Magical Artist's Home Sleeps 6 in a Rural Medieval Village

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Come soak up the incredible quality of life and spiritual beauty of the unspoiled rural Languedoc Region. Immerse yourself in an environment that feels like a cross between a stage set and a painting by Van Gogh. The history of the area is reflected in the one-of-a-kind paintings, sculptures and mosaic work throughout the house.

A perfect home base for day trips to ancient hill-towns, local vineyards and wine tasting, the Toulouse Lautrec Museum and an extraordinary variety of both upscale and country cuisine.

The village of Soreze, founded on the site of an 8th century abbey is just large enough to support three bakeries, two small markets, a jazz brasserie and two restaurants specializing in local cuisine. Soreze epitomizes the "small is beautiful" model of life, it beckons you to another time and state of mind that leaves you with feelings of bliss and solace.

About The Owner

I am a painter and I have always made my living with my art. My husband is a jazz musician and architect. We have always created interesting environments to include our friends and creative community from around the world.

The Owner purchased this house in 1990

Why The Owner chose Midi-Pyrenees

Soreze was a power spot for me because everywhere I looked there was an amazing painting to be painted. I felt like I was in a postcard village that seemed timeless and extremely inviting to my spirit.

What makes this house unique

This house is within a two hour drive of at least ten of the most beautiful villages in France. It is a perfect home base for any family or group explorations. There is a lake for swimming and sailing, etc less than ten minutes drive from the house. Also Soreze is known for its ancient Abbey and summer cultural events which happen on the Abbey grounds. Anyone loving to hike or ride bikes through the rural French countryside will find this place an amazing spot for a vacation.

Charming and comfortable!

Lovely home in a sleepy village..perfect for visiting local Cathar ruins, enchanting villages and lovely countryside. The artistic decor and local fabrics were warm and comfotable.

I would definitely return...there is so much to discover in this area of the country.

Artist's home in Sorez

  • 5 of 5

Step inside; join a jamboree of colors, textures, light, and mischievousness. You'd think Pan and his hobgoblin friends were in residence and happy to have company. Immediately, we were immersed in the spirit the artist/owner has created and guarded for so many years. The home is both ancient and young; each wall, beam, rail, floor, stairwell, dances with color and energy. The outdoor patio sings effervescently through the throat of its fountain. Its three stories, capped by the top floor gallery, offers a separate stage and experience. Needless to say, the property exceeded our expectations because photos and words can underachieve the true spirit of a place. I do not hesitate recommending this property--a glorious reflection on the enchanting Midi-Pyrennes surroundings--to friends and those who should undertake the privilege of staying here and thus becoming new friends.
