Magnificently located Villa right by the stunning white sandy beach of Isla Canela with direct sea views and a large private pool open all year round.
It has 6 X air conditioning units for the summer, which can also heat in winter. There is additional gas central heating and a log burning stove for cosy evenings outside of the main summer season - even though the sunshine is often strong enough to have coffee outside at Christmas!
Other aspects that make Villa Canela special and a wonderfully relaxing "home from home" are:
- the mosquito nets on many windows,
- long 2m beds with good mattresses,
- two kitchens for large families or groups and
- beautiful shaded terraces,
- a stunning roof vista.
- bicycles for guests to use free of charge.
When used as a whole villa the upstairs lounge can create a sixth bedroom. If rented as 2 apartments, the private pool can be used by the two rental units. The property has sea views from upstairs and downstairs lounges, with a breathtaking coastal panorama from the rooftop terrace; the Algarve of Portugal can be seen in the distance.
Restaurants, cafes and beach bars are only 3 minutes walk from the villa in Isla Canela; a 4* hotel and small supermarkets are close by too.
Isla Canela is the beautiful beach area of Ayamonte, a market town with many shops, walking streets and Spanish festivals / processions.
Ayamonte and The Algarve: The very pretty fishing port and town of Ayamonte on the Spanish/Portuguese border is lined with street cafes, restaurants, tapas bars and nice boutiques/shops - the freshly caught fish and seafood in the restaurants is a big draw to Spaniards from Sevilla, Cordoba, Badajoz, Madrid and even from the north of Spain. Other nearby places of interest are Huelva, from where Columbus first sailed to the New World; El Rocio, famous for the annual pilgrimage; and Andalusian capital, Seville, renowned for its history, tapas, flamenco, Moorish architecture and so much more.
The eastern end of the Portuguese Algarve is also worth a visit with the historic town of Tavira only 40 mins drive away.
Beaches and Activities: The beach is very safe and ideal for water sports, with a sandbank out to sea where “almejas” (mussels) can be fished with your feet!. The beaches are highly prized by Spaniards, but still little known to foreigners. The long pristine sandy beaches provide a base from which to enjoy water sports for which the area is famous - sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing. If you do not want to try them yourself, you can just relax on the beach and enjoy the skilful gymnastics of the kite-surfers and windsurfers. There are yacht marinas at Isla Canela, Ayamonte and Isla Cristina where sailors of all abilities can hire boats or book trips to enjoy the Atlantic Coastline.
For younger family members, on the road into Cartaya (approx 30 mins) there is the Kartodromo de Cartaya (Karting) open year round, and the very popular Aquopolis water park.
Cycling in and around Isla Canela is great for the whole family. There are cycle paths with no cars along the side of the beach, tracks into Ayamonte and a disused railway line; there are also mountain biking trails alongside the river.
Golf and Kite Surfing: Five excellent golf courses nearby: Isla Canela Golf, Costa Esuri Golf, Monte Rei, Castro Marim and Islantilla Golf Courses, winter home of the Swedish & Danish Golf Unions. Facilities include Driving Ranges, Putting & Chipping Greens, Practice Bunkers, Resident Golf Pros. Isla Canela also has 2 international standard bowling greens, tennis courts and football training areas. Other nearby courses are: El Rompido, Nuevo Portil and, just across the border in the eastern Algarve: Quinta de Cima and Quinta da Ria.
For the keen golfer the Costa de la Luz, Huelva and the Eastern Algarve are as yet fairly undiscovered when compared to the western Algarve and Costa del Sol. Green fees are lower and the courses less crowded, making it much easier to get a start time. They are also some of best courses in all of Spain.
The beach is very highly rated by kite-surfers and there are fabulous professional kite instructors. Part of the beach is reserved for kite-surfers/ sailors in summer.
