About Nancy and Bob Tardy

Nancy and I grew up in Colorado. We love backpacking, biking, and hiking. I spend most of my spare time hunting, fishing and getting the cabin ready for guests.

Nancy and Bob Tardy purchased this house in 1998

Why Nancy and Bob Tardy chose Steamboat Springs

I fell in love with the area when I was a boy hunting deer and elk in the mountains north of town. Although the area is developing, it still remains a more laid-back resort spot with great hunting, fishing and skiing.

What makes this house unique

Deer and elk are often seen in the hay meadow in front of the cabin. We can bike to town or up Rabbit Ears Pass for a more challenging road-ride. The Emerald Mountain State Wildlife Area lies two miles north.

Absolutely adorable, cozy, CLEAN cabin! Perfect to spend the holidays in. We cooked all of our meals in the cabin and it's perfectly equipped kitchen. We made fires each evening and played games. Our dog LOVED running through the several feet of snow. Snow-snowing on the property through the aspens was gorgeous. Cannot wait to return and stay for longer!

great cabin

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The view from the cabin is really great, and it feels relaxing and cozy. This is also one of the most well-equipped vrbos that we have stayed at, and it is very clean (I'm picky). The location is nicely removed from town, but not too far (~15 min to ski slopes). Our kids loved sleeping in the loft. This was our second time staying here, and we'll likely be back again :)

Perfect new spot for the annual family ski getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Clean, great views, all appliances worked beautifully as advertised (hasn't always been my experience at other locations). Very grateful for the special time away with family enhanced by the surrounding beauty.

Great Winter Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over the first week of January with our two elementary age children and our dog. We all loved it. The cabin has tons of space, and (numerous!) very comfortable sleeping options. We cooked a lot and the kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed for preparing meals and for eating. The owners have provided some games and puzzles, and while the TV isn't connected to get any channels, there are some DVDs there and a player if you want to bring your own. We enjoyed movies after long days in the outdoors. Wifi wasn't hard to figure out, and worked well when I needed to do a bit of work. On the property the owners have provided sleds and there is a big hill that was perfect for us for sledding. Our well-behaved dog enjoyed running up and down the hill after the kids when they went sledding. (I say well-behaved because there is nothing stopping a dog from running down the length of the property to the road and other nearby properties if you have a runner.) There is also enough room for doing some snowshoeing loops. The cabin is remote and quiet without being too far out of town. The drive in took us about 15 minutes. We enjoyed a truly lovely week here, and will return.

Wonderful and away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at the cabin. It was far enough out of town to feel like a wonderful getaway but not so far that we couldn't go in for groceries.

Highly recommended!

It rained almost the whole four days we were there but the cabin and location are great.

Car: necessary

Some people come to Haller Hideaway just to relax in this cozy vacation cabin, but if you're active, Steamboat has lots to offer. In the winter, snow sports are the order of the day, with plenty of options within a quick 15-minute drive, or you can do nothing but enjoy the view of Mt. Werner from the comfort of the living room!

Summer brings biking and hiking in nearby forests and wilderness areas. Stagecoach Reservoir and the Yampa River will delight you with fishing, boating, rafting, tubing, and swimming in the cool, clear waters.

Fall big-game hunting near Steamboat is some of the best in the nation.
