Lovely view, house needs spiffing up
There were some strong positives, like a lovely view of the lake, comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, good AC water pressure. The downside was that the property was not in the best condition. The outdoor table was broken and unusable, there were knick knacks everywhere that could have been minimized and the place needs a deep clean as there were dead bugs, cobwebs, etc. I also think the house would benefit from a dishwasher, since it is used as a rental, and there should be some kind of trash service, versus telling renters to drop off their trash at a local waste center! Overall we had a nice stay. With a few tweaks, they would get more stars.
High Rock Lake
We enjoyed our stay at High Rock Lake. Everything was comfortable and it was great having the lake so close. Owner is very nice and the house had everything supplied that we needed for a much needed get away.
Quirky, but wonderful, lake house!
My family just returned from a 5 night trip at this lake house! It is definitely a quirky little home but it was amazing none the less. Our favorite spot in the house quickly became the window seat, which is in the sun room. Our 3 year old daughter spent most of her time on that seat watching ducks, geese, and herons. She also enjoyed swimming in the lake with our lab (in April!!). We all enjoyed fishing from the dock, and even our toddler caught a HUGE fish and was quite proud of herself. She also had a blast coloring on the deck with sidewalk chalk - which easily washes off with the water hose located right under the deck.
The house has four bedrooms. We slept in one king while our toddler slept in the other. We chose not to use the double room as it has an old pass through (previously a window I think), but it was open and didn't allow the room to be soundproof if we were still in the living room. The bunk bed room does have a wall that doesn't quite touch the ceiling, however the noise level from the living room wasn't too loud for that room and I think kids would be fine in there. None of these things were issues for us, but I did want to mention it in case you have a large group of light sleepers.
The king bed was extremely comfortable. I am in my third trimester of pregnancy and I slept like I haven't slept in months! The chairs are also very comfy, as is the window seat. The house is packed with antiques if you enjoy that type of thing. The central heat and air appear to be brand new and the AC worked perfectly! A previous review mentions a dryer issue and it must have been fixed because it worked just fine for us. We found the house to be well stocked with literally everything we needed and much more. Even dog bowls! We had a power outage during a severe storm, and there were candles to use (though we had packed flashlights too). We also greatly appreciated the welcome note and snack basket after our 6 hour drive!
The house is very centrally located. We visited an outlet mall in Concord, the NC Zoo, the NC Transportation Museum, and the High Rock Dam while we were there. All were within a very reasonable distance. Mostly though, we enjoyed the lake and some much needed peaceful family time.
Overall I think this was the perfect vacation home for our family! We would be happy to come back and stay again and again. In fact, I considered extending our stay however it was already booked! Thank you so much for the wonderful stay! :o)
Great place to stay on High Rock Lake
Very comfortable cabin on the lake. This was the perfect place for our group. Plenty of boat parking!
Thank you for the great review!
Mostly good & would stay again - we had a few hiccups but they were promptly & properly addressed
Nice location, plenty of space and attentive owner.
The house is right on the water, rustic & stocked with lots of antiques which made for a good stay.
Angie left water & snacks out and the house was well stocked with all we needed for a weeks stay (kitchen utensils, paper products, etc). There were even fishing poles & tackle available for use.
The small issues we had will certainly not be experienced by the next guest as the house is scheduled for a central heat&air upgrade and the dryer is to be fixed.
We would certainly stay at this house again.
Connecting with family at Christmas
This cabin was a great half way meet up for my family in Georgia to meet us for Christmas (I live in Virginia). We enjoyed the cottage. Angie was more than helpful and accommodating. There was a basket of goodies awaiting our arrival. We had a great time with family.
Thank you! Glad you had a great Christmas at our home!
