" Lani mai Honua Hale" translates to Heaven on Earth. That is what we hope you will find when you unlock the front door of our beautiful "old Hawaiian" home and walk in. This is a good time to take a few seconds and stop, set your bags down, take a deep breath and let your soul catch up a little. Think of this as more than just a vacation.....
This house was originally built in the early seventies at a time when neighbors were few and far between in this part of the island. We purchased it in 2014 after it had sat vacant for many years. For the next three years we completely renovated it from top to bottom updating every surface while honoring its original Hogan style design. Along the way we salvaged and repurposed everything we could and incorporated those things into its current incarnation.
Everything is designed to make your time here as comfortable as possible. We have gone out of our way to provide all the simple comforts to make your stay as easy and relaxing as it can be. When you get here, take off your shoes, grab an ice cold drink from the fridge and walk out to the Lanai. The tidal pond from the picture is right there. Go down and sit on the steps and put your feet in the water. Your vacation just started. Enjoy!

Amazing house at an amazing location
This is a great property in an amazing location. You can tell a lot of care went into renovating this house. The outdoor space was amazing. Whether in the morning or the evening it was wonderful to sit out on the lanai or just walk around the yard. We enjoyed the tide pools and found the morning was the best time when the tide was lower. Thanks for sharing this property!
A wonderful place!
We thoroughly enjoyed all of the amenities of this awesome house. Absolutely nothing was lacking. By far, the best VRBO experience we have had. I loved learning about the history of the house in the articles and photos at the property.
My 8-year-old daughter learned how to snorkel in the pool in front of the house and then we went on to be dazzled by the larger tide pools a short walk away. It was the best snorkeling complete with an amazing diversity of fish and a sea turtle! The weird sound of the toads at night was spectacular. Overall, an incredible experience and this is where we will stay when we return.
If we could rate this home more than 5 stars we would! The location is wonderful: just a few houses away from fantastic snorkeling at the Kapoho tide pools, and also centrally located to explore the east side of the Big Island (it is about an hour to both Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Hilo). The house is newly renovated and beautifully decorated, and equipped with everything we needed. An amazing bonus was the warm natural pool in the back yard! Although it does rain more on this side of the island, it didn't rain all the time, and the weather certainly didn't stop us from doing and seeing everything we wanted to. We really enjoyed the lush jungle environment, and the laid-back and low-key atmosphere of the Puna district.
Tide Pool Treasure
We really enjoyed this home and are very appreciative of the imaginative vision, hard labor and comfortable furnishings the owners put into making it such a special place! Arriving at night, we were especially thankful to find everything as promised and ready for us. After sleeping well (on a firm mattress) we then delighted in awakening to the sounds of tropical birds right outside our window, through which the first rays of light began to reveal how charming the property really is! The house inside and out is comfortably and generously furnished, lacking for nothing and pleasing to the eye. We loved the connection with natural rhythms provided by having our own tide pool and proximity to a nature reserve. Despite wanting to spend most of our time in this oasis, we also enjoyed a few field trips, including snorkeling in the nearby tide pools; a day hiking in the Volcano Park; checking out the beach parks south of this property. We also liked dining at both Kaleo's Bar and Grill and Ning's Thai cuisine in Pahoa, as well as shopping at Island Naturals Pahoa Market and Deli and the used book store on the main street. Life is good here!!!
Truly Heaven on Earth
We absolutely loved our stay in Kapoho at this amazing home. The location could not be better....steps to the tide pools while being surrounded by a lush private yard and your own private geothermal pool that is the best swimming pool. The amount of outdoor living space made for lovely breakfasts listening to the birds and watching the butterflies and lazy relaxing evenings listening to the frogs. The house itself was gorgeous and so comfortable.
Beautiful home and location. Absolutely the best vacation I’ve had in years. Highly recommended
Excellent home, location, and amenities. Very relaxing setup. Proximity to the snorkeling at Kapoho was amazing. Rent this home and you will be very happy. The backyard pool was very relaxing and unique. The house was stocked with everything you need for a great time. The owners have thought of it all.
