About Sarah

Your Hosts: Jim and Debbie

Sarah purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Sarah chose Kenai Peninsula

My husband always dreamed of going to Alaska. I planned a trip to the Kenai Peninsula in August 2004. We fell in love with Alaska and the Kenai and wanted to be able to visit often. We decided to buy some property and build a log cabin on it in 2005. We plan on retiring there someday.

What makes this cabin unique

The property is surrounded by tall trees on a very quiet road. We love sitting out by the firepit and relaxing after a fantastic day of fishing the Kenai River. We often see moose wondering thru the property. We especially enjoy the long summer nights of the midnight sun!

Comfortable cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our party of six fit perfectly in the two bedrooms and loft. One couple was enchanted by the king size bed in the closet -- they wanted darkness, which is hard to find in the summer. Everything was tidy for our arrival and the property manager met us to introduce the house rules. Our fishermen agree with other reviews, the fish cleaning space, vacuum sealer and freezer were great. Our family enjoyed the large timber table for dinner & euchre, and the horseshoes. Don't try to bring a fancy sedan! Although it's a nicely developed neighborhood, there were deep pockets in the gravel road (I estimate 1/2 mile). Our GMC Acadia had no trouble at all. Madi the friendly retriever also visited whenever she was out and about.

Best rental on the Kenai

  • 5 of 5

Bear Paw exceeded our expectations. This log home is quite spacious and immaculate. We were a party of 4 fishermen, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The kitchen is very well supplied, and all the furnishings were comfortable and in good shape. The Wifi worked well, and the cell phone reception is good. There are neighbors close by, but we were separated by a mini forest of mature trees. You cannot see or hear the neighbors from the front porch. It's almost like being alone in the woods (except for the frequent visits of Matty, the super friendly Labrador retriever). Bear Paw will certainly be my first choice the next time I visit the Kenai.

Great Location for fishing trip

  • 4 of 5

We had a very nice experience at the Bear Paw cabin. The house had everything we needed including a freezer for our fish. We really enjoyed the fire pit as well. The caretakers were friendly but left us to our privacy as well. The location was the best part. During the six days we stayed, we had charters out of Seward, Deep Creek beach launch, and a Kasilof river drift boat charter. In addition, we fished for reds at the Russian, and Kenai and Kings at Kasilof, Deep Creek and Anchor River. Everything was in an easy drive of the cabin. Even the Seward Charter was not difficult and only took about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get there. If you are heading to the area for the world class fishing, this cabin puts you right in the middle of the action with lots of options around you to optimize and coordinate your time with the fish runs. I would highly recommend.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Bear Paw was a perfect location. The cabin is in a "neighborhood", but you can not tell you have neighbors. There are great hiking trails, yummy restaurants, and good places for groceries and shopping. Other Alaska tourist towns are only a day trip away. The beautiful Kenaii River is close by. The cabin itself was cozy, clean, and well stocked. The large timber kitchen table drew the family together for card and board games, and meals prepared in the large kitchen. The dorm style loft was the favorite of our three grandsons. Our family is already planning a trip here during the summer months. Fishing poles will be the first things to get packed!
