About Daphne Libby
Sunny Bank Mill is owned by a group of friends who are now dispersed throughout England. We are all passionate about the Lake District and particularly the Sunny Bank area and Coniston Water. We regularly come and stay at Sunny Bank ourselves and so we put a lot of thought and effort into equipping it with everything you could possibly need and ensuring that it is in excellent condition for our guests.
Why Daphne Libby chose Coniston
We have owned the next door property Sunny Bank Farm for about 20 years and when the chance came to buy the Mill we couldn't resist. During 2014 we completed a major plumbing and heating refurbishment and redesigned some of the interior layouts to make much better use of the space. We love staying at the Mill ourselves and are always looking for ways to make it even better.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Exceptionally well equipped house in an idyllic situation.
4 generations of the Green family had a marvellous holiday in this lovely spacious house. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful property with us. The Green family from Carlisle, Skipton, Northwich, London and Barbados.
Sunny Bank Mill
Thank you for a lovely stay. The house is set in gorgeous grounds right next to a babbling brook and on the edge of Coniston water.
The house was fully equipped and welcoming, and provided everything we could need. The boats were a particular highlight and we loved paddling around the water and visiting the nearby island and shores
So glad you had such a good time, I hope you will be back soon!
Absolutely beautiful. The house was lovely well equipped, very cosy at night with the log fire lit. The grandchildren loved the boats as did the adults. Would definately go back again.x
A beautiful house in a stunning location on lake Coniston.
This is without doubt the best house we have ever rented. Beautifully furnished and very well appointed. We brought all the family for my 70th birthday, ages ranging from 6 weeks upwards plus our two Weimaraners. The children loved walking through the paddock and plantation to the lakeside to paddle, and with many interesting locations to visit in the surrounding area we had the perfect weekend.
So glad you had such a good time - I do hope you'll find an excuse to come back!
Friends reunion in a great location.
Second trip to Sunny Bank Mill. A few improvements to house from 2 years ago made it even more comfortable. Very. Well equipped for the number of guests it can accommodate. The double/twin rooms are ideal for us as a party of couples. Plenty to do in the area outdoors and when the weather deteriorated at the end of the week a variety of interesting museums/ houses were visited. Couple of good pubs in Torver and more a little further away in Coniston. An excellent week.
Thanks so much for a great review. I hope you'll return again soon - we try to make some improvements every year!
The perfect holiday home
Sunny Bank Mill is a complete delight. It was like a home from home (only grander!).11 adults and two little children had a blissful time. The Beck to one side and the lake on the other!
There was plenty of space so we all felt completely relaxed. Not only is this a huge house but there is an enormous summerhouse (great for post-walk relaxation in the afternoons) and a short, delightful stroll takes you down to Coniston Water. We hired the boats and life jackets and spent a great deal of time out Paddling and visiting ‘Wild Cat Island’.
The house is superbly equipped from the comfy beds, splendid bathrooms, a huge and cosy living room with an extra ‘snug’ in which to chill. The kitchen had everything we needed including 2 fridges, freezer (which made ice!) and dish washer. The dining area has a huge table seating 14 and 2 highchairs are provided.
As well as a roomy porch for shoes and coats, upstairs there is a utility area with washing machine, tumble dryer, drying racks and boot racks. Very few Lake District properties think about wet walkers, but here you are catered for. Excellent.
I’d like to thank Daphne for being such a great host - contacting us midweek to tell us about events in the area.
I can’t recommend the house highly enough. It’s fabulous.
So glad you had such a great week, and hope you'll be back soon!
Sunny Bank Mill is 4 miles from Coniston, a small but busy typical Lakeland town, and just three-quarters of a mile from Torver, where the pub serves excellent food. Popular tourist centres such as Ambleside, Grasmere and Hawkshead are about half an hour away by car. The Cumbria Way passes close by and there are many local walks on Torver Common or along the lakeshore up to Coniston. Sunny Bank Mill is an ideal location for mountain walking, boating, swimming, sailing and other water-based activities.
