Overview

About the property

Villa On The Hills Of Lucca, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, 1 Sofabed. Sleeps 7 People

This charming farmhouse restored in 2012, was formerly a small cloister dating back to 1700. It is located in the middle of an olive tree grove dominating the valley and the city of Lucca, which lies only 11 km from here. The owner is an interior designer, this is why interiors are refurbished with care and attention to details, using original Tuscan furniture and aiming at the perfect ease of the guests. The days in Lucca will be particularly agreeable thanks to its many attractions and points of interest: the sightseeing of the town, its unique city walls, churches, squares, museums etc. For those who love the sea, in 20 minutes you can reach the sea-side resorts of Versilia, Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi - all renowned for their huge golden shores. For mountain lovers, in only 30 minutes you can be in the Garfagnana area and walk through its ancient villages. Take a chance to visit the cities of art and the most characteristic places of Tuscany (Pisa, Firenze, Siena, Cinque Terre) that are near to Lucca and easy to reach. In case some day you do not want to go anywhere, you can enjoy the impressive terrace, which is definitely the peculiarity of this house, offering the possibility to stay outside in complete relax. A magical place surrounded by nature where everything is like it used to be – only a few ancient houses deep in the stillness of the hills and an enchanting atmosphere due to the magnificent view, outstanding during the day and lovely by night.

Beautiful Tuscan Villa!

  • 5 of 5

This villa was exactly what we were looking for-up in the beautiful hills of Tuscany, and the location was perfect--we easily took day trips to Lucca, Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre, and Volterra. There is NOTHING like walking out on the terrace after waking up in the morning-looking out over the valley and seeing Lucca in the distance, the peace and tranquility can only be described as good for the soul! The view at night comes in a close second-unbelievable!!

The drive up the winding road the first time was a bit daunting, but you get acclimated quickly, and it is well worth the location and the views.

Massimo was a great host-he helped us with reservations at Le Meriviglie on the night we arrived, a nearby restaurant where we had a great meal with the locals. He also helped us arrange beforehand for a local chef to come prepare a fantastic meal at the villa. We dined out on the terrace with wine, beautiful weather, and beautiful views as Paula brought us course after course of fantastic local cuisine. It was one of the highlights of our stay, and a night we will never forget!!

We all agreed as we were checking out that we were genuinely sad to leave this place-hopefully we will return again someday Massimo!!--thanks for everything!

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We (4 widowed ladies) spent 9 nights and 10 days at the Villa situated between the Tuscan hills with the town of Lucca below us in the distance. The villa is beautifully furnished everything immaculate and so tastefully decorated. Massimo is a gem of a host. He met us at the train station and took us grocery shopping before we picked up our car and then drove us to the villa. He organized a chef for us for 2 evenings and we had the most wonderful meal. Paulo the chef was excellent and brought us course after course of the most delicious Tuscan dishes with a different wine for each course. Massimo thank you for a wonderful vacation, we will never forget it, hopefully we will return, next time with our respective families. I did the driving and managed the mountain road without any difficulty. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Sadie. Arlington Heights Illinois U.S.A

Everything we were looking for!

  • 5 of 5

These pictures are fantastic but you really have to visit this location to experience the incredible beauty of the villa and the surrounding property. Breathtaking views and peacefulness! Our stay there last week was everything we were looking for and much more. We will be recommending this location to friends who are looking for an authentic Italian vacation in the Tuscan countryside.

Thank you Massimo! Your house was charming and exceptionally clean and your recommendations for activities in the area were greatly appreciated.

A great spot in the Tuscan hills

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this house. Our host Massimo could not have been more helpful. He met us at an easily identified landmark, which was easy to find, to take us to the house for the first time (which made it very easy while you got used to it). He gave us great advice on where to park when going to Lucca, helped us organise the best way to see the Cinque Terre, and had excellent suggestions for local restaurants and supermarkets. He was readily available to answer any queries or questions during our stay. He clearly takes his role as a host very seriously.

The house is in a stunning location with views down over Lucca. There were two sitting areas available to take full advantage of the view. The rest of the house was very well equipped even down to having a hair drier in each of the three bathrooms and a couple of English speaking TV news channels.

Our only disappointment was that we only booked the house for a week rather than two weeks, something we will have to remember for our next visit. Thank you.

Beautiful views, peace and quiet, regrettably restricted movement after dark due to dangerous road.

  • 3 of 5

Good points: weather permitting the rear verandah is superb for outdoor dining with a fantastic view overlooking Lucca. Bedroom accommodation size was good and pleasantly decorated. Upstairs bedroom windows equipped with flyscreens and shutters. The kitchen and laundry was adequate for small numbers. The water spring at the bottom of the hill was refreshing and provided many a bottle of fresh water.

The Bad: on arrival and departure luggage transfers was possible via a deteriorated steep pathway or many stairs through an adjoining private property which proved difficult. Daily movements through neighbours property felt uncomfortable and intrusive. The internal living area in the property is too small for the suggested number of people to be comfortably accommodated.

The ugly: In our opinion driving on the access road to the property after dark is not safe and prohibited our movement in the evenings. The dishwasher filter was extremely dirty and was in need of a good clean. The mould around the shower recess was given a good clean together with the tiles on the kitchen bench as they were mouldy and unhygenic. The toilet brushes require replacing.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry you are not completely happy about your holiday in my house . I am the owner, and i make this job with a great passion, and really I want all the tourists , arriving here, being happy for everything about their stayng . I am always trying to resolve their problems and I am always giving them my advicecs for their trips, restaurants, everything they need. The first day, I am using meet them at the exit of the highway so they can have an "easy arrival" without problems. I made the same with you . Several times during your stayng I came at the house, or for giving you other sheets and pillow cases (more than necessary), because your friend was a little sick, or for giving you some advices , or only for asking if you need something . You didn'write anything about this kindness, in your review, and you never said me at the moment. about your negative remarks. You had the chef at the house not 1 but 2 times (you wanted the second because you appeciate a lot the first) . You said me you were very happy about the dinners but I don't understand the reason because you didn't write anything in your review. It seems, you want put in evidence, in great part, your negative opinion. I had 67 reviews about my house ( you can read )and 78 reviews about another my house (N.67610, distant about 80 metres from this house ) . All these reviews are very good, and surely, more realistic than your. For arriving from the car to the house , you pass in front of the house of my father ( Not neighbours, it's another my house ) He is aged and doesn't ceate any problems and we have only 8 stairs to make for arriving . The living room area is a really large space. My house is a very cleaned house. In these field all the reviews are very positive. The road is the typical hill road of Tuscany, rather indeed, in great part, you can drive in doble direction .Tuscany hills are full of these roads and Tuscany Hills are full of tourists .

The city of Lucca boasts some wonderfully charming urban spaces: the most famous of these is surely the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, built on the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheatre by the architect Lorenzo Nottolini, a unique architectural marvel. The main artery running through the historic centre is the narrow Via Fillungo, a medieval street lined with the city’s most prestigious shops. Some of Lucca’s other picturesque squares include Piazza San Michele, the city’s historic fulcrum, and Piazza San Martino, the centre of religious life and the site of the renowned Duomo di San Martino. Its immense historic-monumental opulence has prompted a recent proposal to include Lucca’s historic centre – which also comprises a historic playhouse, the Teatro del Giglio - in UNESCO’s world heritage list.
