Guests of South Kohala Management will be granted an access card to the Mauna Lani Beach Club, a private resort beach club with some of the best snorkeling on the island! Privileges include use of the lounge chairs, umbrellas, private parking and showering facilities. The Shops at Mauna Lani is just a short drive from the Fairways where you can find a grocery store, coffee shop, boutique shops and various restaurants.

management company needs to improve

we overall had very nice stay! we love to come to Big island, and will be back, but not to the unit with South Koala Management

pluses: spacious for 4 adults and a baby, very well appointed kitchen, very nice pool never crowded, lush green well kept surroundings, nice lanai to eat breakfast at, access to a baby friendly beach club

pretty good location close to the shops and Fairmount

minuses: lack of cleaning (we found that cleaners left half drank drink left behind, and master bathroom most probably was not finished) and even worse, management company did not care that much (I contacted them right away and after we returned home - no response)

garage very small, no remote, not cleaned at all, very little beach gear, we did park our van in it to shelter from sun, however just so, we all had to get out before parking it

lanai: no shade in the afternoon, no umbrella or some other means of shading, as our granddaughter wanted to play there;

air conditioning unit extremely loud just outside of lanai, to make thinks worse next door unit also in front of lanai;

nothing provided for our baby even thou we asked by email upfront - a passerby neighbour asked us about copious baby gear left in front of the unit about 2 weeks prior(!) so we are assuming that other renters got some and cleaning staff just removed it (needless to say he salvaged it and donated)

we will rent another place this year

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I would like to point out that you were advised there was no access to the garage as owners will leave some of their personal belongings in there. This is why you were not given a garage door remote. We are also not responsible to clean the garage as it is the responsibility of the owner. You were also advised at the time of booking, that we do not provide beach gear or baby equipment in our units but that these items could be rented through an outside rental company and as far as the items left outside prior to your arrival, they were items rented by a previous guest that were being picked up by the rental company that day. The lanai of the units are covered, however, depending on the time of day, the lanai will start to lost it's shade as the sun starts to set. There are six units in each building so you will always have a unit on one or both sides of you. It is unfortunate that you did not enjoy every aspect of the unit or your vacation but we do hope that we will have the opportunity in the future to help you find a property that will better suit the needs of you and your family.

perfect for one couple

This condo is a corner unit in the Fairways group of condominiums. It is in a quiet area with a view of the golf course and distant palm trees silhouetted against the sky; it is set back from this view, which is not as good as its neighbors enjoy in the same condo group, and I think the "Best Views" of the property title is a little overblown. The outdoor patio has a gas grill, like the other units, and a dining table and two lounge chairs, and we ate outside quite a bit. Because of the patio orientation, however, there is no place to sit in the shade in the late afternoons in February and March, a disadvantage, and the air conditioning compressors from this and the adjacent unit are very noisy when one is sitting outdoors. The master bedroom has thin, difficult to draw, curtains. There are large closets (containing plenty of hangars but only one, sashless bathrobe), There is a good kitchen with all the appliances and utensils one might need. the master bathroom is large, although one of the two sinks wasn't working when we were there; this will certainly be an easy to fix issue. In the garage were two portable beach chairs, but that was about all in terms of extras. Considering everything, we had a very good stay here. the unit is the right size for a single couple, although there is a second downstairs bedroom and small bath. We could sacrifice the view for this unit's lower rental fee compared with the larger condos in the area. The South Kohala realty who managed the property were responsive and friendly. We stayed last year in an adjacent unit, and liked the area and this unit enough that we have rented it again for next year, shortcomings and all! This is a beautiful area of the Big Island. the condo comes with free access to the Mauna Lani Beach club, a lovely area to sit, swim, snorkel, and whale-watch. There is a well-stocked grocery store and restaurants a half mile away, and wonderful beaches and restaurants within a half-hour drive. We especially liked Merriman's and the Red Water Cafe in Waimea, The Blue Dragon and the Plantation Grill in the Kawaihae Harbor area, and the local Monstera for sushi and noodles.

We had a wonderful, short stay at this gorgeous unit. Had everything we needed and plenty of room. It IS quite a ways to the beach club, although I walked back from there one day - good exercise and a nice walk. Could not have been easier to check in, etc., even though we arrived "after hours". Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Close to the shops at Mauna Lani, but beware that the grocery there is small and expensive, as is the norm in Hawaii, it seems. If you'll be making a trip into Kona anyway, stock up at Target or whatever while in town. Thanks so much for letting us use your condo - wish we were there right now!!
