About Rosemary Gordon-Davis
John, now sadly deceased, was a lawyer who worked in Rhodesia and Hong Kong before becoming a full-time novelist. Of his 16 books a number have been best-sellers. Australian Rosemary joined him at the finca 1976 and married in 1978 in Hong Kong where they started sailing their 43¨ ketch around the world for many years.
Rosemary Gordon-Davis purchased this Farmhouse in 1973
Why Rosemary Gordon-Davis chose Coín
John needed a European base with access to his publishers in UK and New York, in the sunshine. His requirement was his dream farm with a river running through it. The Andalucian-style architecture of the finca was the icing.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Living a secluded life in the Spanish countryside, whilst having all the facilities of the Costa bright lights when necessary. Plus the rich Spanish historical regions nearby.

Beautiful traditional finca
We had a wonderful time staying at Rosemary's lovely finca. It is quirky and rustic and it has a happy homely feel. The children loved the pool and the gardens as well as the neighbouring cats and dogs. The jacuzzi and bar is a lot of fun and you can tell that there have been many happy times in this home. It is best suited to those who enjoy the unusual. The location is great as it has very easy access to the main roads and it is not a long journey to the coast. We spent some lovely days at Cabopino beach. We also enjoyed walking in the surrounding forrests and the neighbourhood where there are a few bars and restaurants. La Trocha is great for stocking up so that you can relax and enjoy BBQs in the evening. We ate lots of figs from the trees! Thank you Rosemary, hopefully we will return one day
So thrilled you loved your holiday with your gorgeous girls.
Please come back.
Enjoyable stay, but a few issues
Property had plenty of plusses, but was let down by general cleanliness, particularly the kitchen. Mattresses were uncomfortable, and bed linen needed renewing. Directions to find the Finca were confusing, and it was a longer journey into Coin centre than expected. We felt that the property needed TLC.
Beautiful home in a great location
This is a beautiful rustic property just outside Coín, in easy reach of Malaga, Marbella and even Ronda. The house itself is full of period charm - with a beautiful library / sitting room, indoor courtyards, big kitchen and dining room. All the bedrooms have their own bathroom.
It was a charming place to stay with my family for a week, and although a bit dated in places, has everything you need.
The swimming pool and garden are particularly lovely and we spent many hours sitting chatting there.
Thank you for your lovely review. It was a great pleasure meeting you, your friends and family and to know you loved the area.
Lovely, quiet farmhouse - typically Spanish rustic charm.
My partner and I stayed with 4 of our children aged between 10 and 21. The finca was exactly as expected - quiet, ticked away yet only 5 mins from the local supermarket (and only 10 mins from Aldi and Lidl if you prefer). Lovely pool too. Rosemary visited and she was extremely helpful and charming. Importantly, the wifi was more than adequate for between 4 and 6 of us to use our phones / ipads at one time!! Would love to come back again (although we may bring less children next time so we can gain the full benefit of the relaxing atmosphere)!
Rural retreat with rustic charm
Arriving at the finca, down the unmade road, we were greeted with what can only be described as an idyllic property. No wonder it is advertised as a ‘tranquil rural retreat’, it is that and much more.
We did a little sight-seeing but spent far more time in and around the beautiful pool. The property had a rustic charm into which we settled and relaxed.
The owner was easy to contact and extremely friendly. All in all, one of our best holidays.
Thank you so much for this lovely review. Best wishes, Rosemary
Authentic and enchanting home
My self and a group of friends are just back from a brilliant week at Finca la Palmera. We knew from the photos that the place looked great, but when we arrived we were delighted to find the house even nicer than we had hoped for!
I was so excited and delighted when we pulled up to park in the court yard, to catch a glimpse through the grape laden vines of what was to come; a really authentic feeling spanish home, not just some new build house. The trees around the house were laden down with fruit, we ate, figs, grapes and walnuts that we collected from the garden! The inside of the house was just beautiful, really well equipped and homey feeling. We enjoyed several evenings in the jacuzzi bar area when it got too cool to sit outside anymore. The bedrooms were all beautiful and everywhere in the house was spotlessly clean.
We were a group of 6, and we easily could have had another 2 adults and the house would still have been spacious. There are loads of corners to be by your self for a while if you want to.
Rural Spain inland from the Costa del Sol offers tranquillity away from the tourist haunts, but only 25 minutes drive away. It is also cheaper than the coast.
The town centre with variety of bars/restaurants and supermarkets, plus all commerce is 10 minutes from the finca.
