About Claire MacLellan
The MacLellan family have lived at The Lorn since 1989 and lovingly restored the old property to bring out its best whilst still retaining its tradition and charm. We hope to provide guests with the real flavour of staying in an old Scottish farmstead. We are a busy family and all enjoy making the most of our surroundings as much as we can: mountains, skiing, tennis, walking, water skiing, painting and photography.

Why Claire MacLellan chose Alexandria
We fell in love with The Lorn the minute we saw it - roses round the front door and such an overwhelming feel of how right it was for us.
What makes this Cottage unique
The property is tucked away in a private country estate overlooking Loch Lomond and accessed down a wooded drive. You are met with the most stunning view of the Loch, its islands and the majestic Ben Lomond before your turn a bend in the road and see The Lorn. The unique view is so spellbinding and the property so charming, it provides guests with a blissful feeling of comfort and peace.

Laid back time at Lui Cottage
Was a bit worried about finding the cottage as its quite a bit up an un-tarred road but we followed the directions that Claire sent us and found it first time. The cottage is ideal for couples, and the location is perfect if you enjoy walking. It’s a 45 min to an hours walk to into Balloch. We walked in for the Highland games that just happened to be on that weekend. We had our dog Maya with us and she enjoyed the walks & meeting the Lopez who was a very playful and friendly we thing. The cottage was always nice to come back to after a long walk. Perfect for sitting out and enjoying a glass of something cool while watching the sun go down.
We stayed here for first time last week for 4 nights on our honeymoon .
We loved it very quiet, relaxing and close enough to get to places in car or we even went for walks .
Claire and husband we very nice and helpful definitely will return 😊

Beautiful location, lovely home from home cottage
We stayed here for four nights over Easter and can thoroughly recommend both the cottage and the area in general. Claire couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating, we felt very much at home in our beautifully kept cottage with everything we needed plus extra finishing touches that enhanced our stay. The setting was stunning, lovely well kept grounds surrounded by farmland and with views of Loch Lomond, the shores of which were a short walk away from the house.
There’s plenty to do and see in the nearby area, we’d recommend visiting Inchchailloch, one of the islands on Loch Lomond and climbing Duncryne in Gartocharn for amazing views. This was our first visit to Scotland and we’ll definitely be back and hopefully to Lorn Mill also! Many thanks for our wonderful stay.
What a lovely review, thank you. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay in Lui Cottage and appreciated all that the Loch Lomond area has to offer. The weather was such a star and really showed off the Loch at its sparkling best especially as viewed from the top of Duncryne. Your boat trip to Inchchailloch is a brilliant day out - Layla found her sea legs too! The walks from the cottage were perfect for Layla - she no doubt enjoyed a bit of paws up time on the drive back. We are delighted you have returned home with happy memories of Easter break here. Please come and stay again if you are heading our way in the future. Thank you again for choosing Lui Cottage and thank you too for leaving it so neat and tidy.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was quiet, beautiful and we enjoyed many walks in the area. The cottage was comfortable, cosy and well equipped.
Thank you for your review - it was a pleasure having you all to stay plus, of course, the gorgeous Misty who seemed to embrace her Scottish holiday. We are delighted that you have returned home with happy memories of your time in Lui Cottage, enjoying all that the Loch Lomond area has to offer. We hope your long journey home went smoothly and your arrived in time for the birthday celebrations. Thank you again for choosing to stay here and for leaving the cottage net as a pin!
The view as you drive down towards the property is magnificent. We enjoyed being on the quieter side of the Loch and we managed to explore the area extensively. The cottage was very cosy, had everything one would need and was beautifully decorated. The hosts were delightful and very welcoming.
Thank you for your lovely review. It was a pleasure having you to stay and we are delighted to read that you thoroughly enjoyed your time in Lui Cottage. You had a truly Scottish week of weather, gorgeous sunny days, mist, rain and even some hail! You made the most of the our surroundings and beyond and returned home with happy memories of your time at Loch Lomond and Glasgow. Thank you for choosing to spend your holiday here.
The 18th century Lorn Mill is in the heart of the Loch Lomond National Park. Tucked away down a wooded drive the property is set within its own 10 acres in a private country estate overlooking Loch Lomond. Enjoy peaceful walks with outstanding scenery straight from you cottage - the magnificent mountain backdrop with Ben Lomond and the Loch's beautiful islands will be a lasting memory. Primroses, bluebells, jewel coloured heathers, golden autumn leaves and crisp frosty woodland trails - in all seasons the local walks from the Lorn Mill are a joy. Have fun on the private tennis court, the sheep and cows will be your audience, or stroll down to the lochside beach with a picnic. Relax with a long drink watching the many stunning sunsets settle over the mountains.
The local train in Balloch will whisk you into Glasgow, Edinburgh and beyond. Trains from nearby Helensburgh will take you up to Mallaig, near Skye, following one of the the most spectacular routes through Scotland. Harry Potter has done this journey many times over the iconic bridge north of Fort William!
Play golf on the abundant municipal courses nearby or book a round in one of the more famous clubs. Aberfoyle Golf Course will test your skills just as well as Gleneagles or The Carrick. Another popular day out is to catch the ferry to the Isle of Bute or Arran for 18 holes.
Visit the local whisky distilleries in nearby Dumgoyne or Auchentoshan- samples always generously waiting for your tasting.
Hire bicycles in Balloch or Drymen and follow the beautiful routes through the Queen Elizabeth Forest or just straight from your cottage. Climb the many munroes within an hours drive from the cottage, Ben Lomond being the nearest 15 miles away. The Connich Hill at Balmaha is just as good a climb with 2 rewards - a fantastic view of Loch Lomond from the top and a welcoming pub at the bottom!
A visit to Stirling Castle is always a fun day out and the Wallace Monument too. Edinburgh has so much to offer - the castle, wonderful art galleries and museums and oddles of Scottish history! Shopping in both Edinburgh and Glasgow is always tempting as are the many top class restaurants and bars.
There is so much to see and do whilst staying at The Lorn Mill - come and see for yourselves! We are flexible with booking, minimum stay 3 nights, prices £225- £595. One dog is allowed at a rate of £10 per day. We look forward to welcoming you.
