Why Bill Woodruff - Property Manager chose Government Camp
This Government Camp location is ideal for a group looking to get up to the mountain and be centrally located. It's the closest rent-able property to SkiBowl East (its about .25 miles and there are trails that connect - although snow boarders have better luck walking given their boots). The house is right across from Mount Hood Brewing. On the property/development there is a lake that is a lot of fun in the summer, when there aren't maintenance issues with them there are generally rafts which are fun to use on the lake. The hiking trails which start within a couple feet of the house are excellent in both the summer and winter.

very nice facility but need to replace the 2 sofas
very handy location, very nice facility. My only complaint was the the sofa in the great room was broken and sitters sank down into a hole. We used a pillow in the hole to sit The sofa in the TV room was filthy. We covered it with a sheet. If the owners replaced the 2 sofas the review would be much higher.
While the sofa's aren't high end there are 3 in our 2,500 sq ft house and they are consistent with the $275-$475 price point per night of this 4-bedroom house. July and August are exceptionally busy months and our third party cleaner has to at times launder towels for 10, sheets for 6 beds and the clean all surfaces in the entire house in 4 hours. While the dirtiness of the couch is unacceptable, I suspect they didn't notice it as they did not inform property management. Immediately after finding out about the couch it has been cleaned and returned to the condition prior to the way this guest received it in.
The log cabin style was appreciated and the layout for our group of 8 was nice
House was over the top nice as far as the house and fixtures. We would have liked nicer chairs and an out door sitting area setup.
Great property for a family holiday
We have just returned to Australia after a family holiday in Oregon including 5 nights at this fab house. Government Camp is amazing and my only complaint is we had to cross Highway 26 to get to the Breweries etc
Our family really enjoyed our stay, especially the variety of nearby activity options.
The home was beautiful, very spacious and the two master suites worked well for the two families with children. The other two bedrooms were smaller but fine. The bunk bed room did have a bit of squeakiness in the bed springs. Our toddler loved "Mater from Cars" and the other toys in the play/living room area. And our outdoor enthusiasts found lots of fun options for running, mountain biking, hiking and spaces to enjoy nature. The adventure place was great fun for a day with the grandkids. The museum in Government Camp and Timberline Lodge offered fun for the history buffs. And Timberline Lodge also offered a chance to find snow in walking distance for even the 2-year-old!
Our only difficulty was that of the multiple stairs in the property. Two and a half floors and no bedroom or bathroom on the entry level meant our one arthritic person had to manage some stairs for every trip to bedroom, play room and rest room.
Overall our family would rate this the best of our many summer retreat sites.
There are 4 stairs between the front door and the garage and the entry/kitchen/dining area. To get to the two lower level bedrooms there are 4 stairs. Those rooms share a bathroom. There are no stairs between those rooms a bathroom with a shower and the living room. Because of the extreme amounts of snow in the area finding a single family home without any stairs is extremely unlikely.
Great opportunity for family time in this beautiful home.
What a great time our family had staying in this lovely 4 bedroom home in a private quiet setting. The house was everything we were expecting and more. Very little time was spent on the tv or iPads as we were so close to a few hiking trails and the adventure Park West. The large dining room table allowed us to have some much needed family time while talking and laughing the night away playing games. The kitchen was equipped with really nice modern appliances and cooking items. Cooking our meals saved us time and money however just the joy of being allowed to use this kitchen made this grandma's weekend. We were especially pleased that the owner had toys and a highchair for our granddaughter since we forgot her chair. The miniature vacuum gained many miles on it as Izzy loved it and vacuumed the floors over and over and over. I think her uncle was even trying to hide it from her when he heard her vacuuming at 10:30 one night.
The bathrooms in this home were very beautiful with nice walk-in showers, counters and sinks. The placement of furniture, fireplace and tv in the family room could be better arranged, however we weren't there to watch TV. There is very minimal wall decor in this home but where I like that, others may think it needs more to give it that homey feeling. There was really only one area that our group wanted to relay to the owners and that was we were unable to control the heat in the house. Our bedrooms grew very warm during the night and windows had to be opened to make it a sleepable temperature. We tried to adjust the settings down at night but noticed it was remotely controlled by owner. I believe it was set on 74-76. Overall this home is a keeper on our list and we highly recommend it to others who are searching for that quiet get away, seeking family time or looking for a beautiful, clean home to rest their weary heads. Thank you for letting us stay in your home.
It is always greatly appreciated when we receive detailed feedback. We constantly seek to improve the experience of our guests.
Heating Response: The house has central propane based heat. It is controlled by a Nest Thermostat which is 100% in the control of the guests. To reduce the temperature you spin the round thermostat to the left and to increase the temperature you spin the round thermostat to the right.
We would encourage any guest that has the slight bit of discomfort to reach out to us during their stay. This is an example of something that a quick text message or e-mail would likely have resolved.
There have been multiple comments about the great room furniture over time. The great room is long and fairly narrow. This limits layout options. What makes it worse is that there is an overly large rock fireplace in the middle making it harder to use (see pictures on the listing). The house is 2,500sq ft and has 4 bedrooms, 2 of which are suites, plus the dining area is large. Unfortunately, a large living room isn't part of this property and if that's important to you I'd suggest looking for a property larger than 2,500sq ft.
Thanks for reading this.
Great accomodations for our whole family.
We loved being able to walk to hiking trails and to town, not to mention Mt Hood Brewery! The home gave us individual couple space as well as group gathering space. Wonderful stay!
