Grace and Peace is a centrally-located quaint, quiet island retreat on a double lot in the heart of Chincoteague. Whether you have come to see the world-famous ponies, or to hit the beach, or just to get away and relax with the family or for some renewing down-time alone, we invite you to come and see just what Chincoteague and Grace and Peace have to offer!
There are two bedrooms. a full bath, a living room, kitchen, and utility room all conveniently located on the first floor. The major appliances are all full-sized. The second floor is accessed by a ship's ladder staircase - which is a bit different from those normally found on land. Although our 5 year-old had no troubles from the get-go navigating the slightly steeper grade, we don't recommend toddlers/preschoolers traversing the steps unattended. The upstairs features a large bedroom, which is outfitted with two single beds and a cot for the smaller kids. The cot can easily be relocated to the first floor by our guests or in advance of arrival, just ask!
The home is equipped with high-speed cable internet and a Wi-Fi network; a VOIP telephone (because some cell providers' service can be sketchy); a wall-mounted flat-panel HD TV with a Roku streaming box and 30 Sling TV channels, plus five additional channels of dedicated children's programming. There is a Schlage smart-lock, powered by a Wink hub home automation system for self-check in, and three separate wall-mounted heating/AC units with independent remote controls to regulate the temperature, all for your comfort and convenience. We've also added a "productivity center" for those who MUST do some work while away. Located in a nook beneath the stairs to the second floor is a fold-out desk, stocked with stationary and office supplies, with a work light on top and a floor mounted power strip for your electronic devices. All bedding, towels, etc. are provided for you (because who wants to take up space packing those for a getaway?). And, as a special treat, we've outfitted our downstairs full beds with 800 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheet sets to encourage a great night's sleep!
Outside on our double lot, there is space to sit and chat, with patio chairs and a table and an adjacent fire pit. There is also a propane grill provided for those who want to keep the kitchen cool while cooking up their fresh seafood.
Across the way from the house and up the street a few driveways is the Pony Centre, with a seasonal trolley stop out front. Only a bit further up is Black Narrows Brewing, is the first microbrewery on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Next door, at the corner of Maddox Blvd. is the Brant, a gift shop with a large inventory of souvenirs, beachware, household, and personal items. Around the corner are restaurants and specialty shops. The Island Creamery, Mr. Whippy's, Pico Taqueria, and the Sea Star Cafe are all within a 15 minute walk. as is Island Foods, with the widest selection of groceries on the island. Don't want to walk? Right across from the Brant is Fun on Wheels, where you can rent all manner of bikes, motor scooters, cruisers (comfy and stylish golf carts) and more.
The water is never far, and there are charter services, kayak rentals, and guides all within a two mile radius. If it is the sands of Assateague you have come for, that beautiful beach is across the causeway, through a coastal pine forest, and past the iconic lighthouse, all less than 5 miles away.
