Guest Service purchased this House in 2000
Why Guest Service chose Oak Park
We chose this home because of its proximity to downtown in the more peaceful side of town. We loved the history of the neighborhood and the charm of the architectural details inside the home. The fact that it had a gated yard, and covered lanai was another unusual feature which drew us to this home - and the one next door which is an close copy.

Perfect Santa Barbara base
Just spent a fabulous weekend in Santa Barbara which was made better by our extremely cozy lodgings. Easy walking distance from the State Street attractions without being too much in the tourist melee. This house is great for a small family or two couples. We enjoyed cocktails in the back yard and really appreciated the beach gear seeing as we didn’t bring our own. I highly recommend this spot and will definitely visit again the next time we travel to SB
Cute house, expensive cleaning fee
This house is cute and in a great location walking distance to many restaurants and stores. It's very old and small, but that's expected in this neighborhood. I have to give it a lower rating because I feel that the high cleaning fee is extremely unreasonable for an 850 square foot home. Of course I knew that when I booked it, and I did anyway because of the location, but once I saw the check-out instructions I was angry that we were charged so much. One of the check out instructions was "clean kitchen," and "wash dishes with special attention to the pots and pans", which I feel should have been included in the cost of the cleaning. We also had to start washing the towels and strip the beds. I’m not sure how the cleaning can be so high for a 850 square foot house when the kitchen and some of the laundry is done by the renter. Of course we did everything that was asked and tried to keep the kitchen extra clean because they said that a significant extra fee would be charged if these tasks were not completed and kitchen was not left as it was found.
I’ve stayed in houses three times as large in comparably expensive towns where we didn’t have to clean the kitchen and the cleaning fee was less. You’d think that for such a high cleaning fee the house would be immaculate, but there was a film of dust on the dishes in the kitchen on open shelves and the shower curtain and some of the linens looked dingy. Some of the dishes didn't look that clean either, since they are washed by the previous renters there was probably very little quality control.
This adorable home was just as described and in a really central location.
It was cute and comfortable.
It was fairly easy.

Ant Issue! Nice location with basic amenities
Location: The property is in a great location to State Street and many shops. They are all within a nice walking distance.
Parking: the parking spots associated with the rental are off the street but definitely narrow. It takes a couple minutes to find a break in traffic before backing out. Street parking was full in the morning and afternoon, with more openings mid-day.
Amenities: the property has the basic interior amenities covered. Beds are decent. Patio furniture is a bit limited if you plan to enjoy the outside area. No beach chairs as listed in the property amenities.
Issues: the kitchen was swarming with ants the first morning when we woke up. Contacted the property owners who came over and cleaned up the issue. Just a couple hours later then ants were back. Over then next few days they slowed down but continued to come into the kitchen. I brought the issue up to the property manager again and they said, “it happens when it rains.” They said they would contact the property owner to find a fix, but I did not ever hear anything from them. We did not use the kitchen due to this issue and I did not plan to battle ants for a week at a vacation rental.
I would not recommend this property due to the ant issue and the lack of responsiveness. Also after paying a larger cleaning fee, the check-out instructions include starting laundry and stripping all the sheets off the beds. I felt like this extent of cleaning the property should not be something the guest needs to take care of.
Hello Adrienne, thank you for your review. We are so sorry about the ant issue. Not that it makes it any better, but the entire city has been plagued with ants due to the excessive rain this year. The Ant man came as soon as the rain stopped. The treatment washes away in the rain so we couldn't have him come during your stay. I wish we had know you couldn't use the kitchen because the owner of that home owns a restaurant and he's quite generous when things like that happen. Please feel free to contact us when you come back and dinner will be on us!
This home is just three blocks to Downtown and State Street, The Arlington Theater, The Public Market, Victoria theater, bars, restaurants, shopping and museums. The Urban Wine Trail, beach, Funk Zone and Stearn's Wharf are a quick trolley ride down state street.
