Your home away from home. That is what 3 kings, a new holiday home in Bruges, wants to be. As cosy and warm as the city itself.
3 kings was built in 1901, and was completely rebuilt three years ago by the owners, a young family from Bruges. Today their home feels timeless. You’ll find a mix of design, vintage pieces, and thrift shop finds. The terrace and garden are oriented to the south, so from spring till autumn, you can enjoy your meals there. There is fresh basil, parsley and thyme in the herb corner. On cold winter nights, you can gather round the fireplace in the outdoor lounge.
3 kings has 3 bedrooms (each 20 m² and a double bed), a spacious bathroom (shower, tub, toilet, washer, dryer), a separate toilet, a nice, fully equipped kitchen and a cosy living room. The perfect getaway in Bruges!
He was born and bred in Bruges and helped restore some of the most remarkable buildings in the city. He even installed the ‘windhaan’ on the brick tower of the Church of Our Lady, which happens to be the tallest of its kind in Europe. And that was before he conquered his fear of heights. Today he works as a docker in Zeebrugge, a seaside resort and harbour next to Bruges. He knows everything about the hidden nightlife in the city and can tell you exactly why Belgian beers are the best.
She moved to Bruges 20 years ago, travelled the world and wrote about it in several Belgian magazines. When she settled down, she kept on writing about her own beautiful hometown and published several travel guides about Bruges and the Belgian coast (see pictures). Today she writes and styles for interior, lifestyle, and food magazines. She knows everything about Bruges' hidden gems and can tell you exactly why Belgian chocolate is the best.
Sophie Allegaert purchased this house in 2008
Together they bought an old house and rebuilt it completely. He did most of the work; she told him what to do. By the time their fireplace in the garden was finished, they looked around, decided their work was done, and needed a new project. In the meantime you can enjoy their home. You’ll see, it will soon become your home away from home in Bruges.
- You'll be living in a real, lively Brugean neighbourhood and can therefore enjoy the city as we do.
- This little gem seems nothing special from the outside, but once you'll get in, you will be amazed.
- On summer days you can enjoy the garden and the terrace.
- In wintertime gather round the fireplace in the outdoor lounge or browse through the collection of books in the library.
We (family of three adults) stayed at 3Kings over Christmas, chosen because it was large enough for each to have their own space but with lots of room to come together at mealtimes and in the evenings...plus it's a lovely walk into the centre of Bruges, so no need for a car. The house is well equipped (dishwasher, washing machine, drier, all the kitchen equipment you are likely to need), tastefully decorated and is warm with comfortable beds - just what you need after a long days sight-seeing. We even managed to light the fire in the garden room and enjoy the novelty of having a beer outside in the depths of winter! Sophie is a good host, quick to respond and a very helpful atttitude :) The only (very slight) downside is the very slow speed of the wifi if you are used to high speed broadband, so take DVDs to watch rather than plan to stream movies online...but this is a very small thing when stacked against all the good things about 3Kings, which we would recommended without hesitation!
3 Kings was a fantastic place to stay in and it made our first time in Bruges even better.A lovely, clean property with so much character.Comfy beds-which were extremely welcome at the end of a busy day site seeing. The property has everything you could possibly need and nothing was too much trouble for Sophie-the owner.
3 Kings is ideally located within walking distance of the main city-ideal for families or couples visiting Bruges-a definate 10/10
Sophie was a great host and had a good suggestion for all our needs. She helped whenever she could and made the stay feel very relaxing indeed. The accommodation had three good sized double bedrooms and a nice clean bathroom. The garden was enclosed and great for our son. It was a ten minute (and pleasant) walk to the start of the old town and felt out of the action enough to be calming. Would highly recommend this place for a long weekend and there were no issues with the administrative side of things. Indeed, Sophie was very flexible with us.
We were a group of four friends and 3 Kings was really a home away from home. It was so nice to come back to the house after a whole day of walking and site-seeing. The house is in a quiet residential part of Brugge, just 10 - 15 minutes walk to the town centre and 25 minutes to the train station if you want to visit Gent, Brussels, Antwerp. The house was clean, well maintained with all the amenities you need. And the owners, Bam and Sophie couldn't be nicer and more friendly. The whole experience and communication with Sophie from the start to the end was excellent. We had just one minor problem with the TV on the first day (it might have been our fault not to be able to get the TV working) but Sophie and Bram took care of it immediately. We would recommend the 3 Kings without any hesitation. Thank you, Sophie and Bram for everything.
The house was lovely in every way. Fantastic shower, huge comfortable beds and great location for walking into Bruges. Sophie could not have been more helpful.
This was the perfect place to serve as a jumping off point throughout northern Belgium. It is literally two blocks from the old medieval gatehouse in Bruges, so it is an easy stroll into the heart of town. At the same time, because it is just outside of the crowded narrow streets of the old city, parking is free and fairly easy to get (we usually parked about 1 block away from the house).
The owners are long-time residents of Bruges and love to share tips on exploring the best restaurants, cafes, etc. They also go out of their way to provide a personal touch and to make sure that their guests are happy.
If I were to return to the region, I would definitely stay here again!
Within 100 metres from 3 kings you'll find: a pharmacist, a newspaper shop, a bakery, a butcher, a playground, a grocery shop.... Everything you need!
Bruges is a lively, cultural city with events all through the year.
You can also discover the Belgian seashore (famous for it's stretchy sandy beaches) by car, train or bike or visit some of the other Belgian medieval cities: Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. All three of them can be reached by car or train.
London, Amsterdams and Paris are just a few hours away and can also easily be visited by car or train.
