About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom (Sleeps 6) Apartment Near Temple Square

Located in the Capitol Hill/Marmalade District, the John Alford house (1868) is close to downtown, art and culture, restaurants, mountains, and is an ideal spot for any traveler / outdoor enthusiast. Only a five minute walk to Temple Square, a one minute walk to the Utah State Capitol building, and very close to the Salt Palace Convention Center, Vivint Smart Home Arena, Salt Lake International Airport, and a number of different ski resorts and hiking trails.

Built in 1868 and completely remodeled in the late 20th century, this home is older than the Salt Lake Capitol Building or the Salt Lake Temple! The home was originally built by John Alford, a British native, convert to Mormonism, and polygamist who migrated to Utah in 1865. This historic neighborhood is home to some of the most iconic and unique homes in Utah.

About Daniela

I grew up in the Czech Republic and moved to the United States when I was 19 years old. After spending my college years here and getting married at a young age, I moved my husband to Ireland for two years before moving back and settling down in Utah. I hope you fall in love with this state as much as I did.

My little family loves the outdoors - we try to spend as much time outside as possible. We have also enjoyed traveling, although our bucket list somehow seems to keep getting bigger.

As both a landlord and an experienced Airbnb traveler, I am a fair host who will try to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

Why Daniela chose Salt Lake City

Built in 1868 and completely remodeled in the late 20th century, this home is older than the Salt Lake Capitol Building or the Salt Lake Temple! The home was originally built by John Alford, a British native, convert to Mormonism, and polygamist who migrated to Utah in 1865. This historic neighborhood is home to some of the most iconic and unique homes in Utah.

What makes this apartment unique

Salt Lake City's Marmalade Hill Historic District was so named because early street names reflected the fruit-bearing plants and trees imported and planted there by its early residents. Marmalade is a small triangular area bounded by 300 North on the south, 500 North on the north, Center Street on the east, and Quince Street, the district's "Main Street", on the west. Settled in the early days of Salt Lake City, the Marmalade District is distinguished from other neighborhoods by steep, narrow, angular streets, mature landscaping and a surprising variety of vintage residential buildings. Within a single one-block area are almost as many styles of architecture as exist in the entire Avenues Historic District. Moreover, many buildings are considered to be among Utah's best examples of certain types of architecture.

Today, the neighborhood stands as a modest, well-preserved, monument to the skill, taste, and resourcefulness of its pioneer inhabitants.

Great minimalistic place close to everything downtonw

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay here. The apartment is very minimalistic but meets all your basic needs. Bathroom is updated, bedding and aparentmsnt were clean.

It was very close to everything we needed (Salt Palace Conventions center), about a 10 minuet walk, which we truly enjoyed making everyday!

There is a perfect little coffee shop across the street.

Owners were quick with responses and very kind!

There is only 1 mirror, so if you have more than 1 girl staying (we had 6) make sure to bring a pocket mirror.

We would definitely stay here again!

We will definitely stay here again!

  • 5 of 5

The space was perfect for our family of five (three teenagers!). We were able to walk to the capitol, downtown area, Temple Square and so much more. It was so nice to park right out front and off the street. It was so comfortable and very clean. It felt like a home away from home.

Great location, budget accommodations

  • 3 of 5

Great location, beautiful neighborhood for walking - close to Temple Square and Capitol building, lots of hills for exercise.

The apartment itself would appeal to students or those on a budget who don't mind an older/musty building and minimal furniture.

Owner's Response: Photos of the building (clearly showing the age of the house) as well as of the furnishing of the apartment are current, and are visible to guests prior to booking. Photos are comprehensive and reflect reality.

Excellent location; comfortable apartment

  • 5 of 5

Daniela was a welcoming and communicative host and the apartment looks exactly as shown. Clean and the beds are comfortable. Location couldn't be better for access to canyon walking/running trail several blocks away, the Utah Capital building, and Temple Square and transit. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how much we enjoyed the every morning 1/2 block walk to Alchemy coffee. Also dined at Em's twice (adjacent to Alchemy coffee) and food and service was great. We walked everywhere and since it was spring time, the flowers and trees (don't miss the cherry trees at the Capital) were in full bloom. Improvement suggestion: a night stand or two next to the beds w/reading lamp would really add to the comfort of the bedrooms. When we come back for our hopefully annual genealogy research trip, we will stay here again!
