Fun in Fish Creek
We had a great time in Door County and at the Manistique Stone Cottage!
Pros: The house is very spacious and offered the perfect home base for our group of 11 adults. The yard is huge and very private with a great fire pit and lots of room for yard games and music. The two refrigerators were perfect for all of our food and drinks and the kitchen was well equipped. There were lots of places to sleep and get ready for the day. The decorations were cute, the screened in porch was perfect during the brief rainstorms and the kitchen table + patio table provided enough room during our mealtimes. The location is in an ideal location at the half way point between Fish Creek and Ephraim. We regularly camp at Peninsula State Park and loved being close while still having so many comfortable amenities.
Cons: There are only two bathrooms and only one shower (the other has a bath tub), this slowed us down a bit in the morning. Two of the rooms had bunk beds which would be great for kids but weren't ideal for a group of adults (we bumped our heads a couple of times!).
Overall, we all had a wonderful time and definitely hope to be back. Thank you so much for providing such a beautiful place for us to call home for the weekend.
Roomy stone cottage in a great location !
This quaint stone cottage is a great place to stay in Fish Creek. It’s perfect for a family while visiting Door County. So close to everything with easy access to Peninsula State Park. The house was perfect for our family and we really enjoyed the large yard and fire pit. The bedrooms are clean, roomy and comfortable. Three bedrooms are upstairs and one downstairs. The bedroom downstairs had bunk beds and was nice to use as a playroom for the kids - already supplied with books and games. We also enjoyed the large dining room table and screened in porch. The kitchen could use a make over but it was functional and well stocked with dishes and glasses. This house was perfect for us and we enjoyed its quaint charm. Be sure to eat a Julie’s (at the entrance to the park) and rent bikes to enjoy the Sunset bike trail in the park. The beach in the park is nice and there are many activities available in the park for young and old. We spent several days enjoying all that the park has to offer. We loved the pizza from Wild Tomato in Fish Creek - they have a very efficient take-out system. We also enjoyed going to Sister Bay which is a short drive from the house. Sister Bay has a great public beach and playground. Be sure to eat at Al Johnson’s and check out the goats on the roof! They also have an outdoor beer garden with lawn games. Another fun activity we did was take the ferry to Washington Island. The lavender farm on the island is beautiful. We took our car on the ferry but we saw lots of people taking their bikes. Either way it’s a nice way to spend a day. I would definitely rent this house again - the location is perfect!
Not a place to stay if it is hot out.
Make sure you note that there is no air conditioning or ceiling fans, and while it states that there are two showers, there is only one. The downstairs bathroom has a tub, with no shower.
The back yard is nice as is the sun room. The rest of the house is dark, and the kitchen is not very functional. It is small with limited counter space, has minimal lighting, and no dishwasher. As mentioned in the previous review, there is a light dangling on top of the stove with an extension cord that is rather unsafe.
It is an old house and has very few outlets. It also had a musty smell.
The bedroom downstairs with the bunkbeds is large and has a large window. Unfortunately the window has no window covering for the middle section, so it is very bright in the morning and at night the headlights can be seen from Highway 42.
It is very private and is in a good location.
Thank you for your review. We are working on getting air conditioning for the property. The musty smell comes from the dampness we had prior to the hot spell, we are aware and are working on correcting the issue. We are so happy you felt that the location was desirable. We hope you will join us again.
charming but not for everyone
Pros: charming cottage, lots of parking space, great location, very private, big back yard, love the living room, formal dining room, sun room & all the bedrooms. Has a rustic decor which is nice & newer windows to drown out the noise from the busy street. The stones/brick also kept the first floor cool especially since the house doesn't have AC. The 2nd floor was hot though, which made it hard to sleep through the night.
Cons: The 2nd story has wood flooring which was nice, but the first floor had an outdated dark green & black design vinyl color flooring that looked and feels uncomfortable on the feet. Wish the wood flooring from the 2nd floor was also on the first floor too, or at least a newer vinyl flooring. The biggest disappointment was the kitchen. It was out dated and did not have enough counter space to really cook for a group of 12 people. The lighting was also very dim which makes it hard to see your food cooking at night time. There was this light fixture they placed over the stove underneath the hood. It was connected to an extension cord which you would need to plug it into the outlet to turn on, which seem very unsafe because the steam & any heat from cooking would rise up & heat up or steam the cord. We didn't use it and unplugged it. The other issue we had was the 2 toilets on the first floor didn't flush well. Toilet paper would remain in the toilet after a few flushes, or water would rise, and it was not that we clogged the toilet. It happened on the first day we arrived. I was very surprise this toilet issue hasn't been fixed since I read a review about this issue from someone who posted their review in spring of 2017. There were 12 of us, and everyone was afraid to use the 2 toilets on the 1st floor bc we didn't want to deal with flooding the bathrooms. We all had to use the 1 toilet in the 2nd floor which was very convenience and frustrating at times. I did notified the staff, and the staff offered to have someone come take a lot but I declined it because it was just an inconvenience to have someone come over while we were there. Also the fridge inside the home was not cold enough to keep our drinks cold. I tried turning down the temp but didn't work and just left it bc I didn't want to break it.
I didn't mind a rustic house but was expecting updated modern conveniences. I'm not sure if the inconveniences we had to deal with was worth the price we paid for the house, especially the outdated kitchen.
The stony cottage was very cozy and was in a great location for getting around Door County. Loved the back porch for breakfast. A nice backyard pit w/wood available. Management co. brought lawn chairs out ASAP so we could sit by the fire. Only little problems like freezer over iced, downstairs bathtub needs to be a shower and no local tv or cable. Only Netflix and Hulu. (Not a big deal but would have been nice). Much better than staying in a hotel!!! Would definitely rent again.
Thank you David the unfortunate thing is with all the trees in the area we can I get local TV. We've attempted to get a satellite and that's not possible either so the coziness of the cottage and the beautiful Door County is to be maintain the 100% without TV. I do apologize we are grateful you enjoyed your vacation and hope to see you back
Charming, cozy, cottage with great location
We had a great time at this quaint cottage near Fish Creek. Ideally located near Peninsula State Park, Ephraim, and Fish Creek, this large cottage was perfect for our group of 8 adults. We enjoyed placing frisbee, football, and bocce in the giant yard. We had fires in the fire pit and another inside the dining room on a rainy evening. We played games on the porch, and the boys hopped on bike trails right from the cottage.
