Wonderful flat - modern, spotless, AC
This was a superb place to stay. Ilaria, our host, was laid back and informative. She answered all my email questions quickly and was very friendly. We didn't need her much because the flat was perfect. The flat is only a block from the entrance to the Vatican - you can see it from the balcony or apt entrance. Large market across the street with anything you might need, including cash machines. Wish we'd tried more of the restaurants in the direction away from the Vatican as they were the real deal - no tourists at all. Metro was 10 min walk, but a very easy walk - we enjoyed it. Moreover, you could get to the old city by foot, if you like walking. We did it and are in our late 40s wearing nice ballerina flats (not sneakers). The flat was nicer than we expected: two huge bedrooms with AC and TVs, lovely bathroom with nice shower (no tub, but that is fine for us), nice kitchen and large table, washing machine (important if you travel light). The flat was completely spotless and fresh. It is on the third floor and there is an old style elevator, which was broken on our arrival but quickly repaired. We were still too chicken to use it - 3 short flights of stairs are not difficult for us, but keep this in mind if you have mobility concerns. I whole heartedly recommend this property if you want to be a little outside of the hard-core tourist area yet very close to the fabulous Vatican. The only downside for some guests is that the flat does not have a "living room" area other than the kitchen table in the photo. This did not impede our stay, as there were just two of us and we visited at the table or in one of the bedrooms (one has a small Juliette balcony). If you need a common area with sofa and lots of armchairs, this might not be your place. But it is perfect for 2 to 4 people that want to enjoy breakfast in the apt before touring the city, and return to do some light cooking to keep costs down or if your diet has lots of restrictions.
Thank you so much for this wonderful review and for being my guests.
I would also like to thank you for pointing out the absence of a living room area. Recently I have received some requests from guests who asked if there is a common area with sofa and TV. There is no living room and the pictures on the site describe all existing areas in the apartment. When renovating, I preferred to give more space to the kitchen and the bedrooms since I thought that people coming for short stays do not spend much time on a sofa and watch TV and maybe prefer to have a bigger room and a comfortable kitchen.
Trionfale is one of the few districts in the center of Rome that has preserved its authentic taste. The name comes from via Trionfale (Triumphal Way), the route which led the Roman generals to Rome after their victories.
On the same street where the apartment is located, there is the historic 'Trionfale Market', where guests can shop with the Romans and buy fresh groceries every day. Underground the market, there is a big parking lot (€ 1.50/hour - max € 20/day - € 70/week) for those arriving by car. On the same street, there is also a convenient laundromat, a grocery store and other shops. A few meters away, you can find a cinema and several restaurants. 600 meters away, there are subway stations Cipro (Vatican Museums) and Ottaviano (St. Peter). The Vatican Museums and St. Peter are at a walking distance (5 minutes). All areas of interest are easily accessible by walking or by public transit.
