Rural and relaxed with stunning views, plenty of space and lots to see and do
About Dorothy Wright
We bought Mowbarton, along with our own neighbouring property, as part of our move out of London. We love living in Somerset and are busy creating somewhere special for our grandchildren to visit. Our first grandchild was born in July 2013, since when another four have joined him!
Dorothy Wright purchased this Barn in 2011
Why Dorothy Wright chose Wedmore
It is close to family and friends, not too far from London and yet very much in the country. It is an area with a real community feel and one where families have worked on the land for generations. To make it even more special - we planted a vineyard on the property in May 2014 (see picture above) and also acquired a couple of extra acres. Viticulture is proving a time-consuming business but we are confident it will be worth it. Our first batch of 220 bottles of sparkling wine was ready in time for Christmas 2018 and the first few bottles have already gone down a treat over the festive season. The 2017 and 2018 harvests have also been safely gathered in with around 4000 bottles of sparkling waiting for sampling before very long. Tasting holidays may well be on the cards in the not too distant future! Watch this space...

Delightful and spacious
Lovely house in a great location. Superb accommodation for a family get together. Masses of room and really well appointed with everything you could need. The walled garden and outdoor seating areas are great for alfresco dining. A real find. Thank you.
Wonderful and peaceful stay
We had a fantastic time over the Easter bank holiday. We ended up arriving a night earlier and Dorothy was more than accommodating. The barn is beautifully presented and has everything you need. The children loved playing in the enclosed garden as well. All in all, a wonderful short stay. Would definitely recommend to others.
A clean and cosy property, perfect location for exploring the wider area
We stayed at Mowbarton Barn for a week in April 2019. When we arrived, it was clear that the property was very clean, well appointed and very well cared for by its owners. Having a range of ages from 6 to 78, the property was perfectly located for Cheddar and Wookey Hole as well as Wells, Glastonbury and Street. It was also not far from Brean Down and Weston SM so we had a diverse range of day trips to keep everyone happy. There are also very good walks locally and Wedmore has two good pubs and nice cafes if you visit it during the day. All in all, a great property and location and I think we may be back in the future for further exploration of this part of Somerset.
We would be very happy to welcome you back - and so glad you had a good time
A lovely house with ample room for us all. Would definitely stay again.
Really impressed, clean and spacious
A great mid Winter weekend stay, and the courtyard amazing which we enjoyed with a glass of wine watching the Winter sun going down. Lovely touch of daffodils in a vase in arrival with bread, butter and local cider. Perfect location for a weekend...
And equally good for a week or more!!
Comfortable property in a great location
Mowbarton Barn is a spacious, comfortable property and well equipped for 6 - 8 people. There's plenty of room in the house for a group of friends. It has an enclosed walled garden which is a charming spot and provides a nice backdrop for the garden room which has a lovely big dining table and chairs for the times that it's a bit too chilly to sit outside. The property's location is very close to the nature reserves on the Somerset Levels plus Wells and Glastonbury. We had a great stay and hope to return some day.
The property overlooks the Somerset Levels and is equidistant from Wells and Glastonbury (you can see the Tor from one of the bedrooms), both of which are steeped in historical sights and folklore. Wedmore itself was once part of King Alfred's Royal Estate; he burnt the cakes just down the road! The property is also just 15 minutes drive from Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. The area is famed for bird watching, with several nature reserves within ten minutes' drive. It is also very popular with cyclists and walkers. Ten miles away is the north Somerset coast (Burnham-on-Sea), with Exmoor not much further on. Longleat, Stonehenge and Bath are all approximately an hour's drive away
