Our studio and an apartment, each for 2 people, are comfortable, safe and fully furnished and equipped for longer stays, from where you can easily move around and discover the country.
Enjoy our comfortable hospitality and feel "at home away from home".
Your hosts Anne and Adrian are fluent in Spanish, Dutch, English, French, German and Italian.

We are ideally located for easy day trips to a variety of national parks, rain forests, volcanoes, coffee plantations, butterfly and orchids gardens, etc.
Activities such as zip-line canopy tours, bird watching, horseback riding, golfing, hiking, nature walks, white water rafting, etc. are possible within one hour's drive.

Within a few blocks from here you'll find bus routes, banks, ATM's, churches, schools, shops (pulperia), travel agency, restaurants, Saturday's "feria del agricultor" (fruit and vegetable market), clinic, dentists, physicians, language school. Larger supermarkets and shopping malls are located in the vicinity.
We can provide airport transfer (20 mins. drive) upon request.

Santo Domingo de Heredia is one of the nicer residential towns in Costa Rica. Situated only 12 km north of San Jose, 6 km east of Heredia (the provincial capital) and a short drive from San Jose International airport (SJO), it is surrounded by coffee plantations, and its main inhabitants stem from the original planters' families.
Houses have well maintained exteriors, splendidly kept interiors and luxurious gardens, particularly behind many original adobe dwellings, such as ours.

Your hosts Anne and Adrian live adjacent to these independent units in their more than 150-year old Adobe house. We speak Spanish, Dutch, English, French, German and Italian and want to make sure that you feel comfortable.

Year Purchased: 2001

About the owner: Coming from Switzerland and after having lived in various European and Middle Eastern countries, always active in the hospitality industry. (multinational hotel corporations) we, Adrian ( 78) and Anne (74), retired to Costa Rica in 1996. We had already visited Costa Rica previously for several years, speak the language and like its friendly people and excellent year 'round climate. Adrian was born in Holland, went to college in Belgium, hotel school in Switzerland and worked himself up from dishwasher to hospitality consultant for multinational hotel corporations. Anne was born in Great Britain and worked in tourism, ran own activities in Switzerland and Costa Rica and dedicates most of her time to social services. (Women's Club of Costa Rica)

Why the Owner Chose Cartago, Costa Rica:
After having lived several years in Santo Domingo de Heredia, we purchased our present, over 150-year old, adobe house because we liked the style, size and its central location in this town which has a pleasant year 'round climate, a decently organized municipality and pleasant town people. We added an apartment, and later a studio, for friends and family who intended to visit us, not really planning vacation rentals. Acquaintances suggested to offer these two units available to a wider public. So far this has worked out rather well for both our guests and ourselves.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
We're near the center of town, with most important facilities in walking distance. It's a quiet and safe town, with a year 'round pleasant climate, clean air and nice people in our neighborhood. From here it's easy to move around the country: Caribbean and Pacific coasts, national parks, volcanoes, etc. Bus services in Costa Rica are excellent, so that a rental car is often not necessary. We've always tried to be outgoing hosts towards travelers and our experience with guests has been most positive: several have become true friends.
