Private entrance guest house / granny flat behind our home is a quiet residential neighborhood.
Very large, light & airy, 750 square feet. Also, a nice built-in desk/counter area overlooking a beautiful orange tree. The perfect location that allows you very quick access to all of San Diego must-see destinations, but in a quiet residential setting, away from the hustle and bustle of these sites.
There is one new memory foam Queen-Size Bed in the bedroom area (not fully enclosed so as to allow a view from the living room), and a full-size, comfortable sofa sleeper - a high-end Ikea couch purchased in Germany and a memory foam topper (purchased at Costco) - without the painful metal bar that plagues most sofa beds. The couch/sleeper is in the living room.
This upstairs, private-entrance guesthouse apartment is a totally separate living quarters from our main home. You'll have your own living room, dining area, bedroom area, fully-equipped kitchen (just remodeled with beautiful quartz counter tops), bathroom (also new quartz counter tops), and deck. Feel free to pick all the oranges you can use, right outside your door.

About Michael Appelman
We love to travel, but prefer to stay at our destinations for longer periods of time, preferably two to three months. The era of VRBO has allowed us the opportunity to rent out our residence and our one-bedroom apartment, funding our somewhat extravagant pastime. We much prefer staying in a vacation rental to a hotel, and meeting our hosts is oftentimes a highlight at each destination. We realize every traveler is unique, with their own unique needs and desires, but we make ourselves available for as much input as each guest desires. Having lived in San Diego for 50+ years provides us with a pretty substantial knowledge base of where to go, when to go, and the all-important why to go. We're here to help, so don't hesitate to ask.
Why Michael Appelman chose Linda Vista
We are just taking over the management of our properties, and unfortunately prior reviews do not transfer over. However, I would note that most of our guests have been longer stays, from a month or two up to our current guest, who has been with us for about six months. We can honestly say we have enjoyed all of our guests, and we believe these feelings have been mutual. We do allow for shorter stays, with a minimum of three days, so feel free to "check us out" for a few days and book a longer stay when the desire to return to San Diego strikes again.
What makes this Apartment unique
Our home is minutes away from virtually everywhere you might want to visit in San Diego, yet you avoid the bustle and noise oftentimes associated with tourist sites. Tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac in the Birdland neighborhood, you have the best of both worlds: Solitude and Proximity.

Everything we needed!
We moved from Illinois to San Diego in early January. We needed a temporary place to stay while we found a new permanent residence, and we sold or got rid of a lot of our stuff rather than move it with us. This apartment had everything we needed to live for the first 3 months in town. Tons of closet/storage space for some of the items we did bring, plenty of kitchen goods for cooking, washer/dryer, close proximity to conveniences, and more. The area was safe and quiet, but had easy access to get the freeways. In terms of being able to make it a home, it was perfect. Clean, bright, and airy just as the description says!
Michael and his wife were more than welcoming and accommodating. Michael really helped us in so many ways. Not knowing anyone in San Diego, but having him as a resource made the move so much easier. We were so lucky to have decided on renting this place. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a central location in San Diego.
When someone books your apartment for three months, you tend to wonder: Will they be great guests? Well, Jen and her husband Justin were wonderful guests in every way. We hated to see them leave. If you ever have the opportunity to host them, don't hesitate.
It was perfect!
I stayed in this little slice of heaven for a month. It was perfect in so many ways. The space was airy and well lit. The bathroom is very spacious and well done-the towels are thick and soft. The furniture was comfortable and so was the bed. I read that someone found it to be too hard, but I beg to differ. The kitchen had everything I needed. The washer and dryer were lifesavers! I was able to make it my home away from home very easily. It is situated close to all the most sought after places in San Diego. It's minutes from the coast, Old Town and Fashion Valley (the mall). It's freeway close without the hectic noise and traffic of being near a freeway. The neighborhood in which it sits is quiet and charming. I thank the hosts for putting so much effort and thought in to making it such a lovely place to stay.
Margie was perfect, too. We have had many wonderful guests over the past few years, but Margie exemplifies what it means to be a great guest in every way. We hope some day she will bless us with a return visit.
A word of advise to any hosts out there: If you receive an inquiry from Margie, don't hesitate to book her.
Delightful, centrally located and quiet!
My stay here was exactly what I was hoping for. The hosts were friendly and accommodating, the house was bright, clean cheery, close to all major freeways and centrally located. I could not have found a more suitable rental for the price and location. This will be my go-to spot for vacationing in the this area!
TIffany was a terrific guest. She was kind and courteous, and she left the apartment in perfect condition. We look forward to Tiffany staying with us in the future. She is always welcome.
Really cute and clean
This is really cute as pictured. Michael and Smira are low key and welcoming. It is spacious, clean and cheerful.
Vicky was a wonderful guest and would be welcome to stay again whenever she wishes. Very quiet and thoughtful, and she spent WAY too much time cleaning up the apartment when she left. It was spotless. I would highly recommend Vicky to any VRBO host family.
Clean, cozy and convenient
This studio apartment is so nice, we wouldn't mind living here on a long-term basis. The location is convenient to most of San Diego's premier attractions, including the zoo and Balboa Park. There are major grocery stores and plenty of good restaurants nearby. Oh, and did I mention the price is right? Our host and hostess were friendly and helpful. Other than a mattress that was a little too firm for our liking, we had nothing serious to complain about. For your next visit to San Diego, you really can't go wrong with this charming apartment.
Leslie and her husband could not have been nicer or more considerate. In addition, if we had not actually seen them on occasion, it would have been hard to know they had stayed in the apartment: it was immaculately clean. Thank you again for taking such good care of our apartment. We look forward to a return trip soon.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The guest house was well appointed and Michael went out of his way to make our stay perfect. Ideal location with easy access to everything. Stayed here with my husband, two children and our dog and we would definitely stay here again while in San Diego. Thanks again, Michael. We love our plant that you gave us and it’s a reminder of our perfect trip to California!
Krystal and her family were wonderful guests. I don't know if she took me seriously, but I had mentioned that Krystal and her husband should write a book on raising children. I do not believe I have ever met two more polite, well-behaved children in my life. Their family is more than welcome to stay with us whenever they visit San Diego.
Picture yourself in the heart of an amazing city, with virtually unlimited options of things to do and see. Our home is 10 to 15 minutes away from a wide array of sports activities, restaurants and bars, scenic drives, white-sand beaches, parks, the world famous San Diego Zoo, and so much more. Stay in Birdland, a quiet residential neighborhood, a stone's throw from whatever your heart desires. (Note: Bring your own stones, but we'll provide the home).
