Stunning setting with jaw dropping views. Pool in need of maintenance.
We have just returned from a week at the villa - a fantastic setting up the mountains to the south of Soller. The views from the spacious veranda morning, noon and night were a particular highlight for us. Being able to sip wine overlooking Soller, Fonrnalutx and some of the tallest mountains on the island (could also see the sea!) was a real treat - so peaceful and relaxing. The house is 15 minutes walk (downhill) to the town square but add on another 5 mins or so to walk back up, especially if you have young children and its a hot day. The house itself is very traditional but spotlessly clean. There are 3 really good sized double bedrooms with comfy beds, a nice lounge and dining kitchen. Bathroom good size too with powerful shower. Please note, there is no air conditioning which, as you can imagine, can by a real struggle if temperatures are over 30 degrees. We had 35+ most days during our week which made life a little difficult at night for us and the kids. There were 2 fans in the house which we could move around to suit - absolutely essential in that heat. Plenty of room outside the house, with 2 sizable dining areas, sink and pool area. For us this is where a little work needs to be done. If, like us, having your own pool is one of the main reasons for booking a private villa then its a little disappointing to find the pool (and surrounding seating area) a little on the shabby side. The pool is in dire need of paining with multiple patches where the paint has flaked off. Not the most inviting after a hot day exploring the area. If you're envisioning a shimmering azure blue pool then this is not it. Please note it is all the same depth so maybe not ideal for really little ones. There are 3 loungers (only 1 with cover), a large rattan style seating area (a bit grubby) and 2 bbq's. A smaller gripe, which would be so easy to rectify, is the lack of a brief welcome pack - just something that explains a little about the area - useful recommendations for places to eat, drink and visit - where the supermarket is etc. More importantly, something that explains where the bins go out would help! This is a minor issue however. All in all we had a great holiday in a quirky home set in sensational countryside. The pool the only real let down. The area is fantastic - full of character and beauty. Close to the town and a short drive to the port. Fornalutx, Deia and Valdemossa all within relatively short (and amazing!) drives.
Rustic cottage with stunning views
One of the finest views of the surrounding mountains, Soller and Port Soller. The distant toot of the old tram, the tonk, tonk of sheep bells and, when it is really quiet, the scratch of a fork in one of the gardens below.
The house is a good size witha lovely living room. It is a country cottage, so no air conditioning, and its fake grass around the pool. But these are small complaints. Silke responded quickly to all our questions, and picked us up on arrival and dropped us off at the bus stop on our departure. (If you don't mind a 25 minute hike up from Soller there is no need to hire a care for this holiday) Owner Juan is a real character and we could not have been made more welcome.
Stunning mountain setting close to Soller
We were 3 adults, staying for a week in late September. It was a very comfortable stay, in an amazing mountain setting.
The house is on the back/southern slope of the Soller valley, with a view over the town and to the sea. Stunning scenery, with the mountains all around, and the sound of goats bells in the fields around the house. It feels remote and private, but yet you are only 15 minutes’ walk from the main square and the tram station. You do of course have the steep walk up to the house from town, but it’s fine if you are reasonably fit. We had a hire car, which was not absolutely necessary, but useful for carrying groceries etc up the hill, and trips out of Soller (we went to Deia and Torrent de Pareis). The nearest grocery is around the town centre (i.e. 15 minutes’ walk), and there is a bigger one a bit further away (Eroski). There is space for parking at the house. The streets in Soller are very narrow, so a smaller car is recommended! The tram is available for trips to the port/beach, or you can take a taxi, which is quicker and cheaper.
The house itself has a rustic feel, but is very comfortable: all one 1 floor, with 3 good sized bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 twin), 2 bathrooms (1 big, 1 small). There is a good sized kitchen and living room area. The kitchen is well equipped: cooker, microwave, dishwasher, etc. There were basic cooking ingredients as well (herbs, spices, cooking oil, etc.) There are TVs in the living room and 1 of the bedrooms (not wide/flat screen though), and satellite TV. The house has WIFI/Internet, which was fine.
At the front of the house, there is a sunny patio/terrace garden, with lots of space for relaxing/entertaining. There are several tables and chairs (and loungers), so you can dine al fresco. There is a BBQ, though we did not use it. The pool was the only slight disappointment for us, as it and the area around it could have done with a bit of a spruce up. Apparently there had been a lot of rain prior to our arrival, which contributed to its condition.
Silke the owner was friendly and helpful. She met us in Soller, and we followed her to the house as it is not easy to find. She gave us advice on eating out and things to do and see.
All in all, we had a great stay at the house. Comfortable, serene, with those amazing views, and yet still close to town. Recommended.
Wonderful. Rustic but comfortable getaway
My family and I had a wonderful relaxing holiday at this villa in June. I must admit this hadn't been my first choice as the pictures weren't that exciting. However my expectations were exceeded 1000 times as the current pictures don't do it justice at all. It was perfect for us.
The location is absolutely stunning - you have a view of all of Soller & even can see the sea in the distance. Our only neighbours were just a few sheep & goats so it was really very private & peaceful. It was a wonderful way to relax just hanging out round the house, soaking up the sun & the atmosphere...
The property has a wonderful rustic charm but it is also extremely well equipped, comfortable & spotlessly clean. Particularly loved bathroom with stunning view across the valley. Wifi was handy too so I could send pictures to my friends & make them jealous!
It's extremely convenient as it is a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk from Soller old town. It is quite a steep incline so you do need to be relatively fit - we would walk in & get a taxi back in the evening which worked well for us. The drive through Soller is also via narrow streets but once you get used to it, its fine.
We really felt so at home here....my only complaint was how hard this made it to leave!! I think from now on we will just have to treat it like a second home & come back as often as we can!!!
Thank you very much for this nice coment. Hope to see you again next year so that I can invite you to a bottle of wine. It's very grateful to hear that someone likes the property as much ss we do. Best regards Silke
Just above the village of Soller offers a beautiful church with an impressive view to Fornalutx. On foot you arrive in a pleasant walk to the town square with its picturesque center of the town. On Saturdays you can visit the charming market or catch the famous train to the port with its beach.
