On the ground floor you will find a large living room with functional wood-burning fireplace, a balcony, a veranda with French billiards, a dining room, a fully equipped kitchen (gas hobs, oven, fridge with freezer, dishwasher, washing machine), a toilet and a functional bathroom with bathtub.

Upstairs, 3 bedrooms with 2 double beds (140x190), 2 single beds (90x190) and a cot, a bathroom with shower.

Outside: nice garden furniture, lawn, private garage, downhill garage can park 3 vehicles

A service of choice, on arrival the beds are made, towels are provided, heating including wood for the fireplace, water and gas are included in the initial price.

A balanced review, although you might not think so

It's not all bad. The location is ideal; a 10' walk past the marina takes you into town and the little railway is a pleasant distraction as it tootles past the back of the house. Accepting pets is a bonus. Parking is an undoubted advantage in a town with only 'payant' places. The kitchen is a brand new ex-Ikea display that's not quite fitted, as if it matters in a holiday gite. Anyway, it is all well equipped (including an electric kettle in response to a previous reviewer's request). All was very clean - as it should be for a housekeeping charge that is a little heavy.

However, the house itself is generally tired and neglected. Broken door handles, a leaking roof in the billiard room, an upstairs toilet that runs constantly and a garden that is overgrown and covered in nettles is not how it is described. Certain facilities are exaggerated or don't exist: the BBQ is unused for years and covered in greenery; we saw no evidence of the bicycles. Perhaps they were in the garage, but as the outer doors were locked and access was down an unlit staircase and through a basement littered with rubbish, we decided not to investigate. There is a DVD player as described, but as the TV is in another room, what is the point? The bedrooms and shower room are all squeezed into the roof space and if you are over 140cm you'll have a sore head with banging against protruding beams and shelves, some with nails standing out

(however, if you are under 140cm , you will not be able to reach the top cupboards in the kitchen!).

M Deschamp does his best to provide customer service support, but this is at the end of a phone as he lives in Marseilles. His local back-up - his daughters - undoubtedly have other priorities. We were assured that a high chair would be provided when we booked three months ago. It took numerous voicemails and texts and two days to arrive. Never at any point did they call us back.

PARTICULAR WARNINGS FOR PARENTS OR CARERS OF SMALL CHILDREN OR ANIMALS: the staircase is an accident waiting to happen with a glass door at the bottom; there is an unprotected drop of up to 2m from the garden to the driveway; the garden is covered in nettles and sharp thorn bushes.

You may think otherwise, but I have tried my best to be objective and balanced in this review.

The gite was very well suited to our plans for holiday, we had a wonderful stay in this charming cosy and well located house. A short walk into St Valery, but with its own off street parking, the gite was an ideal base for multiple activities that we had planned including sight seeing, time on the beach of which there are many, only a short drive away and riding on the steam railway.

Central location, close to town with own good parking.

Spent a very enjoyable week here. Owner most helpful and any queries sorted quickly. The house looks out onto the little steam railway tracks which was charming to watch and is a very short walk into town centre. Bonus of having an open wood burning fireplace made the evenings very cosy (although central heating made the whole house very warm too). Overall the property very well equipped for families and a provision of a cot and stair gate was made available for our 18month granddaughter (I forgot to ask for baby high hair but owner would have provided that too) so everything handy. Perhaps an electric kettle could be a good addition, especially for the English and their cups of tea!! Also for children under 3 a need to be vigilant and watched carefully as steps and some easily reached knobs and buttons could be tricky, but as a family we would certainly recommend the property, the helpful owner, and would certainly book again when next visiting the area. Lovely place.

Maison très bien située, centre-ville à pied, Intermarché à 3 minutes en voiture. Confortable et bien équipée, bonne literie. Et l'avantage de pouvoir garer plusieurs voitures sur le terrain ou dans le garage, sinon parkings payants alentour.

La maison pourrait toutefois être "rafraichie", en particulier la salle de bains du rez-de-chaussée.

Nous avons passés une agréable semaine à St Valéry. Accueil chaleureux personne très disponible pour répondre à nos questions. La maison est très bien équipée et propre. Le jardin idéal avec notre chien et un temps magnifique pour profiter de la terrasse. Le garage un plus car stationnement payant partout. Le seul petit reproche la TV ce serai plus reposant après de longues promenades de la regarder dans un fauteuil au salon. La maison est très bien située rue calme et proche du port et des commerces. C'est agréable de finir la journée sur le port qui est à deux pas. Il y a aussi de belles ballades à faire en mer avec le bateau CHARCOT surtout le soir de splendides coucher de soleil et aussi la train de la baie de somme, sans oublier les restaurants notamment LE DRAKKAR. En résumer tout est réunit pour passer de bons et agréables moments à St Valéry. C'est pourquoi nous recommandons cette maison et nous y reviendrons un jour c'est sûr!!!! Nous présentons nos meilleurs voeux à Mr DESCHAMPS !!!! Et peut-être à bientôt!!!

Maison bien située dans agréable petit port mais maison très mal entretenue : chasse d'eau défectueuse portes difficiles à ouvrir fuite d'eau dans la salle du billard ..
