If you are into artifacts the ranch has fossils to search for and Indian artifacts if you enjoy the hunt. Want to teach the kids about ranching?? We can do that. Often there are lambs to watch being bottle fed, always a popular activity, even an occasional calf. There is always breeze in the country and if you want to fly kites, just ask. They will be provided. In the city of Lampasas there are two pools to pick from one of which is a free flow spring pool, very unique. Lampasas is also known for it's collection of murals and you can take a mural tour around town and explore the art scene, including sculpture park and also a nature park. Colorado Bend state park is also a short 30 minute drive as is Inks Lake state park and numerous other lakes near by. There is also a local golf course.

Lovely and Comfortable Guesthouse on a Fun Ranch

  • 5 of 5

We loved our visit to the Blacksheep Ranch! It was a fun labor day weekend getaway! There is a lot to do and see on the ranch and the surrounding area. Our kids had fun looking for fossils and watching the animals.

We set up our telescopes right outside the guesthouse the first night and had a brilliant view of the milky way! It was an excellent night of stargazing. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate with the rest of our weekend stargazing plans, but it is definitely a great place for it on clear nights.

We visited the nearby towns of Lampasas and Burnet. They are both cute little towns with some interesting shops and there is a natural sulpher springs pool in Lampasas called Hancock Springs Pool. We also went to the Longhorn Cavern for a tour. It was a really neat cave with lots of cool features--smooth marble-looking limestone tunnels, some beautiful calcite tunnels, and a really interesting history. Colorado Bend and Inks Lake are close by and there are several wineries and a couple of distilleries nearby as well.

The guesthouse had everything we needed! The linens and towels were great, the kitchen is well stocked, and the beds are comfortable. The decorations and furniture are an interesting mix of antique and rustic chic that add a fun yet historical vibe.

The owners are awesome, very sweet folks! We enjoyed visiting with them and they made an extra effort to involve us and the kids in some fun activities at the ranch and in their shop in town.

I would highly recommend adding this place to your hill country visit! We hope we will get a chance to come back again soon!

We loved staying in the house and will definitely be back. It is perfectly located to visit wineries, go into town and go to the state park! The house is comfortable and set up where all you need is clothes and food and you are good to go for your trip!
