1958 Mid Century Modern Revival: As part of the 1950's nationwide post war Military Housing Initiative, the area was developed as military housing named "Chollas View" after the Chollas Cactus that grows naturally in the area. Years later the military housing units were converted to residential single family units available to the general public. Like many of the neighborhoods of that time over the years it fell into disrepair.
A New Era For South-East San Diego
Decades later renewal & re-development would occur across San Diego's older neighborhoods. As a changing population migrated back into the metro areas in conjunction with lower property values and overall reasonable cost of living for California the area attracted individuals and families from all walks of life. Streets and entire neighborhoods rebounded changing the landscape. As San Diego property values skyrocketed inventory and availability of affordable housing decreased. Today Compared to other San Diego neighborhoods Chollas View and South East San Diego maintains a lower cost of living which continues to attract those seeking an affordable lifestyle. One of San Diego's remaining communities to ride the tidal wave of urban renewal Chollas View retains its diverse cultural make up. 4 years in the area I absolutely love this community; centrally located, a working class, family oriented neighborhood that plays host to multiple cultural groups.
Not Spoiled by GENTRIFICATION !
Experiencing San Diego's true diversity first hand has been nothing less than outstanding. If you want to experience this Villa Bella Dos Y Tres is ideal for you.
Unlike the many fancy, cool-overpriced and congested gentrified neighborhoods that has resulted in pushing the original community out, the residents here have taken initiative to preserve the cultural integrity and original historic infrastructure to keep the community in place. Any given summer night you can hear the sounds of mariachi bands, Loatian karaoke, cheers from Gompers soccer field and the free cultural concerts at the Jacobs Center. In the past the area has been given a bad rap being called ghetto, the hood, a bad area..... These comments are not true. To describe diversity & culture with such words I find offensive.
The property is 4+1 bedroom, 2 bath home (+1 is the large family room converted into a hip media / bunk room). The floor plan boasts Mid-century modern design that incorporates simplicity, efficiency and use of the indoor-outdoor living spaces together.
The property has been completely updated to give this 1958 residence a modern flare. Incorporating the old & with the new. The property is uniquely "cool".
The outdoor space includes a kitchen with grill, dinning table and several outdoor seating areas on both front and back patio areas. The indoor spaces have all been renovated with hard-woods modern amenities and mid century themed furnishings.
A/C & Heating Note: Because the House is an older home the heating system is 2 wall mounted gas forced air units. Each sleeping space contains a portable stand-up or window installed air conditioning unit capable of cooling the room to comfortable levels. Common spaces: Dinning room and kitchen does not have an AC Unit.
During the busy season the property is only available as a single residence that sleeps 16. During the slower periods the property can be divided in two:
Unit Dos: 3 bed / 1 bath
Unit Tres: 2 bed / 1 bath

A New History
The property is located on Lakiba Palmer Ave, recently renamed after Lakiba Palmer who resided on Lise Ave. Lakiba Palmer was one of the first female sailors to die in action. She died heroically alongside with 16 of her fellow shipmates on The USS Cole October 12, 2000 during a terrorist attack in Yemen. I was active duty Navy during this period and clearly remember this day. Now retired this place has special meaning to me.
Our standard rate of $189.00 a night equates to an astounding
$11.81 a person per night for a party of 16. I assure you the value, comfort and central location is unbeatable.
Why so low?
My family travels as a
group with the intent of enjoying quality time together. Not an easy thing to plan for. For the hard working families: Our price point for our properties are intentionally kept low to stay competitive but primarily and more importantly to allow families traveling together to visit San Diego without destroying their travel budget. A quick scan of comparable properties and hotels in the area is nothing less than shocking!! Coming from a large family I know the struggles and disappointment encountered when trying to plan a vacation with the family.
