This cottage set off the road in the backwoods along Lake Placid is absolutely charming. It is Adirondack chic in style, using top quality furnishings and appliances. Everything you need is at this cottage, including W&D in the large closet bedroom. (We use VRBO quite a bit and this cottage ranks among the best outfitted) The bed mattress is really comfortable. The bathroom tidy, clean and tiled with natural slate. The kitchen is user friendly for one - a bit tight when you add in a 2nd or open up the DW. Loved the large bar/counter! There is a lovely screened in porch where I had afternoon drinks and snacks. You have a peek view of Lake Placid through the trees and other houses situated in front of you. The cottage is located just outside of Lake Placid, going towards Saranac Lake. My son was in the CANAM hockey camp and it was a breeze dropping him off at the rink from this cottage - took 7 mins using back roads.
I do have a negative and I know it is no fault of the owners. Who by the way, were on site and checked in frequently to make sure things were OK - they were very sweet. There was a house being built right next to this cottage. Dump trucks started arriving at 7:45am dumping fill and building commenced at 8am. Excavators ran on that house site M-F until 4:30pm. The week we were renting, the weather was drizzily, so I was at the cottage a lot. Plus, I wanted to just read and relax sans children. My nerves were frayed listening to that noise for 5 days. Which again, is NOT a fault of the owners. There is nothing they could do to remedy that situation. But I would inquire before renting if the construction is finished. If the construction has completed - rent on folks!
I do feel bad about the construction. It was suppose to have started a year and a half ago. Some weeks they work and some weeks they don't. The house should be finished next spring.
Beautiful property with an excellent location
This Adirondack home is charming and well-located. The kitchen space is ample and nice to use. The screen porch was one of our favorite features! We enjoyed using the canoe and being able to walk to the Moosewood Lodge or Lake Placid Lodge when we didn't feel like cooking.
Great stay very relaxing we will be back
Very clean great location perfect size for is we really enjoyed our stay
A bit of heaven just steps from the lake
Exactly as pictured, this charming cottage is very well-equipped, down to wood laid in the fireplace, ready for lighting. There is everything you could need in the kitchen, washer/dryer, super-comfortable bed, and a sheltered screened-in porch. The best lake view is indeed from the kitchen picture window.
It's an easy drive to downtown Lake Placid village - or west to Saranac Lake - but we loved the tranquility of being right by the shore of Lake Placid. Kayaking on the lake was a highlight of the trip! I'd return in a heartbeat!
Clean, modern amenities with rustic Adirondack styling.
Perfect for a couple, close to hiking trails, tennis and golf as well as a view of the lake from the kitchen picture window. The hosts are clearly professionals based on the way amenities are provided, making it easy to relax and take life easy in the charming Chipmunk Cottage.
