Originally built in 1917 and one of the first cottages on the lake, the structure of this house has been renovated over the years, but still maintains its simplistic charm. Waking up in the morning to the sounds of waves, a view of the sun sparkling on the lake on one side, and lush, green woods on the other, it is the ultimate destination away from technology. It is a complete vacation getaway with its own small beach, a dock and fire pit. The option of renting addition space in a brand new pole barn apartment is also available. This second living space is directly behind the main cottage and has views of the lake, it has two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchenette while being able to sleep an additional 7 guests for another $200 per night.
For those new to Elk Lake, there are opportunities for boating, fishing and adventuring. We have a mooring directly in front of the cottage for those who want to bring their boat. There is a boat launch a short drive from the property, and rentals are available from multiple vendors.
A relaxing hour long boat ride up Torch River is optimal for those who want to spend the day on the Famous Torch Lake sandbar, renowned for its fun and friendly atmosphere. Less boat traffic on Elk Lake, means its the more serene of the two lakes. Other great trips by water include Elk Rapids, a great place for shopping and restaurants, or White Water Park, a public area directly across the lake that maintains a small stretch of beach, a playground, volley ball pit and a boat launch.
Being on the eastern shore means we have some of the most beautiful sunsets in Northern Michigan, so remember to bring a camera! We are only 7 minutes from Turtle Creek Casino, 20 minutes to Traverse City, and 30 minutes from the vineyards on Old Mission Penninsula.
