About the property

Guest House in quiet single-family neighborhood, on a secluded cul-de-sac. Beautiful Wood Floors, Custom Built-In Desk, lots of Storage. Beaches, Shopping Malls, Balboa Park, and Sea World all near. Full-size Fully-Stocked Kitchen & Bathroom. New Queen-size memory foam bed & Full Sofa Bed! Central Heat & A/C, High-Speed Internet, Cable TV. Full-Size Washer/Dryer as well. All utilities Included!

Private entrance guest house / granny flat behind our home is a quiet residential neighborhood.

Very large, light & airy, 750 square feet. Also, a nice built-in desk/counter area overlooking a beautiful orange tree. The perfect location that allows you very quick access to all of San Diego must-see destinations, but in a quiet residential setting, away from the hustle and bustle of these sites.

There is one new memory foam Queen-Size Bed in the bedroom area (not fully enclosed so as to allow a view from the living room), and a full-size, comfortable sofa sleeper - a high-end Ikea couch purchased in Germany and a memory foam topper (purchased at Costco) - without the painful metal bar that plagues most sofa beds. The couch/sleeper is in the living room.

This upstairs, private-entrance guesthouse apartment is a totally separate living quarters from our main home. You'll have your own living room, dining area, bedroom area, fully-equipped kitchen (just remodeled with beautiful quartz counter tops), bathroom (also new quartz counter tops), and deck. Feel free to pick all the oranges you can use, right outside your door.

About Michael Appelman

We love to travel, but prefer to stay at our destinations for longer periods of time, preferably two to three months. The era of VRBO has allowed us the opportunity to rent out our residence and our one-bedroom apartment, funding our somewhat extravagant pastime. We much prefer staying in a vacation rental to a hotel, and meeting our hosts is oftentimes a highlight at each destination. We realize every traveler is unique, with their own unique needs and desires, but we make ourselves available for as much input as each guest desires. Having lived in San Diego for 50+ years provides us with a pretty substantial knowledge base of where to go, when to go, and the all-important why to go. We're here to help, so don't hesitate to ask.

Why Michael Appelman chose Birdland

We are just taking over the management of our properties, and unfortunately prior reviews do not transfer over. However, I would note that most of our guests have been longer stays, from a month or two up to our current guest, who has been with us for about six months. We can honestly say we have enjoyed all of our guests, and we believe these feelings have been mutual. We do allow for shorter stays, with a minimum of three days, so feel free to "check us out" for a few days and book a longer stay when the desire to return to San Diego strikes again.

What makes this apartment unique

Our home is minutes away from virtually everywhere you might want to visit in San Diego, yet you avoid the bustle and noise oftentimes associated with tourist sites. Tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac in the Birdland neighborhood, you have the best of both worlds: Solitude and Proximity.

Delightful, centrally located and quiet!

  • 5 of 5

My stay here was exactly what I was hoping for. The hosts were friendly and accommodating, the house was bright, clean cheery, close to all major freeways and centrally located. I could not have found a more suitable rental for the price and location. This will be my go-to spot for vacationing in the this area!

Great place, close to everything, safe neighborhood, very clean, pet friendly, only thing I would add to it is a blow dryer.

Comfortable for a small family

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay here with our 2yo and 5yo. It's all one room with no internal door except on the bathroom, which worked fine for us. Friendly, helpful owner and an unexpected bonus: a tree with delicious oranges just outside!

Great location

  • 4 of 5

This location was spotless and sparkling clean. Everything you need was provided and would maybe suggest providing some beach equipment, Shower was great and tons of storage. Probably not the best choice for seniors or the disabled. Lots of care went into this place, beautifully decorated and maintained, Would use again Thanks, Michael.

Owner's Response: Darn! Our string of two-plus years of five-star reviews has finally been snapped. We would just say it is unfortunate we lost a star because the guest indicates this unit may not be suitable for handicapped individuals, as this is an upstairs unit. We would note that in our description we specifically indicate this is upstairs and we do not have an elevator. A more careful reading of our property description may well have helped our guests in locating a home that better suited their needs. Nonetheless, they were terrific guests, pleasant and quiet, and I would recommend them to you if your home is suitable for their needs.

Very nice property and good location

I recommend the location for a good stay in San Diego. The birds singing in the morning was an added perk.

Everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We moved from Illinois to San Diego in early January. We needed a temporary place to stay while we found a new permanent residence, and we sold or got rid of a lot of our stuff rather than move it with us. This apartment had everything we needed to live for the first 3 months in town. Tons of closet/storage space for some of the items we did bring, plenty of kitchen goods for cooking, washer/dryer, close proximity to conveniences, and more. The area was safe and quiet, but had easy access to get the freeways. In terms of being able to make it a home, it was perfect. Clean, bright, and airy just as the description says!

Michael and his wife were more than welcoming and accommodating. Michael really helped us in so many ways. Not knowing anyone in San Diego, but having him as a resource made the move so much easier. We were so lucky to have decided on renting this place. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a central location in San Diego.

Owner's Response: When someone books your apartment for three months, you tend to wonder: Will they be great guests? Well, Jen and her husband Justin were wonderful guests in every way. We hated to see them leave. If you ever have the opportunity to host them, don't hesitate.
