Enjoyed our holiday. Party ages ranged from 11 yrs to 77 yrs. Rural, peaceful, beautiful setting. Large pool which was cleaned every other day. Plenty of shade, needed as temperatures reached late 30’s. Villa lovely and clean.
Joseph and family
The place is in a beautiful area and just what you need when trying to get away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives. The morning stillness is as welcome as the fresh air. We had a week of uninterrupted sunshine so there was very little time spent indoors and when inside we tended to congregate around the dining room table playing cards, where the chairs were not as comfortable as they could be. Not that much of a problem though.
Encarni is a charming host and leaves you to get on with it although she is always close by if needed.
The only problem of any significance was the drive up to the main road. We had a rental that was severely short on oomph and it made the ascent an adventure. Once that was mastered the rest was plain sailing.
The impromptu Friday night sing along at the restaurant was also a welcome addition to the week, as was the sherry from the restaurant opposite the Natural Park.
There is evidence everywhere that Encarni is continuously making improvements to the property, one of which I would suggest is the addition of cushions for the sun loungers.
Would we come back again? Absolutely!
Beautiful location, nice hosts villa needs some TLC.
First impressions of the villa was great. The location was gorgeous and picturesque. Very peaceful setting, just what we wanted. The villa itself needs some attention due to its heavy use. The fly Screens are all broken and wasps were a major issue - admittedly we did not report this to the owners but have noted it was mentioned in previous reviews. The pool was a good size and provided ample space. As a point of note however, my youngest daughter is small (9yrs) and could not stand up in the shallow end. It did however bring on her swimming!! We did have to top the pool up daily with the hose provided due to a possible leak?!? There was a good sized shaded area outside the villa to provide cover in the sunshine. We had an issue with the toilet and reported this in person on Tuesday. It wasn’t until a follow up email on Thursday that led to the toilet being fixed late on Friday evening. The shower lacked pressure, this is probably due to location more than anything else though. The people who own the villa run an amazing bar nearby that serves amazing local food. They were very friendly and welcoming despite the language barrier. We did have a welcome package of wine, tea and coffee on arrival at the villa.
Whilst I’ve listed a number of issues I believe that this is purely down to the lack of time required to remedy them.
Thanks for your comments and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Just to say the fly screens have been replaced. The local water is high in Calcium which blocks the shower heads and toilet filters from time to time. These have since been cleaned or replaced. Also, there is a large shaded area ( not yet photographed) next to the villa and pool entrance providing much needed shade in this very sunny location. Encarne would like to apologize, again, for the unusually slow response which was simply because the nearby bar/restaurant which the family owns & works in was very busy in August. El Molino is a must visit as the food and vino is excellent & the welcome always warm...5 minutes drive or 20 minutes walk.
A great villa tucked away in the Andalucian hills. We were there in March / April so was a bit chilly in the evenings. Heaters were provided and plenty of wood for the open fire. Daytimes were warmer and we even braved a dip in the pool. Comares is only a short (if steep) walk away, with a couple of reasonable restaurants. There's a small supermarket in the town. You're not going to come here for the action, this is a place to really unwind, relax and chill out. There's wifi to get connected when you are not enjoying the peace, tranquillity and views over the hills. Malaga is an hour away; trips to Ronda and Granada are easy (although beware attempting to take the "scenic" routes following google maps, very scenic but we found ourselves on tracks that were little more than crumbling paths cut into the hillsides...)
The villa is well equipped (there are mugs, and too many egg cups!), it is clean and spacious. The road down to it is a steep track, but ignore the comment from the previous grumpy reviewer who complained it's like a Land Rover course, we were in a small hatchback and it was no trouble.
Thank you for your comments and information. La Cruz is situated perfectly to either relax and enjoy the local environment or to use as a central Andalusian base to explore this beautiful part of Spain. Hope you will visit Comares again.
Fabulous Rural Retreat
We have just returned from a 3 month winter break at Villa La Cruz and would highly recommend it to to anyone looking relax, unwind and chill out.
Yes the villa is rural and the road to Los Ventorros and the track down to the Villa is challenging but it is more than worth it for the beautiful setting the spectacular views and the tranquility.
The villa is very private not overlooked and the only sounds you will hear are the sounds of the bells on the mountain goats in the valley below and "OTI" the resident donkey!
The villa is extremely well equipped for 8 people with high quality appliances with lots of crockery, glassware etc.
The pool is the gem of this villa lots of space with far reaching spectacular views of the mountains , olive groves and the surrounding area from every angle.
Restaurant El Molino is a five minute drive away where you will be warmly welcomed by Antonio Encarni and family and experience the local spanish cuisine, we highly recommend the Gambas Pils Pils.
The owners and management team are on hand 24/7 by e mail or by phone and any problems or issues that we had were dealt with efficiently within an hour so, we couldnt have asked for better service.
In conclusion if you want a relaxing , laid back and peaceful holiday this is the villa for you.
We are already looking forward to our return later this year.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and your kind comments. We hope you will visit Villa La Cruz again.
a let down
having stayed in 50+ villas this was only the second we disliked. Poorly equipped, just one tea mug! not a single egg cup. no instructions on how to use anything. the iron leaked water (a real hazard) .the drive from the road would have put the Land Rover test ground to shame. it was not possible to eat outside as there were hundreds of wasps. then the lack of any shade untill 4.30 was a real no no.one shower dribbled water, the other was not able to be fixed on the wall (this i repaired with a tube of glue) you only get local tv. so take lots of books. if none of the above worries you then book it, the air is fresh up there.
Guests of all ages are welcomed personally on arrival by the owner Encarne & this couple of 71 and 73 years of age were no exception. During their stay of 9 nights these guests made no contact with Encarne, Ant or Carl ( available in person, by phone or online) to say they were unhappy about anything at the villa. Our customer service is high but we cannot put right any shortfalls if we only receive a complaint via a very disappointing review after the guests have left. Our comments:
There were 3 mugs as well as 6 English tea cup & saucer sets, 8 coffee cups and over 30 assorted glasses. No eggcups. Apologies, there are now 6. Unbeknown to Encarne the iron was broken. Apologies. A new one now provided within one hour. There are 3 sunshades & bases! Both showers work perfectly. Land Rover drivers need not get excited; the owners both own VW Golfs and drive to the villa all year. A TV, music system, DVD and WiFi is provided.
Yes, there is fresh air in the countryside! This review is at best unfair and unbalanced & at worse not factual. Villa is as described & reviewed by all other guests. May not be suitable for Victor Meldrew.
You can visit Comares village. Take one of the many country walks, leaflets available at the tourist office.
The Comares feria is at the end of August. Well attended, paella and local wine.
