This property is offered by Rock Creek Trout Bums...
Big Hat, No Cattle definition:
Someone who presents themselves as a person of great importance, but who’s actual credentials are spurious or questionable. And so explains the sense of humor of our friend John Taylor, an attorney and the owner of this cabin with his wife Susan. It actually seems fitting in a way – a fishing cabin in Montana, a place where tales of questionable truth are told. A bit of history, since I’m not sure if many of you know the origin of Grizzly Hackle Fly Shop in Missoula, I thought I’d share just a little bit.
Were you aware that Grizzly Hackle actually started here at Rock Creek? Here before The Merc, and (obviously) before Trout Bums, it was the first fly shop on Rock Creek and was started by Jim Toth. I’m not sure what year he opened up – sometime in the 1980’s though. He and his first wife had a small home about the same distance from the road as our Trout Bums store is, but nearer to the 11 mile marker (we’re at mile 8). They built an addition off the front of their little cabin and put out the open sign. I’m not sure what year they moved their shop to Missoula, but I do know it was already gone by the time I moved to Rock Creek in 1991.
At that time (around 1991), John & Susan Taylor from Atlanta purchased the property from Jim Toth, and though the signs stayed with the property, it was never again a fly shop. Joe did plenty of work for the Taylors…he added a bathroom to the master bedroom, converted the porch to a dining room, built on a deck, and converted the garage to a bunk house. The signs for Grizzly Hackle are still here, decorating the walls in both buildings, a reminder of the origins of this humble home.
And now, we are offering this home – the original Grizzly Hackle Fly Shop – as a vacation rental. The main house has 3 bedrooms; with a queen, a full, and two twin beds; along with 2 full bathrooms. It will accommodate 4 singles or 2 couples and 2 singles. A fully equipped kitchen gives the option of dining in in the spacious dining area or fire up the grill on the back deck and enjoy outdoor dining under the big Montana sky! The guest house is also available as an add on and can accommodate up to 4 more people. It has one private bedroom with a queen bed and a full bed in the main room; 1 full bath.
You can easily fish Rock Creek, just across the meadow or Ranch Creek a mere 25 feet away. This sweet vacation rental also offers horse safe (no wire) fenced pasture for those traveling with horses, and easy access to numerous riding trails.
