A delightful villa in beautiful surroundings
This is a wonderful house for a relaxing, family holiday. The accommodation is spacious with excellent bathrooms and a lovely private pool, surrounded by beautiful countryside. Nearby beaches are clean and uncrowded, and there are interesting little towns to explore.
The owner's staff were friendly and helpful and the welcome gift of food and wine was the best we've ever had! The villa more than met our expectations, and we would certainly recommend it to anyone seeking to stay in this unspoiled part of Portugal.
Thank you for the great review! It's really gratifying to hear you enjoyed your holiday and I will pass on your message to our local staff. I hope we'll see you again.
An amazing property in a stunning location.
Maurice was so helpful with our booking. His house is just stunning and equipped with everything you could need. The grounds were immaculate and Lina was so helpful. The pool was big enough for lengths and crystal clear and the beach a 10 min drive. A pizza in Dolce Vianna in Vianna, breakfast in caminha square and an evening beer in Ponte de Lima square are all a must. Thank you Maurice for a fantastic holiday.
Thank you for your review. It's really nice to hear that you enjoyed your stay. I will pass on your message to Lina and Maria who, I'm sure, will be very pleased.
Really Lovely Property - Highly Recommended
We had a lovely holiday in Casa do Campo Pequeno. The owner, Maurice, and his staff (the wonderful Lina and Maria) could not have been more helpful. The property was exactly as described and Maurice went out of his way to fence off part of a terrace to keep our young kids safe from the pool (we had been worried about this but it was a great solution). The area was beautiful with lots of almost empty beches. We had a really wonderful holiday and hope to book again for 2018. Thank you!
Thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back. We're happy to put up netting around the terrace of the Guest House to keep younger children away from the pool - we did this for our son when he was crawling everywhere. Please let us know beforehand as it takes time to arrange! I will pass on your comments to Lina and Maria.
A wonderful house that led to a fantastic holiday
We stayed here for two weeks in August and really can't recommend it enough. The house is beautiful, set in lovely grounds, is very well maintained and has a good, logical, layout for a large family. Imagine lovely, relaxing days by the pool, with lunch on the patio, occasionally snacking on the grapes from the vine twisting around the porch. The view is beautiful of the green hills, and at night you hear the surf from the coast. We can also recommend the local area as a destination - it was our first trip to Northern Portugal and the place really grows on you. It's a fairly quiet local area, apparently with not a huge number of visitors, but it's not clear why - the quality of the beaches is superb and after the surfers went home, we often had them to ourselves.
Maurice, the owner was beyond helpful and thoughtful from my first enquiry to the end of our stay - he works very hard to ensure that you have all of the information you need and any possible assistance necessary in the local area. Just really professional, yet friendly with it - a very positive experience from the outset.
Again, we cannot recommend the house and Maurice highly enough!
Thank you for a wonderful review - it's so nice to hear from guests who have enjoyed the house as much as we do. August is peak holiday time and, although the shops, restaurants and beaches can be much busier, as you found it's still possible to find space, peace and quiet in our haven.
A very enjoyable stay at this characterful villa
This is a lovely villa with peaceful surroundings, surrounded by woodland with easy access to the sea. We have stayed in many villas over the past 30 years and would highly recommend this one. The main house has much character, is comfortably furnished and spacious. The annex is a great asset with self contained facilities but close enough for use by an extended family group. The local representative, Maria, could not have been more helpful, and the owner was also excellent to deal with. The weather was a little disappointing during our stay but we loved the area which retains great charm and is unspoilt by mass tourism. We are likely to visit again.
Thank you for a lovely review. I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday at Casa do Campo Pequeno enough to want to return. I'll try to arrange perfect weather next time!
A GREAT PLACE
The villa sleeps six comfortably in the main house and two very comfortably in the detached pool house. The grounds are beautiful, and the villa is within striking distance for day trips to Santiago de Compostela, A Guarda, Braga, Porto, Guimaraes, etc. The wine is great and inexpensive, the people are gracious and helpful. The house is quiet and beautiful. It is a great deal. I recommend it.
Thank you Todd for a lovely review. I'm really happy you had a good holiday in Afife and I hope you will revisit.
Afife is a small village on the Costa Verde, under an hour's drive from Oporto Airport World Heritage city of Porto, the home of Port wine. Popular over many decades with wealthy Oporto families, many of whom have their summer houses in the village to take advantage of the cooling sea breezes. Minutes from the long sandy beaches, the village stretches into the forested hills above, which is where our house sits, backing onto eucalyptus and pine trees.
In the village are the essentials of a local supermarket, a couple of restaurants, handful of bars and coffee shops, an ATM and a station for the single track train line from Viana do Castelo to Spain.
In front of the village is the beach, a long stretch of golden sand and dunes fitted with board walks. The beach links with others, each with a different character. Popular with surfers, swimmers and sunbathers, even in high summer there is space to be alone if you wish.
5 minutes away, the village of Vila Praia de Ancora is more of a typical busy seaside town with a thriving fishing industry and many beach side restaurants, as well as banks and supermarkets. About 15 minutes in the other direction is the prosperous town of Viana do Castelo with boutiques and out of town shopping centres.
Close, too, are the many historic towns of Minho - Ponte de Lima, Guimarães (European Capital of Culture 2012), Caminha and many more. Then there's the winding mountain lanes and tiny old villages of the Serra de Arga, and further afield the wilderness of the Peneda-Gerês National Park. From Caminha, 10km away, a short ferry ride across the mouth of the river Minho will take you into Spain, which offers beautiful coastal scenery, wine routes and, of course, its seafood restaurants. Santiago de Compostela and Vigo are within easy reach.
Fishing villages, seaside resorts, mountains, beaches, historic towns, opportunities for walking and cycling, surfing and swimming, it's all here.
Minho is a region famed for its cuisine, and there are dozens of fine restaurants close by. But all this is still relatively unknown, so there are no hordes of tourists, clogged roads or crowded beaches. Plenty of room to relax in the peace and quiet of Minho.
