El Zalate house is set within an oasis of tropical vegetation one block away from Ajijic's lakefront walkway (malecon). It is set in a calm, relaxing garden environment and you will love the experience of staying in an authentic traditional Mexican village house with lots of space and gardens.
The plaza is a 12 min walk and five small grocery stores are within a minute walk, nice to forget about your car in days!
El Zalate house was built in Ajijic by American writer Neill James in the 1950s as a retreat by the lakeside for expat artists set within an oasis of palm trees and tropical gardens. This oasis has been preserved till today for you to relax and enjoy its calmness and terrific garden and mountain views.
Lie down on a lounger chair or a hammock and relax at its fantastic terrace and 800 sqm (8600sqft) of tropical gardens and trees.
The house is all on one level, with a fireplaces, indoor dining area, kitchen, living area, terrace, one bathroom and two bedrooms organized as follows:
- Master bedroom 1 (king size bed)
- Bedroom 2 (double bed and bunker bed)
The house is one block from the quiet part of the Malecon (lakeside walkway), very close to local shops and 12 min walk to Ajijic Plaza. We have two parking spaces within the property.
We also rent a separate studio (casita) that can be booked together with the Zalate house, adding space for two more people and one full bathroom.
