Wilderness Retreat is only 2.5 miles from the parkway but you'll feel like you've escaped to the heart of the Smokies. Convenient to both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, this tri-level cabin is beautifully constructed and maintained. Wilderness Retreat was recently updated with all new luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout.
Due to the many requests we've had for pet friendly accommodations, Wilderness Retreat now accepts well-behaved, housebroken dogs up to 35 lbs. Pets must be crated or confined to a travel pen while you're away from the cabin. Wilderness Retreat is on a mostly level, dead-end street so taking your dog for a walk is no problem. Pet stays are $95/dog plus tax. If you have more than one dog, just provide us some details about your pets and we'll see if we can accommodate both of them.
This cabin offers a nice degree of privacy for all 6 guests. The sleeper sofa is on the main floor in the living room, while the two king master suites are found on each of the lower levels. There's a half bath on the main floor and then a full standard tub/shower bathroom in each master. The middle floor bedroom also has a laundry area with full size washer and dryer. Each king bedroom features a 32" flat screen TV with standard Dish Network satellite TV programming. Each king suite has access to its own deck that looks out to the mountains. The new 5 person hot tub is on the lowest deck while the middle deck features a swing.
If you've come to the mountains to relax, you'll find it hard to not like the generously sized recliners on the main floor. Watch your favorite sports or TV programs on the large flat screen TV--also with Dish Network service. Or rent a DVD movie from any nearby Red Box kiosks and have movie night at the cabin. The gas fireplace is available from Oct. 1-March 31. There's nothing quite like a fire in the cooler months at a cabin in the Smokies and with the convenience of a 1 hour timer, there's no fuss or worry.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT INTERNET: Cable is not available on the mountain, so the next best option is a Verizon MiFi hotspot. Unlike cable, Verizon doesn't have unlimited bandwidth packages. We provide each guest stay with 2GB of bandwidth. If you're just browsing web pages and checking emails, you should be fine. But if you want to watch Netflix, YouTube or any live streaming or downloads, you'll gobble up that 2GB in a day or two. We don't want you to have to pay the overage fees ($15/GB) so please consider your internet usage and needs before booking. If you need unlimited bandwidth, let us know and we'll provide you with a list of our cabins that have Xfinity or Charter cable service.
The kitchen is compact but very well equipped. Everything you need for quick meals or a full-on BBQ is available. Coffee maker, dishes, quality cookware, ice maker, crock pot, toaster and more are on hand. The new dining table seats 6.
While many cabins are cramped along roadsides with neighboring cabins and cars right next door, Wilderness Retreat has only one cabin nearby--and it's moderately obscured by trees most of the year. When you look out from the deck, you'll enjoy a beautiful wooded view with mountains in the distance to the right. In the winter months, the view opens up even more once the leaves are down.
Another huge plus is the flat parking right next to the cabin. There's plenty of room for 2 cars and even a third if need be. You'll have good security lighting, too.
We're frequently asked if 4WD vehicles are needed to get to Wilderness Retreat. The simple answer is no. The roads going up to the cabin are paved and in good condition. But in the coldest months (usually January and February) there's always a risk for snow and ice, though our area is not known for big snows or extended periods below freezing. If you plan to come that time of year please consider your vehicle's capabilities. We strongly recommend that you consider trip cancellation insurance in the event that bad weather impedes your travel from or to your destination.
