This cabin is not what it seems like in the pictures or the description
I rented this cabin for 4 nights during the Thanksgiving holiday 2018.
I do not recommend this cabin. I would rather have stayed at a hotel than stay here. The description of the cabin is very misleading, all of the things that made this cabin appealing are either not working or not usable.
-Amazing views from the porch
-Close to both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge
- No blankets available. Makes sure to bring your blankets if you want to stay here in the winter or you will freeze to death
- No chlorine on the Jacuzzi. Water was muddy green when we arrived and could not find chlorine in the cabin to add to the Jacuzzi's water.
- Neither of the fireplaces worked
- The kitchen is tiny, only 1 person fits at a time.
- Only one pot and one skillet available, so dont plan to cook a big meal (like we did for Thanksgiving) or you will struggle a lot!
- No departure instructions, so we didnt know what the owner expected and since it was not up to his expectations, our deposit was forfeited.
- Couldnt really enjoy the porch with the very uncomfortable chairs available.
Let me be clear that this is my 5th cabin rental on VRBO or Homeaway and this one by far was the most uncomfortable and least enjoyable.
I would normally not respond to this kind of review but feel I have no choice in the matter.
This renter destroyed our cabin. When they left they did not close the front door so leaves were blown throughout the cabin. The shower curtain was ripped from the hangers and had to be replaced. Trash was left outside of the container all over the front porch area. Decorations throughout the cabin were broken. Dirty dishes were placed in the cabinets and unwashed with other dirty dishes strewn throughout the kitchen area. The lady who cleans our cabin sent pictures of the damage and a damage claim was made with VRBO...hence this horrible review. The cabin is over 1200 sq feet, three floors, with a brand new hot tub, not a Jacuzzi. The hot tub is cleaned and treated between every stay and is treated with Bromine in a floating treatment device. We do not treat with chlorine. All pictures are taken of the cabin and placed on the site and are complete and accurate. This is a beautiful little cabin and is close to everything that you want to see in the Smokys.
We really liked this cabin! It was very clean and we were very comfortable. The location is perfect for visiting both the Gatlinburg and Pidgeon Forge areas as it is right between both. The hot tub is great after a long day out also and the views from the porch were beautiful. We would definitely try to book this cabin again in the future!
Thank you so much for staying with us. We hope you will call us in the future.
It was awful! The cabin needs to be torn down. It had all kinds of safety issues. It was not clean. Bugs and spiders everywhere. I hated to sleep there one night but we did because it was late and we had no where to go. We left the next morning. My 71 year old mother was so upset she called the owner and told him how awful it was and he was a jerk! She told him that she was going to tell everyone how misleading the discription was and that she just wanted to pay one night and leave. That she couldn’t possibly go up and down those tiny spiral staircases 4 more days. He told her that if she was going to badmouth him, why should he help her?! There is way too much to even type. I took several pictures. If someone told us we could stay there for free we wouldn’t! It was that bad. I have stayed in cabins all over Tennessee, Montana, Colorado, Georgia, New Mexico, and Alabama, and I’ve never seen one this rundown and violating so many codes. I can’t believe it’s even in this association. And every bad review on here is exactly how it still is. They haven’t done anything to fix the other complaints. They keep saying the same excuse that they are new owners and haven’t been able to do the repairs or upgrades because it’s always booked. Well, you should do everything that needs to be done BEFORE you rent it out and get a bad reputation!!!!!!! I’d be embarrassed to let anyone stay!
It is very sad when a renter stoops to this level to trash a property but, true to her word, she said she would write horrible comments if I didn't refund her money. This woman called me personally stating if she had known there was a spiral staircase she wouldn't have rented the property, she stated she was 81 years old. I offered there was a sleeper/sofa if she couldn't navigate the steps. This seemed to be the major complaint except she claimed the cabin wasn't clean. Although I had been notified the cabin was cleaned and ready for guests, in an effort to accommodate this guest, I offered to pay for a night in a hotel in Gatlinburg and have the cleaners come back out. She wanted nothing to do with it because of the "spiral staircase". The description on VRBO very clearly states the bedrooms are accessible by spiral staircase and there are two pictures on the site depicting the spiral staircases. This cabin is very clean, our cleaners do an excellent job, as is stated by the 5 star review that was posted just before this one. There is no invasion of spiders and bugs. These are the mountains...the chances of seeing a bug are pretty good and we have an ongoing monthly treatment with Dodson Pest Control to avoid just such incidents.
The Perfect Place
My wife and our two best friends had an absolutely amazing time here. The surrounding area is peaceful, the view is serene, and the cabin is relaxing.
Thank you so much for the review. Thank you for staying with us and hope you'll come back again.
Everything we wanted and everything we needed. Clean, beautiful view, set up to make you feel welcome when you walk in the front door.
Fleeing from a hurricane with my mother in law and three children. Glad we were able to book a cabin the next day as it turned out to be cheaper than renting a hotel for 4 nights. We stayed 3 nights at the bear freedom. The main floor and upstairs were clean (aside from the dead bugs on the couch when we arrived). The different elevations between the kitchen area leading into the dining, and the bathroom are a hazard. We tripped several times during our stay. The spiral stair case in my opinion is not safe. The bottom stair in the master suite is supported by cement blocks. It was a challenge carrying my infant son up and down the stairs. If you are traveling with elderly or small children I would not recommend this cabin. We could not get the TV in the master to work. The couch cushions would not stay on the couch. My son was miserable on the pull out couch. Springs digging into his back. Now the worst part of the stay would have to be the BUGS downstairs. My kids got in the hot tub the first night for all of 10 minutes. When they noticed the amount of large spider webs containing spiders everywhere! That was the only time that deck was used. I get we are in the woods, but I would assume that these webs would be taken care of before guests arrive. My MIL stayed in the room upstairs (no issues). My 14yo son on the pull out couch. My 12yo daughter and I slept downstairs as well as my 3 month old son. I barely got ANY sleep during my stay. The room downstairs was very cold and damp feeling. The first night we stayed we found horseflies downstairs. The second night I find a large spider on the ceiling above the bed. During a 2am feeding I find more spiders in the bathroom as well as a spider/cricket type bug (nothing I've ever seen before). Along with the spider and cricket thing there was another horsefly, and smaller flying bugs. I closed the bathroom door and shove a towel under it. The final night is when I had, had enough of the cabin. We get back after a long day of playing to find a scorpion in the bathroom downstairs! Yes you read that right a SCORPION! Had it not been a long exhausting day and wasn't late at night I would have packed up my family and left. The cabin is in serious need of some TLC and new furniture. I would suggest filling in the cracks and holes downstairs to prevent bugs from entering. I've rented cabins in NC and TN many times and never ran into anything like this. This is my first and last time booking through VRBO.
We are very sorry to hear your stay was not as enjoyable as you wanted it to be. As we are the new owners of the cabin, there are upgrades we are in the process of making. There were issues when purchased we knew needed attention and are in the process of doing so but unfortunately we have been booked so solid we haven't had the opportunity to make those upgrades. We have a pest control company that sprays monthly for bugs, spiders, etc. and after checking with them I was assured they had sprayed prior to your arrival. However, as we inspect the property with a monthly visit, we have noticed there are lots of bugs in the mountains. Also, I personally stayed in the cabin and left two days prior to your arrival. Thank you for the feedback
