Overview

About the property

A fully updated, quaint cabin; 3 bedrm/2 bath for 8, with a beautiful lake view

Start creating your vacation memories at our super cute cabin right on a beautiful cove of Lake Hartwell. The cabin offers an inviting, open floor plan and easily sleeps 8, ideal for sharing the fun with extended family and friends. The master bedroom has an incredibly comfortable king size bed, so pile the kids in at night to watch a movie, and sleep in late! All the beds are supremely comfortable. If you're the first up in the morning, pry your guests out of the soft sheets with the smell of freshly brewed coffee (always included) and breakfast. After breakfast, if you're not loafing inside or lounging on the sunny deck, stroll down to the water and take a plunge. The walk from the house to the dock is short and gently sloped. The 100ft of shoreline is perfect for launching kayaks and SUP boards and offers a safe place for small children to get their toes wet. Nestled within a private cove, the dock is situated on "deep water" so bring your own boat and use the dock slip between day trips and sunset cruises. Access to "big water" is right around the corner - just a short cruise to all the action on the lake including small islands and sand bars. There is a huge 8 seat picnic table on the dock for enjoying lunch or dinner -you'll never have to be far from the water!

You're going to appreciate the private, peaceful neighborhood on the Georgia side of Lake Hartwell. A quaint, winding road takes you pass cows, goats and rolling pastures. When you pull up to the cabin it may look modest, but once inside you'll be welcomed with an open floor plan which is ample for family and friends. You'll be able to gather or relax with ease. All guests will be able to stream, watch and play their devices with free WI-Fi, even on the dock. When its time to put the devices away, play cards at the long farm table or bring your favorite family game/craft, build a campfire, stroll the neighborhood or get back to the main attraction, the lake!

Lake Hartwell is among the Upstate's 3 best lakes right alongside Keowee and Jocassee. We think you'll delight in our accommodations and relish every minute of your stay!

*Please note that booking a reservation through VRBO constitutes an agreement that all personal watercrafts (kayaks, SUP boards or your own boat) will be used at your own discretion. Our VRBO guest takes all responsibility for the use of these items. Thank you.

About Ryan and Amy Schnackenberg

Amy and I have always had wonderful experiences booking temporary rentals, so when our neighbor shared his story about his own property, we decided to dive into our first investment property! We've enjoyed "The Lazy Loon" so much, we hope you will too! It's new for 2017, fully updated, but it still keeps the charm of a traditional cabin, relaxing, beautiful water, secluded location, and more!

Ryan and Amy Schnackenberg purchased this house in 2016

Why Ryan and Amy Schnackenberg chose Hartwell

When we first saw this property after a long day of air travel, this was the first home we saw! Tired, but excited to see all the listings our realtor had prepared for us, the Lazy Loon was the best fit. I simply recall opening the door after a long day of traveling, exhausted, and I said: 'now this is a place I can relax and unwind."

Built in 1992, the property has only had a few owners, none of whom used the home with any regularity! It was pristine for its age, the kitchen and bathrooms looked brand new. It was cute, and with our design inspiration, we provided just enough renovations to keep the relaxing feel, while providing convenient updates and an inviting, fresh decor!

What makes this house unique

The drive into the Lazy Loon is fun and unique each time. Guests pass old southern style, abandoned, farm homes and there's crazy looking junkyard just off the roadside. Following that, there's a beautiful horse farm with rolling hills. As you approach the neighborhood, look for goats and cows! There are several calfs grazing the pasture most seasons. And finally, as you pull up to our cabin you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful lakefront, just an enough to build your excitement to rush down to the dock and plunge into the water! In the mornings, you may hear the roosters crowing in the distance and depending on the season, you'll see three loons diving for their breakfast; other birds sing and flutter vigorously from tree to tree. Be on the lookout for the Blue Heron. He likes to sun himself on our dock and our neighbor's! Don't be alarmed, you may also be greeted by the quiet cul-de-sac's mascot, Champ, a mix breed German Shepard. He'll play it cool, and likely ignore you, but be careful where you walk around in the grass, dogs are free to roam around! As the day progresses the sun gets hot, so stay near the lake, enjoy the cool A/C or better yet relax on the shady deck. In the late afternoon, the sun will be on part of the deck, but the dock will be in the shade! On a clear moonless night, you can see the Milky Way, and depending on the time of year, Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn are visible, while Orion and the Big Dipper appear larger than you ever imagined...and listen closely, you may hear the owl! There's so much more to experience, so when you arrive, make sure you share them with us in the guestbook! Ryan and Amy Schnackenberg

Beautiful lakeside cabin with loads of amenities!

  • 5 of 5

Our weekend stay could not have been any better! Not only is the cabin situated in a great location on the lake but, it’s also beautifully decorated and affords loads of amenities! The Schnackenbergs have truly created a wonderful lakeside retreat that I definitely plan on returning to as often as possible!

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Amy and Ryan maintain a spectacular home in a great location. Their beautiful home has everything you need - from a perfectly appointed kitchen to super comfortable beds to kayaks so you can enjoy the lakeside location. Everyone from grandpa to the six year old had a great time. We really couldn't have asked for a cleaner, more comfortable, beautiful place to spend some family time together.

Top notch communication every step of the way. Amy and Ryan always responded quickly and were great about reaching out as well.

We have stayed at many vacation homes over the years and this is definitely one of our favorites. We can't wait to return.

Thank you Amy and Ryan!

Quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean and well taken care of. The location is quiet, and the dock is a fun place to hang out. If you have or rent a boat, the dock is very convenient. Definitely worth a stay.
