About Sarah Stalker
We were a family of 5 and we relocated to Spain in 2013 to experience something different. The children have attend a local school in Palamos and have become fluent in both Catalan and Spanish. We love the area and all it has to offer and for 9 months of the year this is our home so we hope you enjoy your stay in our villa and feel that you are part of our family.
Sarah Stalker purchased this Villa in 2006
Why Sarah Stalker chose El Baix Empordà
The villa was originally built as our holiday home. We fell in love with the views, beaches, mountains and cities all within easy access of Calonge. As we bought the property off plan we had an opportunity to design the villa to our liking and we opted for an open plan kitchen/dining room/lounge with easy access through patio doors to outside. We have one bedroom with en-suite located on the ground floor with 3 bedrooms upstairs & 2 bathrooms upstairs.
What makes this Villa unique
The Villa has two short flights of stairs leading down from parking area to the front door. The villa's unique benefits include the swimming pool which is located on the same level as the kitchen/dining room and lounge so you can see young children playing at all times. The layout of the villa, garden & pool area was specifically designed for families with young children in mind. We feel this is a really important and from our experience we know that there are very few villas in this area that are in an elevated position that have this aspect in mind. The lower part of the garden is flat, with a grassed lawn so provides an idea play area for the children and sun bathing area for the adults. The under cover al-fresco area next to the kitchen houses an large BBQ which is perfect for entertaining.

Both Andrea and I had a relaxing and chilled out time at Villa Zara .We also enjoyed the area .
We had no problems or issues and would return again.
Thank you Joe and Andrea for your five star review, we are happy to hear that you had a good time relaxing and discovering the area. Glad the villa lived up to all your expectations and your two little dogs enjoyed the garden, its great to be able to take your loved ones with you on holiday! Hope you return next year
A tired property in need of some investment. Should be avoided by anyone disabled.
This has the potential to be a lovely villa but needs some investment and maintenance. It also needs a less fanciful description to start with." Sea views" are only available at an acute angle from a couple of upstairs windows! There are no "sea views" from the lower part of the property. "Located close to the village" is true by car but you wouldn't want to walk it due to the distance and the significant hill!! The house is situated down a steep flight of steps from the car parking (approx. 45 steps to reach the ground floor) of which there is no mention in the description. The property is attractive but is poorly maintained with only a couple of internal doors closing properly. When the outside doors or windows are open there is continuous banging of internal doors. We asked for some wedges which weren't provided so we made some out of corks. The only bedroom door that did shut had no handle on the inside so if shut you couldn't get out!! The kitchen appliances all work OK but there is no "ice maker" and the fridge freezer which is only barely big enough for 4 people had a broken bottom shelf and no vegetable tray, limiting storage. The freezer part only had two storage shelves deep enough for a few bags of ice. This villa sleeps 8 and needs a much bigger fridge freezer. The downstairs bathroom had lights ove the mirror but only 1 of 3 worked. Outside there are 6 sunbeds all of which have seen better days. Two are attached to a metal fence by a short chain so cannot be moved. This means that you cook on the right as the sun moves around the back of your head and then you can do your left side. The "well kept gardens" are just that when you arrive but after 2 weeks the lawn is a foot high and the garden is generally scruffy. The gardeners are programmed fortnightly and spend ALL of your penultimate morning with trimmers, blowers and mowers making it nice for the next resident. Had we been told this we'd have gone out but instead lost half a day of family pool fun.
All of these issue were raised with Bravacare and the owner without resolution. They did ask if they could replace the broken fridge freezer with 2 days of our holiday remaining but that would have left us with no cold drinks, food , etc. I do have photographs to substantiate my comments.
To summarise this has the potential to be a lovely villa but it needs some investment to bring it up to standard. It is certainly not worth the current rates being charged.
I am sorry that you were disappointed with your stay at Vila Zara.
I’ve had many guests who have really enjoyed their stay and have returned the following year.
Bravacare, my management company, reported that you all enjoyed the pool and it was kept in good condition for your visit.
Calonge village is approximately a 10-15 minute walk into the centre from the villa. There are 2 routes, one down through the urbanisation to the main road or the second & shorter route is past the water tower and along a more rural quieter road.
The house is situated on a hill and there are 25 steps down to the front door, which are clearly shown on the photographs.
Internally there is a normal staircase leading to the downstairs or you can take the alternative route around the side of the house via 12 more steps.
The internal doors have been checked over and the broken handle has been repaired.
As the villa is on a hill it can get quite windy in the afternoon. Guests allow the doors to bang and this therefore breaks the handles over time, which is what had happened this summertime.
Door wedges have been lost/misplaced but I will endeavour to replace all with new wedges for future guests.
There has been a brand new family fridge/freezer installed which was offered to you on the 2nd day of your stay but you wished not to be disturbed.
This has now been installed ready for any future visitors.
If the family fridge is full then bottles of water & drinking cans can always be left to cool in the separate drink’s fridge.
The lights have all been checked and all bulbs are working. There is a drawer in the dining room sideboard which is full of spare bulbs & batteries for this occasion. No one likes a dark bathroom.
I apologise if the gardener’s arrived unexpectantly. The garden is maintained every 2 weeks for just under 2 hours each visit and I sorry for the noise of the blowers & lawn mowers. The gardeners are very discreet and if asked, are willing to return at a more convenient time.
Superb , absolutely brilliant. Enjoyed by all.
Thank you Julie & Guests for your summary of your recent holiday this June at Vila Zara, we are delighted you had a great holiday and hope you plan to return again , Sarah & family
Had an amazing family holiday at Villa Zara this Easter! The Villa itself was beautiful and has everything you possibly need for a relaxing stay and the views are breathtaking, we will definitely be returning again. Sarah was so helpful prior to our stay, answering all queries and Joan was on hand during the holiday and nothing was too much trouble.
Thank you and look forward to booking again soon!

Lovely Vila, Super Clean, Beautiful Surroundings!
I had the pleasure of staying at Vila Zara which was a short stay but full worth my while. We were blessed with lovely weather, and the house was a lovely place to disconnect and relax for a few days, the town near by Calonge is a beautiful Catalan town walkable from the house. The food and the surroundings were lovely, my fiancé and I would love to visit again!
Thank you for taking the time to write a review after your short stay at Vila Zara. Even a few days away can feel much longer when you are in a new area and relaxing.
I am glad the house was comfortable and you would love to visit again to explore more of the local area.
Stayed here for a week with my partner pre Christmas treat..and what a treat!
Spectacular views from the terrace, kitchen well equipped. Beds extremely comfortable and warm with feather duvets.
The local areas of Platja d’Aro, Begur and Palamos had a lovely friendly atmosphere, lots of shops and gorgeous food to sample in the cafés and restaurants.
Will Definitely be back.
Can thoroughly recommend a stay here.
Thank you Katy & Peter for selecting Vila Zara, Calonge, for your pre-Christmas get-away. So glad you enjoyed your stay and found the villa relaxing and comfortable and you enjoyed the local areas around Calonge. Look forward to your return visit.
The medieval village of Calonge is situated inland and is twinned with the coastal town of Sant Antoni with its excellent beach and rugged landscape. Beaches vary from long sandy bays to small sheltered coves, such as Calella de Palafrugell, Tamariu and Llafranc. Water sports, horse-riding and tennis can be enjoyed in the area and there are good golf courses all within driving distance. There are also excellent restaurants to be found locally offering a selection of fresh fish and meat dishes and a variety of good wines and sparkling cavas to accompany any meal. The larger towns of Palamos and Platja d'Aro with their wonderful shopping facilities and night life are within ten minutes drive away. There are several supermarkets in the area with one local supermarket providing fresh bread baked daily, fresh meat and a delicatessen counter only 5 minutes drive away. There is also a weekly market in Calonge where you can buy all your fresh fruit and vegetables.
