This charming farmhouse restored in 2012, was formerly a small cloister dating back to 1700. It is located in the middle of an olive tree grove dominating the valley and the city of Lucca, which lies only 11 km from here. The owner is an interior designer, this is why interiors are refurbished with care and attention to details, using original Tuscan furniture and aiming at the perfect ease of the guests. The days in Lucca will be particularly agreeable thanks to its many attractions and points of interest: the sightseeing of the town, its unique city walls, churches, squares, museums etc. For those who love the sea, in 20 minutes you can reach the sea-side resorts of Versilia, Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi - all renowned for their huge golden shores. For mountain lovers, in only 30 minutes you can be in the Garfagnana area and walk through its ancient villages. Take a chance to visit the cities of art and the most characteristic places of Tuscany (Pisa, Firenze, Siena, Cinque Terre) that are near to Lucca and easy to reach. In case some day you do not want to go anywhere, you can enjoy the impressive terrace, which is definitely the peculiarity of this house, offering the possibility to stay outside in complete relax. A magical place surrounded by nature where everything is like it used to be – only a few ancient houses deep in the stillness of the hills and an enchanting atmosphere due to the magnificent view, outstanding during the day and lovely by night.

Wonderful two month stay at Casa del Ministro!
We arrived in Lucca by train late on a Saturday afternoon to be met by our host Massimo who took us to the house in the hills, about a twenty minute drive from the old city walls. It was immediately obvious the house is accurately and honestly described on the website, everything was spotlessly clean. The house is set in an olive grove with fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys, and the city of Lucca in the distance. The three bedrooms are large and comfortable, two with ensuites and a separate bathroom on the ground floor.
Massimo helped with our large amount of luggage and gave us a clear and thorough explanation of the appliances, heating, contents and layout of the property. Due to our late arrival he had offered to shop for us and our essential groceries were on the table along with a gift of bread, pasta and wine. On Monday Massimo drove us to a supermarket in the city where he guided us through the obvious differences between shopping in Australia and Italy. He spent the entire morning pointing out landmarks, good restaurants and shops, taking us to a bank, phone shop and finally helped us collect our hire car. Without his help the start of our stay would have been much more difficult.
Massimo graciously insisted from the outset that we call him if there were any problems or needed help with anything. During our two month stay he organised a language teacher for us and a gym membership for our neice. He was interested in our family history research, helping numerous times with phone calls and translations. He visited and called us often to ensure we were comfortable and quote "living well" in his house. These contacts were always enjoyable and never intrusive.
Massimo has two other properties, one next door to ours and one close to the old city walls, which he kindly invited us to view during our stay, both are of the same high standard as the house we rented.
We are extremely grateful to Massimo for his thoughtfulness, kindness and his support throughout our stay. Massimo's house became a home away from home for our two month stay in Lucca!
Beautiful property!!!! We absolutely loved our one-week stay in Massmo‘s farm house. The house and property is so beautiful and well-maintained. The view is absolutely stunning.
Massimo is also a wonderful host. He made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed for a perfect stay. We highly recommend this property if you are looking to stay in Lucca. You will not be disappointed.
Fantastic Villa in Tuscany
Spent two weeks in this lovely place. Loved everything about it, the drive up from the bottom of the hill, the fantastic view, the warm and well appointed interior, the outside table perfect for meals and drinks. Massimo was a pleasure to meet and get to know. The feeling is remote in the lovely hills but it's very close to Lucca and Lucca is a wonderful city to visit. Don't miss renting bikes and biking the wall. Also, an easy drive or train to Florence, Pisa, Cinque a Terra and many hill towns. A great center point for a Tuscan adventure!
A truly wonderful stay
We stayed 11 amazing nights at this charming little house, and couldn't be happier with our choice. Lucca is a beautiful city to visit in its own right, and was also a great home base for exploring the area - we visited Florence, Sienna, Chianti, San Gimignano, Pisa, and Cinque Terre. (tip - the villages of the very-nearby Valle del Serchio are uncrowded and beautiful to visit!) The house was a perfect spot - up in the hills about 15 minutes north of Lucca with spectacular views down into the valley. The house has three bedrooms and is very comfortable. We stayed in the winter and caught the first snow event in the last ten years, so we couldn't enjoy the outdoor space to its full potential, but we still didn't feel too crowded. The kitchen is definitely adequate if you want to cook a bit while you're in the house (we made breakfast most mornings).
Massimo is a truly excellent host. He met us as we got into town and took us up to the house - the house isn't exactly hard to find, but it's up some typically narrow hill lanes, and we were glad not to have to navigate it alone at night. Massimo is very knowledgeable about the area - he helped us find the free lot to park in just outside the walls of Lucca, and had good advice on several of our other destinations. He's also very attentive - he was always available to answer a question, and checked in regularly to make sure everything was perfect with our stay. We did have some mechanical issues (not Massimo's fault), which he was very diligent in resolving right away. One of the best homeshare hosts we've ever stayed with!
Great house, great location, great stay, great host. Couldn't ask for better!
We loved the house! It was everything you could want for a true Tuscan experience.
An excellent experience all around. Massimo was an unbelievable host. He picked up us from the train station and took us grocery shopping. Our first night in Lucca we got lost and couldn't find where we parked our car. Massimo came and took us to our car at night! We had the chef cook for us and it was by far the best Italian meal we have ever had. Well worth the money. The property is georgous. Even in February we sat out on the terrace and enjoyed the sun. You definitely need a car and if you go in the winter be mindful of the need for heat and layering up when going out. Luca is a great city and we took side trips to Monte Carlo, Siena and Florence. Thanks Massimo for an incredible experience.
Beautiful villa and really friendly owner.
The villa really does live up to the photographs and the views are stunning. Massimo is really helpful and friendly. Its an excellent base to explore Tuscany - we would highly recommend!
The city of Lucca boasts some wonderfully charming urban spaces: the most famous of these is surely the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, built on the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheatre by the architect Lorenzo Nottolini, a unique architectural marvel. The main artery running through the historic centre is the narrow Via Fillungo, a medieval street lined with the city’s most prestigious shops. Some of Lucca’s other picturesque squares include Piazza San Michele, the city’s historic fulcrum, and Piazza San Martino, the centre of religious life and the site of the renowned Duomo di San Martino. Its immense historic-monumental opulence has prompted a recent proposal to include Lucca’s historic centre – which also comprises a historic playhouse, the Teatro del Giglio - in UNESCO’s world heritage list.
