About Tracey J
Francisco moved down to southern Spain after serving in the Spanish military to start his own construction business. Starting out doing his apprenticeship as a plumber, then learning to be an electrician, before moving on, constantly augmenting his abilities in this profession, which clearly stood him in good stead when he & Tracey converted the old stables - doing all the work themselves. Sports bikes 'were' his passion, having built his first ever motorbike from scrap parts when he was only 14 years-old and gone on to tour most of Spain at great speed in his spare time! Tracey, although horses had been a life-long hobby, made her way in the catering industry as a restaurant owner, before moving to Spain in the late 1990´s with her then young daughter, where a few years later she met Francisco - the other half of her orange, as they say here! Having expanded her equine hobby to become a small business, Francisco soon learnt to ride a horse, instead of a metal steed, would be the way to her heart and they have trekked many trails together since ;) Both love the outdoor life, competing in Endurance riding whenever they can. Francisco makes a mean paella (no really, we aren´t biased!) and Tracey´s homemade bread barely makes it from the oven to the table. They are busy, and you will see them around as they tend to their animals, but they wont be in your way - unless you need them. They love nothing more than a great BBQ when all the family is together, Tracey´s daughter and Francisco´s two sons and some good friends for company. Obviously fluent in Spanish and English you can be assured they will help with any problems you may have and resolve anything within their power to assure your holiday is the best ever.

If you want Rural - this delivers in spades
If you want rural - away from the hustle and bustle - then this is the one. A 1 mile drive off the beaten track down a road / trail and then you are there, with stunning views up to Casares. This is a working farm / horse business, so there are the occasional people passing through the garden to the upper paddock. However saying that, we had no issues at all with the owners or staff, hell I even sat down with Francisco for a beer or 2 (the poor bloke works tooooo much). I took 3 springer spaniels with me, plenty of nice walks for them outside of the warmer periods of the day with a little river / stream nearby for them to cool down in. Only a few minutes drive to Casares (and not too far to walk either) or a 15 minute drive to the coast and the hustle and bustle that it offers. Some superb restaurants within a 15 to 20 minute drive. Accommodation was good and fit for purpose, it had air con, but could perhaps have done with an aircon unit in the bedroom, but that's perhaps me being picky, especially as the temps were hitting the high 30's every day. Leaving the bedroom door open may have helped, however I don't allow my dogs in the bedroom, so probably an easy fix if I hadn't taken them with me. Owners were available if needed, however were at no point intrusive - which is a must for a relaxing holiday. In short an ideal location if you want peace and quiet or don't mind a short drive to the coast and all it has to offer. Would happily return again with or without the dogs.
When we knew this couple had "crazy" Spaniels, we can not deny we were a little worried for our cottage! Oh yes, those dogs were full of energy, but so where this lovely couple assuring they were well exercised every day and the cottage was left just spotless.
Sorry about the Air Con, it is more than efficient with the bedroom door open - we didn't allow for the eventuality of it being kept closed (but this is again, another testimony to how well Paul and Karen respected the property).
Francisco appreciated the beer, but hey, I work too ;)
We do our best to stay out of the way of guests, but indeed are there when called upon. It is so lovely to have this noted. Thank you.
We are both very happy you enjoyed our little piece of paradise and again, thank you, for the wonderful feedback.
We really enjoyed our stay, warm, Cousy cottage, where there is peace and quiet. Could hear the birds singing..
Thank you so much for the review. It is good to hear when people have enjoyed their stay, and you were a charming couple who I would recommend to any other rental properties.
We seem blessed with wonderful people coming to enjoy our cottages. Peter and his wife were no different, a lovely couple who left everything as clean and tidy as they found it. Hopefully "next time" they will be able to stay longer!
Ideal location for peaceful holiday in Andalucia
Ideal cottage with modern kitchen and bathroom facilities. There is an excellent heating system (it was cold at night in March). It has a good wi-fi connection. Good sized, very comfortable bed. Perfect for a few days peace and quiet in the middle of the countryside yet within a short drive of the delightful village of Casares. Our hosts were unobtrusive, but available if we needed anything. An excellent base for exploring this region of Spain.
Stunning country retreat
We were very impressed with the cottage/apartment it was nicely furnished and very comfortable, fully equipped kitchen with induction hob, microwave and fridge/freezer. Comfortable bed and blissful power shower with different settings, only bad point it was so powerful it splashed out at the end onto bathroom floor, but I told the owners and they were going to reduce pressure slightly. The views are wonderful, Tracey has some beautiful horses and does trekking for experienced riders (not me I am afraid, too old and unfit as I found on the hills in some of the the beautiful white villages). At this time of year (March) everything was beautiful and green with lots of lovely flora and fauna to be seen, had some lovely meals especially at Toni's bar in Estepona. The lovely painting you can see in the picture was done by Tracey herself and I think it and there is another one both capture the spirit of the horses. Great for couples or two friends who want to go to horsey heaven.
Such a pleasure having guests who appreciate the quality of the facilities and the surrounding countryside. There are few places like ours left on the Costa Del Sol - Left to nature and her secrets and surprises, whilst still benefitting from all the coast has to offer should one desire it.
WALKING & NATURE/BIRD WATCHING.
This part of Andalucia has a wealth of wildlife from tiny voles and bee-eaters to Mongoose, Bonelli’s Eagle and giant Griffon vultures. It is an ornithologists paradise, but also greatly enjoyed by the keen amateur as the abundance of fauna doesn´t need a knowledgeable eye to be appreciated. There are many official mapped routes in the area from the short easy stroll to the serious hike.
From the expert to the weekend dabbler you are sure to find the perfect scene to capture. You don´t even need to leave the comfort of your patio at The Stables to find beautiful scenery.
The experienced competent rider can trek through beautiful forests, seeing Andalucia as few rarely do. Organised by prior arrangement with the owners of the cottages, these routes are either 3 hours or all day, in which case lunch is also provided. Long comfortable leg wear and long sleeves are recommended. You will ride trails unaccessible by vehicle and, depending on the time of year, see flora and fauna that many don´t know exists in this part of Spain. Contact The Stables for more details. (max. rider weight 90kgs)
Whichever direction you drive from The Stables you come across a golf course within a short distance. The Volvo Masters championship course at Finca Cortesin is only 10 minutes away and one of around 70 quality courses along the coast. Thanks to the temperate climate the sport can be played all year round.
Casares is blessed with a number of high quality restaurants to really tickle your taste buds. All these listed below are personally recommended by the owners of The Stables. The discerning palette is spoilt for choice.
Where Asian meets Mediterranean in a perfect fusion. Arroyo Hondo Closed Mondays and reservations recommended.
A twist on the traditional. El Forjador As with all these restaurants it is recommended you telephone your reservation.
The area also benefits from quality traditional 'ventas' where you can experience real Spanish cuisine. For fabulous b-b-q meat, Venta Cozar. Renowned for it´s country dishes, Venta Victoria. For up-market mediterranean, Venta Garcia. Not forgetting the bars and restaurants within the village of Casares itself.
Not a street light in sight, or a looming mountain overhead, it is the perfect setting to view the stars at night.
For the more adventurous, BIKE HIRE can be arranged for you prior to your arrival, in order to explore the many country trails in the area.
