircase can be locked at the bottom or the top. No one else lives in the Carriage House; however, our family lives in the historic farm house nearby and is available as needed.

Most of the furniture in the residence is original to the property or the area circa 1928. At 1,200 sq ft this two bedroom, one bathroom features two queen beds and one queen sized sofa bed. It has a fully stocked kitchen including Keurig coffee machine, stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and kitchen basics for six. The private outdoor deck is shielded from the rain and snow; however, provides a tranquil atmosphere ideal for reading a favorite book or enjoying a delicious cup of coffee.

Relax in the hammock and listen to the birds or watch the fireflies in the forest. Or feel free to borrow a couple of our inflatable tubes and float the Watauga River.

Additionally, the residence has a 70 inch flat screen television in the main living area. With the attached AppleTV, you can access your movie or music libraries via your Netflix, Amazon, or other related account.

Guest access

You will have access to the entire Shull's Farm, including river front access to the Watauga River... just a short 5 min walk away. Explore the granite cliffs overlooking the river and valley or enjoy tranquil walks through the pine and spruce forest.

If you ride a motorcycle, we can accommodate two bikes in the garage. We can easily accommodate three cars.

Interaction with guests

We live on the property and are available as quickly as you need us. We'd also love to tell you about the area, give dining recommendations, or things only locals know. However, if you prefer solitude, we provide keyless entry to the unit... just message us if you need us.

Beautiful, recently renovated home

  • 5 of 5

I rarely leave reviews but feel this place deserves it. It’s a private residence next to the owners’ home. Beautiful. Recently renovated. We normally prefer more modern places which is difficult to find in this area. The carriage house didn’t disappoint. Modern feel with a lot of mountain character. We felt it was perfect. It was just the two of us but we wish we had brought the kids. They had everything you’d need for adults (including th amazing private deck) and also tons of amenities to keep the kids happy if needed. Next time, we’ll definitely be bringing our kids. Beautiful place. Great people. Amazing weekend. Highly recommended.

Delightful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful stay at the carriage house. It was clean, comfortable, decorated very nicely, the beds were comfortable, the patio was welcoming, the area was quiet and we felt very safe. The owners were very accommodating and made sure we had everything that we needed. It was very conveniently located to Appalachian State University where our daughters attended a workshop. We would definitely stay here again!

Unique and relaxing mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

What a great place! My husband and I (along with our dog) rented the upper floor of the Carriage House for 6 nights. It didn't disappoint. Leslie is a charming host and was responsive to our inquiries. She seems to have a knack for finding that balance between making herself available for a friendly conversation and respecting our privacy. The property is located on the Watauga river, about halfway between the town of Banner Elk and downtown Boone. It was a great central location for our various outings - Grandfather Mountain Winery, a comedy show at ASU, dinner at The Local, a day in Blowing Rock, and a hike at Linville Falls. Like many mountain properties, mobile coverage was spotty in the Carriage House. I often had a couple of bars with Verizon. My husband, who has AT&T, had to hop in the car to get a signal. However, the WiFi was pretty reliable, although I never could seem to connect while sitting on the porch. The kitchen has most of the basics, including good quality pots and pans and plenty of plates, cups and silverware. Just few more kitchen items would have been useful. (Maybe a small sauce pan, a cheese grater, some knives that were sharper, a couple more wine glasses?) We definitely put the Keurig machine to good use! The property itself is lovely. Concord grapes were ripening on the 100-year-old vine on the pergola. Leslie gifted us with a jar of homemade jelly! The living spaces have interesting, vintage furniture, but the interiors were not dark and fussy. The decor's grays, browns and teal greens created a comfortable, tranquil atmosphere. Our pup was quite comfortable, too. The carriage house is close to the family's farmhouse, yet felt private. The bedroom windows overlook the backyard of the farmhouse and have ample curtain coverage. The large, covered porch, which really is the showstopper feature of the Carriage House, is very private. Access to the porch is only through the dining area. And with its hammock, comfortable wicker sofa, and strung patio lights, it really was a special place to wind down the day with a bit of bourbon while listening to the sounds of the mountain. Many thanks, Leslie, for a wonderful getaway in your neck of the woods. :)

Nice relaxing place to stay. Central location for area attractions.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience staying at the carriage house for a weekend getaway with the family. The house was in a beautiful location that was close to everything we wanted to explore. Leslie made some awesome recommendations on things to do and places to eat. We highly recommend the Valle Crucis park located just a minute or two from the house, especially if you have kids.

We will definitely stay here again.
