Ocean and Volcano Views - 4.3 acres of Private Paradise

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

This well-manicured property sits on 4.3 acres of well-established citrus orchards with many fruit trees all around the property including oranges, lemons, tangerines, pumelos, bananas, malabar chestnuts, macadamia nuts, mulberries, guava, at least 4 different varieties of avocado, abui, and more! Pick and eat to your heart's content whatever happens to be in season! Enjoy ocean and mountain views from the lanai - you'll never want to leave!

This incredible 2-bedroom, 2-bath off-grid home was custom built in 2007. The master bedroom is private, with its en suite bath & shower that opens up to the lanai and outdoors, California king size bed, private ocean view lanai and entertainment center with TV and DVD, is the perfect escape after a long day of sightseeing. The 2nd bedroom with en suite bath has a beautiful queen bed & also a workspace in case you brought work with you. The kitchen is large and easy to work in and of course has all the amenities that you will need to cook up a scrumptious island meal, including a gas grill on the lanai. The details in the cabinetry, counter tops and basins are just remarkable! The very comfortable living boasts a giant TV, Dish satellite; surround sound, and Blu-ray DVD. Of course we also have unlimited internet available. The lanai, however, is where you'll most likely spend ALL your time, either sitting and having coffee in the mornings and admiring the view of the ocean to the North, or Mauna Kea to the West, lunch or dinner with friends, or simply relaxing in the hammock with the cool trade winds rocking you back and forth.

Almost Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house and surroundings. Getting there was daunting with a rutted dirt road. Ocean view was very distant and obscured much of the time. Never saw the volcano views. Still, given those disappointments, the house and settings are enchanting with the lush yard, rainbow eucalyptus trees, fruit trees, and open-air living. Almost paradise.

Beautiful, relaxing, loved the rainbow eucalyptus.

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this property. The house is very comfortable and welcoming. The huge lanai with multiple seating areas was perfect. When not exploring the rest of the island we spent much of our time sitting there and enjoying the views and sounds. Pahoa town is nearby and has several nice restaurants. Kaleo’s is a must for great food. Get the calamari- you won’t be disappointed.

We walked the property every day discovering something new every time. We learned citrus fruit ate tricky. I picked 5 ‘oranges’ intending to make fresh OJ for breakfast. Oops! They were lemons so we had lemonade instead. I picked a ‘lime’ for our gin and tonics- not! It was an unripe guava. Loved the master bath shower and the feeling of an outdoor shower.

We loved the remote feeling of the house but also having the close proximity to Hilo, the volcano and beachess.

Mike, the owner, was gracious and easy to work with.

We would love to return to the Big Island and would definitely stay at this property again.

Serene, Nature-Lover's delight!

  • 5 of 5

This property is a piece of paradise, full of the sights and sounds of nature! There are plenty of fruit and trees to enjoy around the grounds, and yet it is well-maintained. The house itself is beautiful and nicely furnished, with a wide lanai (porch area) with plenty of seating and a hammock to relax in and enjoy the breeze. You get the entire house to yourself - plenty of privacy. There are two fully connected good-size TV's with free Netflix and the like. Wifi also works great! The house was nicely stocked with toiletries, all the kitchen essentials, and all the towels/linens you could want. During our stay, there were some small flying beetles that were attracted to the lights at night, which the book at the property mentions as being seasonal, and they really weren't any trouble, mostly just clinging to the walls around the lights, and most were kept out by screens and keeping the doors closed at night and/or minimizing the use of outdoor lights. There are also some cool-looking geckos (ubiquitous throughout the Hawaiian Islands) that hide behind paintings around the house which aren't any trouble at all. Nearby attractions are the Lava Tree national park, Ahalanui hot ponds, Isaac Hale beach park, and Kapoho tide pools, as well as scenic drives, etc - the book at the property provides information regarding these attractions. The mattress we slept on was very comfortable. There are nice views all around the house and there is plenty of natural light coming in through the many windows. The hosts are very friendly and responsive to requests! All-in-all, a lovely place to stay!

Great location for exploring the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

We (two couples) found Sandbagger Estate to be a very comfortable, beautiful property. We especially enjoyed the large outdoor deck with comfortable furniture and the prodigious fruit trees. Fresh oj in the morning was a special treat! We highly recommend this property.

Great house with views and beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this property and what a treat! The house was raised so there is a view of the ocean and you get more breezes when sitting on the lanai. It rained a couple of days and it was cool to see the weather come in off the ocean before getting to the house.

The property itself was beautiful with rainbow eucalyptus and fruit trees! Snagged an avocado off a tree at the beginning of our stay and it was ripe before we left. Delicious!

The owners were responsive and friendly. I would definitely stay here again if we come back.
