Nestled in a guava forest on 7 acres, altitude about 4500 feet above sea level, looking down to the Gulf of Nicoya (part of the Pacific Ocean). Many tropical animals and birds have been spotted here. Hummingbirds everywhere! Very secluded. Rushing mountain stream which is heavily wooded forms one of the boundaries of this property.

Beautiful property and views. Janice and Richard were wonderful hosts, very knowledgeable and accommodating when we had to change our dates due to the hurricane. The place was clean, and the front porch was screened and very nice to sit in. I think I would rent the big house for the space if we visited again, but both homes were lovely! Thank you for sharing your place and time.

We had a rental car so we were able to explore the Sta Elena cloud reserve, and check out town. The bakery was great in the morning and a short walk down the road.

                                                              highlight of the trip!

I had a wonderful 3 night with my brothers and sisters and spent sometime together, we hadn't done for years, the House has a full kitchen, comfortable beds, high water pressure in the showers. Richard is a very friendly and helpful host also he has great recommendations The Monteverde area is absolutely beautiful!

                                                              Highly recommended for families

                                                              Elizabeth S.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay in the large green house (2 adults, 2 kids). Loved the hammock on balcony and ping pong table. House has a full kitchen, comfortable beds, high water pressure in the showers. Richard has great recommendations and is able to offer discounts on many activities. We loved the hanging bridges at Selvatura and saw a quetzal near bridge #4. One of the highlights was walking up the road from the house to the Rosewood bowl shop, touring the orchid garden (free), chatting with the owners, and picking out a few bowls to bring home. Don’t miss nearby restaurant Sabor Tico (driveable) and the local bakery (walkable). Thank you Richard!

                                                              Road trip winter getaway

                                                              Lori P.

This was the first place we arrived to stay after landing at the airport and getting our rental car. It was already dark when we arrived. Richard walked us to our little hidden rental cottage, providing flashlights. The next morning, waking up, still lying in bed, the view out the window was breathtaking, we could sit and watch out the dining room window all day loved that it was a screened in room, could hear the sounds of jungle nature! we loved this place. we bought all our groceries in town, and cooked our meals in the cottage. we hike the bridges, went on the night hike nearby and explored a little of the property...all recommendations from Richard are highly recommended, he provides a great self drawn map and directions. I was very excited by the first leg of our family vacation and we all agreed it was a good idea that we rented a car a explore all of Costa Rica. Beds were comfy, hot water was plenty and towels were big and soft! I would definitely stay here again and again

                                                              Awesome, highlight of the trip!

                                                              Brian (drew) M.

My family of four adults had a lovely stay in this 3 bedroom place and we could have fit many more people. The house was situated on top of a mountain with a beautiful view of the forest and the puntarenas peninsula. It was equipped with a full kitchen which we made breakfast and coffee in. There was the added bonus of a laundry machine. There was lots of space for everyone, including a bedroom with a private en-suite. The mattresses were very comfortable to sleep on. There is a great loft with an extra bed, room for hanging laundry, a ping-pong table and a great balcony with a hammock.

We were within walking distance to a night forest animal walk where we saw vipers and sloths, and within driving distance to many activities in Monteverde and St. Elena. Richard had great recommendations for activities and restaurants and gave very clear directions as to how to get to them. He is very nice and was able to give us some discounts for activities in the area as well. Thanks to him we even got to see the some-what rare quetzal bird in November which was amazing. We would definitely stay here again should be come back again to Costa Rica.

The cottage is surprisingly more open than you think looking from the outside. Once inside, the view just hits you - awesome! And then you see the various birds, butterflies and hummingbirds from the inside "patio." The house is well equipped and clean. Richard was a wonderful host giving us great tips on places to eat, things to see, and even a discount to Selvatura (great zip-lining, hanging bridges, etc.). We only stayed for 2 nights, and wished we stayed for at least one more. If we ever come back to Monteverde, we would definitely stay here again, and would recommend this house to our friends.

In the Monteverde area there are 400 species of birds of the 850 species found in Costa Rica. We have spotted many mammals and butterflies on our property as well. A pair of Emerald green toucanets nested in our old century plant. The distinctive 'pong' sound of the bellbird can be heard nearby. So can the 'toledo' of the manakin. Richard can take you on walks down through the forest to our rushing mountain stream with small waterfalls. You may hear coyotes at night; several sizes of agoutis graze through our back garden.
