Fantastic family friendly quiet farmhouse
The farmhouse was absolutely perfect for our holiday. We had 4 children with us and the house was fully equipped with everything we would need and so it was totally hassle free. The pool was great and the kids loved exploring all the ground. The kitchen was extremely well equipped to cook fabulous meals which we enjoyed under the tree in the garden.
There were lovely markets on over the weekend which we visited to stock up on fresh produce.
Shealagh was there to meet us on arrival and tell us everything we needed to know and has been very attentive to all our questions.
All in all, we all loved it and are definitely looking forward to returning.
Great house, really big with charming open kitchen and fireplaces. Safe fenced pool and huge yard.
This is a really nice location, nothing fancy but very cosy. Great open kitchen, two fridges, gas bbq and huge yard. Here and there a little bit worn and outdated but very very charming and cosy. You can do some running and cycling in the neighbourhood, but that’s about it. Auxerre will take approximately 30 minutes and is nice for a day sightseeing. All in all, nice location for big groups (we were 11 with 5 children) with no activities whatsoever on the agenda. We spent days in a row in the garden and at the pool. The men behind the BBQ. Shealagh and Paul are really nice people, doing their utmost to make your stay as nice as possible. Thank you!
Thank you Stefan for your remarks.
We are always striving to improve facilities in the house, unfortunately things do get worn, tired and broken throughout the season and some of these items will be replaced by next year, especially the sofas !!! as we like to make sure clients are comfortable and happy when staying for their holiday.
A perfect location for a large family holiday in central France
With a family comprising 8 adults and 4 small children we were looking for a property that had real character, sufficient accommodation, a good enclosed pool, plenty of secure grounds and a quiet rural location. The property in St Maurice le Vieil gave us all this and more. As soon as we walked through the door we knew we had made the right choice and, added to that, we had sunshine and temperatures in the 30's all week - what a bonus.
As well as providing loads of space, the house also had plenty of crockery, utensils, cutlery and kitchen equipment so that self-catering was easy. Eating all our meals under the umbrella tree was a delight. Not sure the neighbours would have agreed as the family 'debates' went on well into the night.
The traditional boulangerie and modern supermarket in Aillant were super and within 10 minutes drive so the daily shopping run was easy and made self-catering a pleasure.
Many thanks to Shealagh for her kind attention and her interest in us having a good time. We certainly did and, if you are looking for the same things as us, I cannot recommend the property highly enough. All in all a fabulous week's holiday.
Dear Mike and Rosa,
Thank you so much for your review. We are delighted that you found everything perfect for your family holiday, the weather certainly did help. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family and we sincerely hope that we may have the pleasure of seeing you again in the future, maybe a christmas get together next time!! Mulled wine and log fires instead.
A real home away from home
We stayed at this property for five weeks during July and August 2017. For most of the time we were just me and my wife, but we were joined for days by various members of our family and by the end of our stay both our son and daughter and our five grandchildren joined us. To sum up very briefly - all of us loved the house and the property and whether alone or in company it provided a most wonderful base for our stay in Burgundy.
The house is very big, with many rooms on two floors, a beautiful secluded garden, and a most wonderful swimming pool. The house gives a feeling of a well lived in home. It is full with various furniture and equipment. You will find there all you might think you need, In particular the kitchen is very well equipped with all your cooking and dining needs. Some of the equipment is well used, but if you need something fixed the lovely caretakers Paul and Shealagh will attend to it.
Paul and Shealagh merit a special thanks for being always helpful. discreet and available and for helping with naintaining the pool and taking care of all our needs,
We cannot recoment the house enaugh as a secluded and beautiful base for a wonderful stay in Burgundy. Two small caveats - if you stay for more than a few days, you most certainly will want a car. As in much of rural France, the WiFi and the mobile reception leave much to be desired.
Dear Amos and Ruth
It was a pleasure to meet you both and your family and we are so happy that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us. if there is anything you think we can improve on we will do our best to put this right as we always appreciate client remarks so that we can give the best service that we can. Unfortunately, wifi and mobile service is something we cannot do anything about in rural France although we have always found it reasonably efficient for the country.
Perhaps one day we will have the pleasure of seeing you again .
Shealagh and Paul
Very specious and comfortable house.
We were with a group of 10 persons and had a great stay here. The house is well organised and all amenities are there to support a stay with a large family or group. Communication with Shealeagh was also very nice. All in all a great place to stay during the summer.
What a fabulous place! The house is large and beautiful with wonderful outside seating area and pool
This was such a wonderful place for a holiday for the 11 of us! We really appreciated the large very attractive house with the huge central kitchen area where we could all prepare food together. It was only a step to the lovely outside seating area shaded by an old tree and another step to the large pool which provided hours of fun for all of us - especially the children. The grounds were large and secure for the dog and there were some very attractive walks nearby. Burgundy is full of fascinating places to visit - Auxerre, Chablis, Vezelay and many other gorgeous towns and villages. The market at Toucy is a must. But just hanging around the house was pretty amazing too! Many thanks to Shealagh and Hilary for providing a great place for a holiday.
Thank you William,
It was a pleasure to meet you and all you family and I am so glad that you enjoyed your time at Saint Maurice. The weather this year had been amazingly hot so I am sure the swimming pool wad put to good use.
Perhaps next time a family christmas holiday, a completely different experience with the house decorated for the season.
We hopefully will have the pleasure of seeing you again in the future.
Ideal for a quiet relaxing getaway Paris weekend with a large group of friends or families wishing to be in a central location in France. 20 minutes from the A6 motorway and 20 minutes from Joigny station. Wonderful outdoor market in Toucy Saturday morning only 15 minutes by car.
