About Durango Steele

I am an East Coast girl from Connecticut who moved to Colorado with my family when my father was employed by IBM in Boulder 1966! I graduated from Estes Park High School and continue to love this community and the beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park. I realize what a great privilege it is to be located next to one our our nation's treasured parks!

Why Durango Steele chose Estes Park

My husband, Mark, and I lived in Santa Barbara for many years. While enjoying our time there, our attention was drawn to the Craftsman Style of Architecture including Prairie Style and the California Bungalow. We fell in love with this style of home and knew that someday we would find a property suitable for us to restore with the artistic integrity of this form of architecture. We knew it was Rockhedge as soon as we visited the home. Built in 1921 and situated on a beautiful lot; this was the perfect place for us to restore in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

This home is warm and welcoming, thoughtfully renovated with attention to detail.

This is a favorite quote of our's by Frank Lloyd Wright:

'A Building should appear to grow easily from its site and be shaped to harmonize with its surroundings if nature is manifest there, and if not, try to make it as quiet, substantial, and organic as she would have done were the opportunity hers.'

Excellent and Comfortable!

Really a gem! Stylish and Modern, but with just enough "old" to not feel out of place with the surroundings. We enjoyed every minute in the house, and while out and about all day in Estes Park and RMNP, we looked forward to returning to end each day to relax by the fire and enjoy the amenities. The kitchen was well stocked, beds comfortable, and the view looking out to the trees around the property made the place just what we hoped for. Plenty of firewood and extras (dvd's, vhs, books, and games) add to the time while there. Location was perfect - about 2 minute drive to town, or about 10 to RMNP. Thanks Durango (and Toon) - happy guests...

Beautiful home! Felt like we were in Colorado.

Very comfortable and cozy home nestled at the foot of the mountains in a comfortable neighborhood near downtown. Great views, large lot, very private and quiet. Wood floors and trim. Full accommodations. Large family room and historic fireplace that could have used more comfortable couches and chairs. Overall, a very beautiful home and great place to refresh.

Comfortable and beautiful

My wife and I stayed at Rockhedge with two other couples and thoroughly enjoyed it. The home was beautiful, the kitchen had everything imaginable and more, the beds were comfortable and the setting all but perfect. We enjoyed a comfortable fire in the stone fireplace each morning then left for hiking in the park. In the evening we talked and played games or went to town. Everything is close by and convenient. One evening we went to a dinner show of western music and comedy (Lazy B Chuckwagon) that was a delight. Overall we could not have asked for more.

Beautiful house, wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay at Rockhedge. The house is nestled in the woods while being so close to the heart of Estes Park and RMNP. It has everything that we could imagine and more. Big collection of VHS in Rockhedge brought back some old memories. House is furnished tastefully and was very well stocked. It was time well spent in this beautiful home.

Rockhedge is located just 4 miles from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Summer activities include hiking the many trails in RMNP, cycling, climbing, fishing the streams and rivers, sailing on Lake Estes, visiting the art galleries, shops and restaurants of the Village of Estes Park. The Town hosts many festivals, horse shows and the Rooftop Rodeo. The Historic Stanley Hotel is just east of Rockhedge. Fall activities include viewing the beautiful fall foliage, attending the Scottish Highland Festival, Wine Tastings, attending a local theater production. In the Winter snow shoe or cross country ski the trails, ice skating and sledding.This area of Colorado is truly spectacular. Once you have experienced it you will be anticipating your return.
