No smoking inside the house. Cigarettes, pipes & cigars are permitted on the screened-in porch or on the kitchen decks. Handicapped accessible only by arrangement & only on the first floor.

A Lovely Place to get Married: Sunny Slope Farm has seen many a family wedding throughout its long life, and the tradition continues.

There have been small Spring weddings held in the library & large Summer & Autumn weddings held in the fields or on the lawn. In 2006 alone there were 2 weddings in the barn, with the doors thrown wide to views of the hayfield & the apple tree. Last June there was a wedding held in the upper field, with a reception in a tent in the hayfield under a full moon, & during the last three Augusts, weddings with tents & string bands set up on the front lawn.

We do not do wedding planning for you, but we are glad to pass along the information about rentals, caterers, etc, that other couples used.

There is a small extra charge (please see Rates Section) for a wedding or reception held at Sunny Slope Farm, but the folks who've gotten married here have found it much more convenient & less expensive to get married in the place they're staying for a few days (either before, after or both!).

Guestbook comments from the owner

From the very bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! And Thank YOU, Max! For allowing Brendan and I to have our wedding here [at Sunny Slope Farm]. Our friends and family had the most wonderful time! We absolutely love this house, barn, land...everything about it. We cannot wait to come back!

Looking back and reflecting, there isn't one single thing we would change about our day. And honestly, getting married here with such a feeling of strong love, support, and history... You allowing us to stay here granted us the wedding that far surpassed even hope and dream. We love you and Sunny Slope so much! If you ever find objects placed in the shape of a Mickey Mouse you'll know we've come by!

Thank you! So Much! To Infinity & Beyond!

Love, Brendan & Amanda

Built in 1810, Sunny Slope Farm is our family farm, filled with memories, albums, history and lots of bedrooms: 1 king, 1 queen, 1 double, 1 full, 7 twins (3 of these are trundles, one of which is in the upstairs sitting room; two plus a regular twin are in the 'game room'); 1 sleep sofa in the library. There is also a crib (& gates for the tops of both sets of stairs), and a couple of blow-up mattresses if needed. Fine bedding, lots of comfortable furniture, with space to spread out: watch a DVD with friends or read a book by the fire while the kids watch a video or play games upstairs in the 'game room'; take a long walk, sit by the pond, pick an apple or sit out around the fire ring in the evening; drink the purest water in the state of NH straight out of the faucet; lounge on the deck by the outdoor fireplace and enjoy the views of the orchard from the hot tub.

Beautiful property but not fit for weddings

  • 1 of 5

The farm is beautiful and picturesque, but if I could do it again I would have chosen a different venue.

It stormed the night before our wedding and the roof of the barn leaked heavily on several tables. We had to scramble to replace the linens the night before the wedding. It caused a great deal of stress.

We paid extra to have an additional day of setup and most of the day was spent cleaning up broken glass, beer caps, dirt, and debris left from other weddings.

Members of our wedding party drove an hour home instead of staying as they intended because several of the rooms in the house smelled very dusty and smelled of stale urine.

When the cost of renting tables, chairs, heaters, and bathrooms are factored in, we spent several thousands more than we had originally anticipated. I didn't feel the fees associated with the venue compensated for the number of things it lacked.

I had a beautiful and memorable wedding and the owners are nice people, but I wouldn't choose it again.

Owner's Response: I'm sad the guest is upset. I tried to balance her request we refund her fees with the fact that, due to the condition in which they left SSF, 50% of the sec. deposits would usually be forfeited as per the lease's stipulation that the house be left in "the same good & habitable condition" in which they found it. As it was, I refunded all of their sec. dep's. They were upset that Max (nephew) wasn't there to assist until later than expected, but, happily, Toby was there to help & guide them for many hours, including use of our equipment. They went into barn rafters, strung cable across the barn, rigged tapestries, moved timbers I think it was actually a day well spent. Toby asked the groom & crew many times if there were anything more he could do before he left & they said they were now "way ahead" & happy. Toby still left his cell# for them if they needed "anything at all", promising that he could be back again immediately. I sent the couple an explanation of how our crew worked for them, inside & out, including after the guests left early. Our fees are a reflection of our expenses, including labor, utilities & ins.; my time & support over the months leading up to the wedding is always gratis. Max was able to be there during the rain storm & was able, with one of their guests, to keep track of the rain & contain it before any damage was done. The roof will be repaired this spring ~ but, until then, Max’s awareness of its condition makes him extra careful about monitoring & containing any drips that might make it through. I’m so sorry if this caused the bride any undue stress. Our cleaning crew were surprised by the upsetting news that "members of the wedding party drove home". We do a thorough cleaning between guests & we steam clean rugs on a regular basis. I do wish they had mentioned this to us at the time & told us which room had the problem. Happily, judging by how many beds were used, the rest of their guests were more comfortable. "The cost of renting tables....” DIY at Sunny Slope is what allows us to keep costs low, esp'ly considering all we do provide, for weddings & the comfort of your visit. The couple weren’t interested in using our (free) farm tables. The heater was their choice for peace of mind in NH. Weddings can be expensive, you pay for extra things, but each is up to you; we have few requirements. We try to keep our prices low so folks can afford to get married as well as stay at our wonderful old farm! Deanna

Best family vacation & wedding spot

  • 5 of 5

I am the actual tenant that stayed during the time of the one star review September - October 2015, we had our daughters wedding and stayed a week to be with family and friends. I can not say enough great things about Sunny Slope, the owner and her employees were a joy. My kids are still begging to go back. It's a large old farm house with all the New England charm you could ask for. The owner asks that you strip the beds when you leave and toss the linens in the basement by the washer dryer. The property is beautiful and we will definitely be back.

Sunny Slope

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I recently spent a few days staying at sunny slope farm and it was amazing! The house was spacious, clean, and spectacular. The house was loaded with everything we needed and the backyard was beautiful. Deanna was very welcoming and immediately felt like family. The house has many wonderful features, the dining room was large and fit us and our friends perfectly, the library was loaded with interesting books and was perfect for relaxing, the gameroom had tons of stuff for every age and the jacuzzi was a nice hit. The house and Deanna definitely did not disappoint. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone for any occasion. Thanks Deanna for the fantastic stay!

Deanna: Our stay at Sunny...

Deanna: Our stay at Sunny Slope Farm this June was sheer delight. As you know, all of the guests were in NH for a wedding in Dover. The farm became not simply a place to stay, but a wonderful place to congregate and relax. Even the bride and groom took time from their busy schedule to visit with us for a day. Sunny Slope will be a part of the wedding memories. The farm is magnificently equipped for any season, it feels like "home" from the moment you step in, and your personal hospitality and support were simply the best.We would love to return again, including the members of our family who were unable to make the first trip. Many thanks, and we hope to see you again soon!Wayne

Sunny Slope

We loved staying at Sunny Slope Farm!

It has everything we could possibly need. We had 7 adults and 1 child (3 years old) and we had so much space. We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace at night in the library playing boardgames, making breakfast and all of us eating around the large living room table, relaxing in the hot tub, reading on the screened in porch, playing croquet on the huge lawns, etc, etc...

A couple things to note:

1. There are only 2 bathrooms (and only one with a tub) but we didn't have any trouble with that (but may have if we had more people).

2. If you have very young children you should be careful because there are 2 sets of steep stairs and lots of stuff they could get into. But the owners do have a child gate there to use and you can limit access to the second stairs. If worked out just fine for us with our little one.

The house is beautiful (even better than the pictures). We loved it!! And we will definitely return!
