What a wonderful vacation home!
It was fully stocked with kitchenware, linens, and towels. The decor was exquisite with many ocean themes. It was clean and bright! A haven in the country, but close to friendly neighbors and Ogunquit Center. John, the owner, was friendly and accommodating. When the ceiling fan's motor malfunctioned, John came with two fans. He replaced the ceiling fan with a new one within a week's time. He's a great guy!
The scenery around the cottage is peaceful and serene. It has a true country atmosphere, but near all the hustle and bustle of route 1.
The laundry room at the back was ideal. All the clothes were cleaned for the return trip home. I can't say enough about this beautiful place! If you're looking to get away from the stress of daily living, this is the place! It has a lovely screened in porch for dining as well as a back deck with a grill. Come, take in the country air. Enjoy nature at its best.
It's a winner! I came away with many wonderful memories. This country home will always be dear to my heart with hopes of visiting again. Thanks, John for sharing your beautiful place. You're like family!
We loved the house. It felt like a real home, not just a rental property. It was in a wooded area in a quiet neighborhood. It was a short walk to the beach & the center of town. The owner was very accomdating. We would definitely stay there again.
Great property and location.
This was a very nice cottage, a short walk from town. The space is light and open, making for a great place for our family to gather (my wife and I invited our 2 daughters and their husbands to stay the weekend with us). The kitchen has nice dishes but older utensils. We were confused as to how to use the Bunn Coffee-maker, so ruined a couple of pots before we got it right (instructions could help). We would definitely look forward to staying here again in the future should our travels bring us this way!
Quiet Cottage in the Woods a Half Mile from Ogunquit Center.
The cottage was a nice escape from the busy center of town. It is in a wooded neighborhood so there is privacy. It is on a quiet dead end street a half mile from the center of town. We walked into town for dinner and to the main beach. Its about a mile from the dog park. The cottage has comfortable furniture and beds. The room shown on the listing with two twin beds has been changed. It now has a bunk bed with a full size bed on the bottom and a twin on top. The other bedroom on the first floor has a queen as does the bedroom upstairs, which also has a sliding door to a small elevated deck. The cottage was very bright and nicely decorated. There was plenty of parking. We sat out on the open front deck one night while looking at the stars and were not bothered by bugs which was nice.
The kitchen was small but well stocked with dishes, glasses, cooking gadgets, etc. The cottage could use new frying pans. One is missing a handle and the other large one is a badly scratched non-stick pan that doesn't sit flat. The coffee maker is confusing (it seems to be a commercial model). The wifi was very good. The water pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water. Having two bathrooms was convenient. There is a washer and dryer in the shed attached to the back of the cottage. The bath towels were thin and looked dingy which was disappointing. The sheets were good though.
There were beach towels in a basket in the cottage and there were some beach chairs, an umbrella, a Boogey Board and some sand toys in the detached shed. I don't know how functional these things were since we didn't use them (we brought our own).
One other issue was that when we first got there it smelled of garbage inside but the waste basket was empty and had a clean bag in it. After awhile I realized that the small pail for recycling in the kitchen closet had a lot of dried residue in it, likely from people not rinsing items before throwing them in. I used hot water and a liquid cleaner that was under the sink and got the smell out (I drew the line at scrubbing it though). I was a bit annoyed that whoever cleaned the cottage before our arrival hadn't dealt with the obvious odor.
I would have given the cottage 5 stars if the towels were nicer, the frying pans were in better condition and if the cottage didn't smell when we arrived. I did not complain to the owner about these issues while we were there so I cannot comment on his responsiveness
I was not aware of the broken frying but I will purchase several new ones this week. The towels are the same as what I use at home but I will look for a higher quality towel and replace those. I will ask the cleaning company to rinse the recycle bins between guests. Great feedback, thank you.
My family had a great week in this cozy, clean house! Lots of options for eating inside or out! Loved the extra beach chairs and boogie boards for the kids. It is a bit of a walk to the beach coming home up hill, but we worked that out by one of us walking back to the house and getting the car to pick everyone up. Loading areas at the beach made this easy with all our gear!
Lovely cottage; great town....fun for us and for our eight year old. Walk down a moderate hill to get into town/beach; decent restaurants.
Short walk to town center, beaches, trolley, restaurants, movie theater and shopping as well as two museums in Town. Next Town over has a amusement park in York and the only outside bowling alley!
