About owner/property manager Bonnie Frownfelter

My husband and I live in Alger County but our son and grandchildren are in Manistique so we plan on retiring to this cottage in a few years. Meanwhile we want to share the serenity and beauty of this property with others.

We purchased this 1948 well-maintained stone cottage from the original family that built it so there is much love and care that is evident in the home and surrounding grounds.

Why owner/property manager Bonnie Frownfelter chose Manistique

The peaceful setting stole our heart at first sight! This well maintained 1948 vintage stone cottage brings back a rapidly forgotten and disappearing era as we zoom into the future.

It has many features of the era and is decorated to enhance the charm of the mid-century era.

The view of the beautiful Indian River alone calms the soul but add all the wildlife that visits daily creates wonderful memories.

One of the days we were there looking at the property for the third time to make the final decision to purchase or not two (2) huge white-tail deer came running right through the backyard. This convinced us this was the property for us, as if we needed more convincing!

What makes this cottage unique

Enhanced concrete seawall and deck right on the river. Direct Indian Lake access via boat. Amazing views from a populated neighborhood but privacy on the three (3) most important sides where most of the time would be spent outside when not off exploring the area and all it has to offer.

A relaxing riverside cottage!!

  • 4 of 5

We truly enjoyed our time here! It was the perfect place for a relaxing long weekend. We were greeted by homemade cookies upon arrival (a fantastic surprise!) and then were treated to the lovely view of the river. In the mornings we got to see a Blue Heron fishing and the evenings a pair of Sandhill Cranes nested in the long grass along the banks. The outdoor seating and fire pit were wonderful to enjoy. Although the place could use updates here and there, the character of the home is superb! It's also a located in a great central location from day trips to places like Fayette, pictured rocks and Tahquamenon falls. We would highly recommend this home and hope to return some day!

Owner's Response: Thank you for choosing Rivers Bend Stone Cottage for your weekend getaway and looking forward hosting you again in the future. Yes, updates do need to be made and will as finances and time permit. We just purchased this cottage the end of May 2017 for our future permanent retirement home in a few years. Updates and improvements (TLC) are on the 'To Do' list. Thank you for this wonderful review!
