About the property

With a dramatic hillside setting, an infinity pool, terraces and spectacular sea

With a dramatic hillside setting, an infinity pool, terraces and spectacular sea views, Villa Valeria is a good choice for small groups or couples looking for privacy and proximity to Cefalu.

The style of the villa is in keeping with traditional Sicilian summer houses, combining classic, solid wood furniture, doors, shutters and beamed ceilings with terracotta tiles, exposed brickwork and pinkish rendered walls. Wrought iron bed frames and wooden cabinets complete the look.

Tiled and decked terraces surround the front of the house, allowing guests a choice of ringside areas to admire the sea views while relaxing or dining. One terrace is an infinity pool with an outdoor shower. Another is a decked terrace entirely dedicated to lying in the sun and admiring the views from sun loungers.

The promise of the sea tempts guests down to nearby beaches, within an easy drive from the villa, as is the beautiful coastal town of Cefalu with its historic centre, shops and restaurants.

Great Location, Poor Kitchen, Internet & Parking

  • 3 of 5

The villa looked amazing on the website and on meeting the rep on the day we had a lot of excitement on the way to the villa.

The drive up the side of the mountain was long and windy, and our Fiat 500L (An awful car!) did have issues at going up the steep hills in anything other than 1st gear. The villa itself is up a very steep side track and then down the other side, equally steep around a hairpin bend and then down another incline. Unbeknownst to us, the parking space outside the villa barely had enough room to do a 3 point turn in any car longer than a hatchback and our 500L had a few inches to spare. After the first day we actually reversed down the hill to the villa.

The location of the villa itself is as the pictures suggest, amazing. It is extremely quiet, very sunny for most of the day and the garden is tended by a gardener, a nice chap. The pool is wonderfully warm and days can be spent just sitting outside admiring the amazing views.

The real let down of the villa however is the kitchen and the appliances inside. First of all the kitchen is tiny, dark and the rings on the cooker are hard to light. There is no oven at all apart from a microwave and a combi microwave in the outhouse! The pots, pans and utensils reminded me of what my mother used in the 1970's, you could pick up a set in the UK in a charity shop for £5 that would have been an improvement. The coffee maker was caked in rust and was unusable.

Finally, the internet worked for half a day out of our week's stay, that meant although not a dealbreaker made it quite hard to organise our trips out around Sicily.

Hopefully the kitchen and internet have been updated/improved since last summer as i believe this villa has the potential to be something amazing.
