Practical and pretty cottage in a beautiful setting
A lovely barn conversion with all amenities.
The underfloor heating was effective, giving a cosy feel to rest in.
On arrival there was milk in the fridge and freshly baked pastries, which were very tasty.
There was a washer drier, hoover, dish washer, and wood burning stove.
The shower was gorgeous, and the hot tub was amazing after a long day out exploring.
There are lots of places to visit around and about, which gives variety to your break away.
All in all, a lovely place to go.
I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. It's in a beautiful and peaceful location. It's been nicely converted and the addition of the external hot tub raises it to a higher league. Great location for lots of attractions. The owners Jane and John are very accomadating and the little touches like freshly baked croissants on arrival add a lovely personal touch. Can't wait to return.
Thank you - we greatly appreciate your comments and are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. When guests say they would like to return that's the best compliment!
The Stables Swerford
Jane and Jonathan, have a first class holiday cottage which has every home comfort and more (the hot tub was fantastic). A lovely welcome pack on arrival and both extremely pleasant and helpful with regards local sights to visit.
It is perfectly placed to visit plenty of attractions, and lovely walks.
It was that nice we did not want to leave.

Thank you for your review and we're pleased you enjoyed the cottage and surrounding area so much - there's plenty to see and do around here whatever activities you enjoy. We hope to see you again in the future.
This was a very good find indeed. The cottage is just delightful and it's conversion from an old stable has been very well done and excellently thought out. Never hot-tubbed before and quite frankly we are missing it already! Just luxurious to come home from exploring all the lovely places in the Cotswolds and then relax in the Jacuzzi. (you've spoilt us now we will expect such luxury wherever we go!). It is so peaceful and restful in this little cottage especially enjoyed having the animals around and about. The owners are very friendly and helpful and around if you need them but also the cottage feels very private too. We enjoyed visiting Blenheim Palace, Hidcote Manor Gardens, mooching around the quintessential Cotswolds villages and market towns such as Burford, Bourton-on-the-water, Stow on the Wold, Chipping Camden to name a few. We particularly enjoyed visiting the open village gardens in Langford and it seemed there was a garden open somewhere everyday in June. We had some excellent meals in the nearby Mason Arms and at the Falkland Inn in Great Tew. We would stay here again without a moments hesitation and hope to do so. Thank you Jonathan & Jane for sharing your lovely Cotswold farmstead and not keeping it all to yourselves!
Thank you for your lovely review and we're so glad you enjoyed your holiday and your stay at the Old Stables.
Our best cottage holiday ever.
I can really only endorse what the previous reviewers have said about this cottage. It's cosy, comfortable, well-equipped and in a beautiful, peaceful location. The owners are lovely people and we were made to feel at home from the outset. The only time we had to go to Jane was when we needed some of her gorgeous baking. (The bread is to die for!) She even went out of her way to get the ingredients for some pies we wanted to bring home.Thank you Jane- they were absolutely delicious.
It was great having the animals around- would have loved to have brought a couple of the cheeky goats home!
We found the location was perfect for the places we wanted to visit. Lots of honey-coloured stone Cotswold villages close to hand and we also enjoyed, Blenheim Palace, Upton House, Hook Norton Brewery and the Glos. and Warks Railway. We used the Pear Tree Park and Ride to get into Oxford then had a good look around from the open-topped tourist bus before going into the covered market for lunch and to buy some luxurious chocolates.
All-in-all an absolutely brilliant week and one which we will remember for a very long time.
Thank you so much for the kind comments and we're glad you had such a memorable stay. It's what we try to create for all our guests (with the help of the goats and all the other animals!) and the area has some great places to visit as you found out. Thanks again.
Beautiful Cotswold Hideaway
Grange Farm is situated on the outskirts of the very picturesque Swerford in The Cotswolds, The Old Stables is quite simply a beautiful cottage and a perfect Hideaway destination. We were greeted on arrival with warm freshly baked bread and wonderful locally produced butter. The farm itself is the home to a herd of Alpacas, rare breed goats, geese, donkeys, horses, sheep and the cheeky wild squirrels. Jane and Jonathan are excellent hosts and the cottage had everything that you could possibly want, including a great selection of books and DVDs. There is a wonderful farm shop on site which you have access to 7 days a week and Jane will bake pastries and bread daily if required as well as homemade pizzas and quiches. All in all a brilliant way to spend a week relaxing and a great base for seeing the breathtaking Cotswolds. We will definitely return.
Thank you very much for your kind comments and we're glad you had a relaxing break - isn't that what holidays are all about! We look forward to seeing you again. Our best wishes.
The Old Stables is a detached cottage set in an idyllic location on the edge of the village of Swerford on the owners small farm.
The property is accessed from a country lane with very little traffic so offers a peaceful retreat from everyday life. Sit on the private patio area and you can enjoy beautiful views over the Oxfordshire countryside and the wonderful wildlife which inhabits the area - it's not unusual to see deer, kites, herons, owls and others if you sit and watch. In addition you have the pleasure of our own animals - young cheeky goats, alpacas, donkeys, sheep and a pony plus geese and ducks on the pond close to the cottage.
You also have the enjoyment of the private hot tub, perfect to relax in after a day of walking or sight-seeing.
At the farm we also have an art studio and large craft room. We offer a range of workshops and courses with materials supplied. If of interest, please enquire when booking.
Swerford itself is a small village mentioned in the Domesday Book consisting of mainly ironstone cottages and with the lovely church of St Mary's (originally founded in the 13th Century) only a few minutes walk away. Behind the church is the site of an old Motte and Bailey which is believed to pre-date the church.
There are also several footpaths around the village and the area is excellent for walking, cycling and riding.
The whole area is steeped in history with plenty of beautiful villages and towns such as Great Tew, Chipping Norton and many others close by. A short drive away and within walking distance is the village of Hook Norton where there is a Victorian brewery. It has it's own museum and offers tours and tastings of it's beers made on the premises.
Chipping Norton, also only a short drive away and known as the Gateway to the Cotswolds, is the nearest town with a good range of everyday and more unusual shops, restaurants and cafes. It even has its own small theatre with some great performances.
If you want somewhere bigger then the city of Oxford and its famous dreaming spires is only about 27 miles away and a walking tour is a great way to get an introduction to the history of the university colleges and some of the beautiful surrounding buildings, libraries and museums. You can also go punting on the River Cherwell with or without a chauffeur!
Nearer to home is the town of Woodstock with the magnificent Blenheim Palace which is well worth a visit. Stratford on Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, is about 40 minutes away and there are some lovely stately homes, National Trust properties and other things to do and see all around the area.
